Nitropolis 2 Slot Review

We’re going back to the future with The Dirty Dawgs, Gritty Kitties, and Pug Thugs in an explosive sequel from Elk Studios with Nitropolis 2!

The original Nitropolis took us to a post-apocalyptic world were 4 gangs fought for that precious Nitro, but only one could come out on top.

The fight continues in Nitropolis 2 as we re-visit this dystopian future. Will Nitropolis 2 bring about a dramatic finale where the winner is finally decided?

It’ll be no easy feat for any of the gangs, Sergeant Nitro Wolf is here to clean up the city, and he’s already booked the Rogue Rats! With a steadfast mission to clean up Nitropolis, Sergeant Nitro Wolf will be on your tail!

Nitropolis 2 will bring about a new feature that wasn’t president in the original, with Elk Studio’s incredible X-ITER mechanic, which lets players jump right into the action with various buys that lets you experience the best of what the slot has to offer.

Sadly, the X-ITER feature is a Bonus Buy mechanic with a few more bells and whistles, so unfortunately it’s not available to UK Players. Regardless, there’s still a lot to be excited about, even for those who can’t make use of the X-ITER Feature.

Nitropolis 2 is a sequel that came surprisingly quick from Elk Studios, given that the original game only released last year.

Some revered Nitropolis and all of it’s weird and wonderful features, but some criticised what they considered to be a harsh and hugely volatile game with a Free Spins round that seemed like a mere myth.

Nitropolis 2 will undoubtedly resonate with fans of the originals, but can it turn sceptics into believers with brand new features and the X-iter implementation?

Nitropolis 2 Theme

Nitropolis 2 has that same futuristic feel that the original game has, but they’ve improved on the design in a number of ways.

In the background you’ll see the dreary dystopian future through a neon and industrial looking city.

To the left, you’ll see an introduction to the newest character Nitro Wolf with a banner that says ‘To Serve and Protect’. The law and order aspect that they’ve introduced to rival the criminals of Nitropolis makes for an interesting story.

To the right you’ll see a banner that says ‘in custody’, with a picture of the Rogue Rat. His capture means that he won’t be present in the game, and you know Nitro Wolf isn’t messing about.

Amongst the seriousness of Nitropolis you’ll find some humour in the form of the dog who is ‘doing his business’ at the bottom of the screen, right next to a sign that discourages such things.

The music is where the game design really stands out. Elk Studios have regularly showcased their aptitude in making a great soundtrack. Games like Bompers, brought the house down with a soundtrack that made you want to hit the town, and Nitropolis will give you that same feeling.

Overall, quite a considerable improvement on the design front from Elk Studios with Nitropolis 2.

Nitropolis 2: Betting and Symbols

Betting options in Nitropolis 2 are pretty extensive, with its lowest option of £/€0.20 and its highest option of £/€100.

There are plenty of different options in between the two, so Nitropolis should have an ideal option for all!

When it comes to symbols, the Dirty Dawgs have been knocked down a peg, as the Nitro Wolf takes his place as top symbol. Following on from the Nitro Wolf is the Dirty Dawg, Gritty Kitty and Pug Thug.

Medium paying symbols are comprised of the banners and wanted posters for each of the clans. These include Pest Control, Dirty Dawgs Poster, Gritty Kitty Poster and Pug Thug Poster.

Low paying symbols are A, K, Q & J.

Nitropolis 2: The Base Game and Features

Nitropolis 2 is a 6 reel Slot with up to 191,102,976 ways to win!

In order to form a win, you’ll need 3 or more symbols to match from left to right, starting from the left most reel.

There’s a couple of things in Nitropolis 2 that we saw in the first game, such as Nitro Reels and Winning Respin

  • Nitro Reels – Nitro Reels cover two symbol spaces, but can contain 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 of the same symbol, which gives more ways to win.
  • Winning Respin – Any winning symbols included in a win will respin. The Respin continues as long as new winning combinations appear

Something brand new is the Nitro Booster, which introduces reel modifiers into the game

Nitro Booster

There are 8 different features available on the Nitro Booster, which gives Nitropolis 2 real diversity compared to its predecessor.

