Base Game & Features
Crazy Crops is the latest Medium Volatility release from upcoming software developer, Slotmill. The game consists of 5 reels, 4 rows, and 20 fixed pay lines.
Wins are harvested when 3, 4, or 5 identical symbols land on (adjacent) reels 1-5, starting from the leftmost reel. Each high-paying symbol represents a root vegetable, including pumpkins, tomatoes, broccoli, onions, and aubergines. Alternatively, low-paying symbols are available in A, K, & J card suits.
Each winning combination awards a fixed payout between 0.4x and 12x your bet, where applicable. In this section of the review, you can find out about Stacked Symbols, Respins, Bonus Buy, and Burst Mode functions.
Stacked Symbols
In the base game, high-paying (vegetable) symbols may appear stacked on reel 1. However, if a stacked, high-paying symbol is only partially visible, it may nudge down until fully present on the reel.
In Free Spins, stacked symbols will always nudge down until fully visible on the reels. Stacked symbols count as 4 singular symbols of that type, which triggers the Respin Feature.
Respin Feature
Once the Respin Feature is active, the reels can only reveal the same high-paying (vegetable) symbol as the current stacked symbol on reel 1. The feature begins with 3 Lives, which reset each time a new symbol appears in view.
The special Scatter Pay Meter next to the grid will progress based on the number of high-paying symbols collected at this time. At the end of the feature, the total number of locked high-paying symbols (including those from reel 1) determines the total win amount, multiplied by your bet.
In addition, special Modifier symbols are available during this time and can reward the following outcomes:

Crazy Crops Free Spins
Triggering the Free Spins mode requires 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols to land in the base game, awarding 8, 12, and 16 Free Spins, respectively.
During this round, partially visible stacked symbols are guaranteed to nudge down in order to trigger the Respin Feature. The first Respin will always reveal the lowest-paying vegetable symbol.
Once the Respin Feature is complete, the next highest-paying vegetable symbol is awarded as the stacked symbol on reel 1. This feature continues to climb through the high-paying symbols for the remainder of the feature.
Finally, landing up to 3 Scatters awards an additional +5 Free Spins, respectively.
Our Honest Verdict
Crazy Crops by Slotmill has a feel-good nature that makes you want to get up and plant some stuff in the garden. Of course, growing healthy and usable crops is a lot more complex than just chucking a few seeds in the ground, but you get the gist of it.
In true Slotmill fashion, we’re once again enamoured by the stunning visuals, high-quality graphics, and catchy sound effects. The vibrant colours of paytable symbols pop on the reels, whilst the backdrop expands upon the blissful farming scene.
In the base game, our main focus is the Stacked Symbols and achieving the Scatter Pay Meter prizes. Stacked symbols play a vital role in triggering the Respin Feature, allowing players to benefit from the available prizes.
This type of feature is very indicative of Push Gaming’s 10 Swords, only it requires a little more ‘ooomph’ to get it going. That’s not necessarily a bad thing either, in our opinion – the outcome is far more engaging, and the payouts are plentiful.
What’s interesting during Free Spins is that a process of elimination takes place among the high-paying symbols. Each time the Respin feature triggers, it wipes out the lowest-paying (vegetable) symbol so that the next available symbol takes its place.
This guarantees that higher payouts are unlocked each time the Respin feature triggers. Sadly, we were unable to hit 20 high-paying symbols during testing, but we certainly don’t doubt the game’s capabilities.
