10,000 BC 2 DoubleMax Slot Review
Yggdrasil Gaming partner 4ThePlayer returns to the ice age in 10,000 BC 2 DoubleMax!
As we travel back in time, 4ThePlayer continues to move forward, highlighting modern mechanics and features, whilst implementing quality graphics and sound effects.
Face the elements and combine DoubleMax Multipliers with gigantic Gigablox symbols to create prehistoric wins. The temperature rises when the Volcano erupts and launches Lava on the reels, generating Wilds or doubling the Win Multiplier. The raging mammoth is back in the Mammoth Explode and Shuffle features, creating epic cascade combos.
The original 10,000 BC DoubleMax utilised the DoubleMax and Gigablox features, both of which are more than capable of immense potential individually.
With this in mind, we’re confident that the sequel will deliver, but will it be bigger and better than the original? Let’s play on and find out!
Base Game & Features
10,000 BC 2 DoubleMax is a 5-reel Video Slot with 50 active pay lines and available bet sizes between £.€0.20 per spin and £.€100 per spin.
Wins occur when 3-5 matching symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel. This game has 10 High and Low-paying symbols which generate payouts between 0.1x and 1.25x your bet. Winning symbols are wiped out and replaced with new symbols that drop from above via a Cascade feature.
10,000 BC 2 DoubleMax is a highly volatile slot with an overall RTP of 94% and a generous max win cap of 10,000x your bet. There is also an Autoplay function and Bonus Buy feature for non-UK players.
Wilds
Wilds appear on all reels during the Fireball Wilds Feature, substituting for all symbols except Scatters. As Wilds have no payout, they will always combine with other symbols to create wins. If a win line is made up of Wilds, no payout is awarded.
Gigablox Symbols
Gigablox refers to oversized symbols that function like individual symbols in a 2×2 or 3×3 formation. During gameplay, Gigablox symbols may fill the reels, including Scatters in a 1-high formation. Wild symbols may also appear as Gigablox symbols when they are part of the Fireball Wilds feature.
DoubleMax Mechanic
When a Cascade event occurs, every win increments the DoubleMax feature to the next available Multiplier, up to a maximum of x2,048. In the base game, the Win Multiplier is reset between spins. However, in Free Spins, the Win Multiplier remains active until the end of the round.
In-Reel Features
During any random spin, 1 of 5 In-Reel features can occur – these include:
- Fireball Wilds: The Volcano can launch 1-3 Wilds onto the reels.
- Multiplier Inferno: A fireball from the Volcano will hit the Win Multiplier, causing it to double.
- Lava Flow: Lava will cover an entire reel and transform all symbols into copies of another symbol (excluding Scatters and Wilds).
- Mammoth Explode: On a spin where no win is formed, the Mammoth can hit the reels to destroy symbols. This causes new symbols to drop from above, guaranteeing a win and increasing the Win Multiplier. This feature also triggers Fireball Wilds.
- Mammoth Shuffle: On a spin where no win is formed, the Lava Flow feature triggers on a random reel. The mammoth will hit the reels and push the Lava Flow reel to the leftmost position. On subsequent spins, the reel will move 1 position to the right until it reaches the rightmost reel or does not create a win.
Golden Bet
Players can activate the Golden Bet feature for 25% of their current bet. Once active, your chances of triggering Free Spins is doubled.
Bonus Buy
- Free Spins: Instantly access Free Spins for 100x your bet. (94% RTP)
- Multiplier Spin: Trigger a spin with a higher Win Multiplier in the base game for 125x your bet. (94% RTP)
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters in the base game triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 15, and 20 Free Spins respectively. During Free Spins, all mentioned features are active and the Win Multiplier builds up without resetting between spins.
Our Verdict
When the first 10,000BC DoubleMax game launched, we were intrigued by the amalgamation of 2 standout features – DoubleMax and Gigablox. We still are, to be honest, and we’re standing now atop the mountain to watch lava spew down on this fiery sequel in awe of both graphics and two features that work great together.
Gigablox has been a bit hit or miss with players in the past. We’ve played a few on stream and some love it, some hate it. What seems to be ever-popular however, is the DoubleMax mechanic. The fierce momentum it can gain in such a short time and the significant potential that follows is its main draw, and though Gigablox isn’t quite as profound, it compliments the DoubleMax feature beautifully.
The changes here from the first may not be as significant to UK players as they will be to those elsewhere, with a buy feature that lets players jump straight into the action, but we dare say there are still 10,000 reasons to give it a go, or maybe 9998, if you’re expecting a higher max win and at least equal RTP to the original. 10,000x is certainly appealing, but we feel like the sequel should have been a bit higher. We get the naming convention and its relation to its stats, but we’d certainly forgive some discrepancies there.
Overall, it’s not a light and day difference from the original, but its appeal is still undeniable.