  • Respin – All Nitro Reels and bonus symbols lock in place, and the Nitro Booster and all reels Respin
  • Both Ways – Game pays left to right and right to left
  • All Wild – All Sticky and Landing Nitro Reels will contain Wild Symbols
  • All Premium – All Nitro Reels will contain high value symbols
  • All Match – All Nitro Reels landing match up with a symbol on the reel to the left
  • Nitro Wild – Nitro Reels that land in the same column will contain Wild Symbols
  • Nitro Upgrade – Nitro Reels landing in the same column are upgraded
  • Nitro Match – All Nitro Reels landing match up with a symbol to the left.

The Nitro Booster Features makes Nitropolis 2 infinitely more interesting than the original game was, and we haven’t even covered the bonus game yet!

Nitropolis 2 Gameplay

Nitropolis 2 Free Spins

Free Spins in Nitropolis 2 are triggered when 3 or more bonus symbols land anywhere in view

  • 3 Scatters – 10 Free Spins
  • 4 Scatters – 15 Free Spins
  • 5 Scatters – 20 Free Spins
  • 6 Scatters – 25 Free Spins

In the Free Spins all Nitro Reels lock in place and remain in play for the remainder of the round.

Free Spins in Nitropolis 2 may be retriggered if 3 or more bonus symbols land in view. The number of spins received is the same as above relative to the number of Scatter Symbols you land.

Nitropolis 2 Free Spins

Nitropolis 2 X-iter

The X-iter function from Elk Studios is one that we’ve seen implemented within a few of their games now.

This is essentially a Bonus Buy mechanic, so unfortunately it won’t be available for UK Players.

For readers outside of the UK, here’s what you can expect if you utilise the X-iter Feature.

  • 5x Spin – This costs 5x your bet, but it will guarantee a winning spin
  • 25x Spin – This guarantees 3 spins with a feature or bonus symbol landing on every position in the Nitro Booster at the cost of 25x your bet
  • Bonus Buy – This guarantees 3 bonus symbols and entry into the Bonus at the cost of 100x your bet
  • Big Bonus – This guarantees 4 bonus symbols and entry into the bonus game at the cost of 200x
  • Super Bonus – This guarantees entry to the super bonus, which has 12 Nitro Reels which is the maximum number possible. This costs 500x your bet.

These are some exciting features indeed, but UK Players can only look from afar unfortunately.

4 Scatter Bonuses aren’t too uncommon if you’re lucky, but as we’ve seen with some of the NoLimit City Titles, 5 Scatter Super Bonuses seem to be exclusively for those who buy their way in.

Nitropolis 2: Our Verdict

Nitropolis 2 is very similar to the first game in some aspects, but when you look closer you’ll see that its actually dramatically improved with the implementation of the Nitro Booster.

Despite the vast improvements, the maximum win of Nitropolis 2 remains the same to that of its predecessor at 10,000x. With the insane ways to win and modifiers at play here, it feels like this is a capped win rather than the epitome of what Nitropolis 2 is capable of.

It’s a shame that this isn’t bigger and better than the original, and the RTP doesn’t do much in the way of inspiring confidence with a figure of 95%. Still, 10,000x is nothing to scoff at by any means, so it’s still very desirable.

Without the X-Iter feature, which won’t be available to many, Nitropolis 2 is still hard to bonus as the first one was, so you could be waiting a while to see all of what Nitropolis 2 has to offer.

As well of being hard to bonus, Nitropolis 2 can be painstakingly cruel. The top feature for example starts you off with 12 nitro reels, so you really only get 2 chances to connect with 3 symbols because of this, leading to frequent and frustrating misses. Due to the number of Nitro Reels, one singular hit could result in a massive hit, but its frustrating all the same.

Overall, there’s a lot of excitement to be had in Nitropolis 2. It’s weird and wonderful futuristic style and crazy back story continues to make the Nitropolis series unique and fun. The gameplay here is much more entertaining than that of Nitropolis 1, so fans of the original will be thrilled to get a bigger, better and louder version from Elk Studios.
