Gold Diggin’ Gus first graced our screens in 2020 and since then has gone on to appear in Gold Digger Megaways and Gold Digger Mines, which were both released this year. Christmas Gold Digger Base Game and Features

Christmas Gold Digger is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol types land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available to players is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€200 per spin, with plenty of other betting options in between the two. Looking at statistics, Christmas Gold Digger has a theoretical RTP of 96.00%.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Christmas Gold Digger is Gus himself, followed by the Mining Cart, Lantern and Pickaxe. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen and Jack. There is also a Wild symbol present which subsitutes for all other symbols except Gold Nuggets and Booster Gems. 

Gold Digger Modifiers

During any random spin in the base game, Gold Diggin’ Gus can lend a hand finding those winnings by activating 1 of 3 Gold Digger Modifiers.

• Dynamite Modifier – Transforms between 3 and 5 random symbols into Wilds.
• Pickaxe Modifier – Can transform random symbols into Gold Nuggets.
• TNT Modifier – When active, Gus will push on the TNT Detonator which triggers an Explosion, upgrading random symbols.

Christmas Gold Digger: Gold Hold & Win Respins

Landing 5 or more Gold Nuggets across the reels triggers the Gold Hold & Win Respins round, awarding 3 Respins. Each Gold Nugget will appear with a Cash value attached to them.

During the Hold & Win Respins round, landing additional Golden Nuggets or any of the 4 Boosters, will reset the Respins meter to 3. All additional Golden Nuggets will become sticky and will remain in their position until the end of the Respins round. All Booster symbols that land will also be removed from the grid, making room for more Golden Nuggets.

Reel Boosters

Reel Boosters in the form of coloured Gems can appear during the Hold & Win Respins round. There are a total of 4 Reel Boosters available and collecting 3 of a certain colour will award one of the following Boosters.

• Reel Booster – Opens up an extra Row, up to a maximum of 3.
• Value Booster – Increases all Gold Nugget values that are sticky.
• Spins Booster – Adds an extra Respin onto the Respins Meter.
• Multiplier Booster – Increases the Multiplier Level. 

Christmas Gold Digger: Our Verdict

It’s nice to see Gold Diggin’ Gus back to his usual tricks and even nicer in a Christmassy theme, but does Christmas Gold Digger live up to our expectations?

You would probably agree that Christmas Gold Digger is a step down from the likes of Gold Digger Megaways with slightly less features and no Jackpot Prizes available, but given how well iSoftBet has pulled of the change in theme and kept the Hold & Win Respins round pretty much the same is a winner in our eyes.

There is still plenty of action to be had in the base game thanks to the Gold Digger Modifiers, which aid you in your endeavour to unwrap some big wins, but we can’t help but feel that iSoftBet could have built upon these a little more, as they could have the Reel Boosters in the Respins round…it is a time for giving after all!

All in all, Christmas Gold Digger is a jolly addition to the Gold Digger series and will no doubt be enjoyed by all the Gold Diggin’ Gus fans out there.
