Hacksaw Gaming is back with another healthy alternative with quite the fruit twist in their latest release, Fruit Duel!
Fruit Duel is a fruity concotion loaded with juicy Duels where the entire reel transforms into a Wild Multiplier. Fruit Duel is played on a 3×3 grid with lower Volatility and a max win of 3,333x. Thanks to the exciting DuelReels mechanic, you never know when a big win will hit.
Hacksaw Gaming are well known for their mix of healthy and not-so-healthy selection of slots including popular titles like King Carrot, Tasty Treats and Frutz, but will Fruit Duel make a nice addition to the collection?
Let’s play on and find out!
Fruit Duel is a 3 reel slot with 17 fixed paylines. Forming a winning combination requires a minimum of 3 matching symbols from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Fruit Duel is the Strawberry, followed by Cherries, Bananas and Apples. Low-paying symbols fall to Oranges, Grapes, Lemons and Blueberries. There is also a Wild symbol present which substitutes for all symbols except Scatters.
The DuelReels feature present here is fairly new to Hacksaw Gaming slots and some of you may already be familiar with it in Warrior Ways. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure just yet, read on to find out what you can expect.
Landing a ‘VS’ symbol on any of the 3 reels triggers the DuelReels feature. The DuelReels feature transforms the entire reel it’s on into a Wild with a Multiplier of either x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x20, x25x, x50, x75 or x100.
Once active, the VS symbol expands to fill the entire reel and a Duel between 2 Fruits with Multipliers will commence. The reel will only expand if it will create or be part of at least one winning combination once expanded.
The fruit symbol that wins the Duel will apply its Multiplier to the entire reel, forming a Stacked Wild. The value of any winning combinations is then multiplied by the Reel Multiplier. If more than one Wild Reel is part of a winning combination, both their Multipliers will be added together and then applied to all wins.
Landing 3 Scatters in any position on the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10 Free Spins.
During the Free Spins round, there is an increased chance of landing VS symbols than in the base game which also appear with higher Multiplier values.
There are no Scatters present in the Free Spins round, meaning that you will be unable to retrigger the round.
For those outside the UK, you may benefit from a Bonus Buy option.
Hacksaw Gaming has given you access to 2 Bonus Buy options which are as follows.
Let’s be honest, Fruit Duel certainly isn’t a game with that Hacksaw Gaming signature.
Their games have notoriety for striking visuals, interesting themes, innovative gameplay mechanics, and frankly, Fruit Duel just doesn’t feel anywhere near as good as it should be.
We’ve mentioned before about how Hacksaw Gaming tend to sway between dark and edgy themes, and light-hearted soft ones. We’re big fans of the former, and we consider Hand of Anubis, Chaos Crew, Itero and Wanted Dead or a Wild some of their best work.
In contrast, King Carrot, Harvest Wild, Joker Bombs, Double Rainbow and Fruit Duel just feels tame, if not a little boring and unenthusiastic. Of course, we can’t speak for everyone, but we truly believe in the more striking demeanour of some of the more serious looking slots.
In terms of gameplay, Fruit Duel looks to try something different with a 3 reel set up. This comes across as rather limiting, and it probably is in some regard, but Wild Reels can certainly perform given the right circumstances. Still, the potential in Fruit Duel is significantly lower than that of previous games, with a 3,333x maximum cap.
Overall, we think Fruit Duel is a little bit safe, if not lazy. There’s undoubtedly an audience for Fruit Duel, but we’re not feeling it as a contender for any awards any time soon.
