All About the Bass Slot Review
An angler in a floppy hat stands in a little red rowboat, rod bent, above a grid that sits half-submerged in a freshwater lake, with a murky lakebed drifting with weeds and bass beneath the reels. All About the Bass spends more of its design effort on what’s happening under that waterline than on the reels themselves, and I’d argue that’s the right call: the fish-prize ladder below the grid is doing more work here than any of the 21 paylines above it.
It’s a Crazy Tooth Studio release, running a 5×3 grid with 21 paylines, a 96.17% RTP, medium volatility and bets from 0.25 up to 25.00. The studio fished this lake again with All About the Bass 2: Froggy Style, which took the same fish-prize stock and handed the water over to frogs. If you’ve spun Lucky Clucks or 777 Rainbow Respins, you’ll know the house style: thick outlines, broad comedy, one accumulating prize pool doing quiet work beneath ordinary spins.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay the standard way: matching symbols next to each other on one of the 21 lines, multiplied by the bet multiplier of the spin. Your bet multiplier is the credits played divided by 0.25, so a 0.50 spin carries a multiplier of 2. Feature and bonus wins are added on top of regular line wins rather than replacing them.
The wild substitutes for all paying symbols and never for the scatter. It has two multiplier cousins that do the same job with a bonus attached:
- 2X wild multiplier – substitutes for all paying symbols, multiplies any win it’s part of by 2, and lands on reels 1, 3 and 5 only
- 3X wild multiplier – substitutes for all paying symbols, multiplies any win it’s part of by 3, and lands on reels 2 and 4 only
Neither substitutes for the scatter. Three further symbols don’t pay at all, and they only appear in the base game: the passive symbol, the boat symbols and the hook. They’re not filler, though.
The boat and the hook between them are the trigger for the game’s signature feature. The passive symbol simply takes up space on the reels without costing you anything.
All About The Bass Feature
Land a boat symbol above a reel and a hook symbol on the reel directly below it, and the feature fires. It awards the fish prize sitting directly below the hook. Beneath the reels, a ladder of fish prizes is on display at all times, shifting values from spin to spin, and any spin can award one.
Those figures are prize amounts tied to your stake, not fixed properties of the game, and they move with every spin, so the ladder is a live market rather than a fixed menu. At a 2.50 bet it has shown anything from 6.00 up to 36.00. The prizes themselves come in five tiers, plus special fish that do their own jobs:
- Small, medium, large and mega fish – straight credit prizes, with colours that may vary
- Special fish – awards its own printed value
- COLLECT ALL fish – awards the total of the four other fish prizes in one go
- INSTANT BONUS fish – awards the All About The Bonus immediately
- 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x multiplier fish – multiplies another fish prize by its value and pays the result
Two refinements give the ladder its pull. The multiplier fish grows in value each time it moves under the next reel along the bottom of the gameboard, so a fish that lingers gets fatter. And a wild multiplier sitting on the reel above an awarded small, medium, large or mega fish multiplies that prize too.
Fish prizes can move on any base game spin. Once one is caught, the vacated slot is repopulated at the same value or higher, which is the mechanic the whole game is built around.
Credit awards are multiplied by the feature bet multiplier, taken from the spin that triggered the catch. The feature is complete as soon as the fish prize is paid.
All About the Bass Bonus Spins
Three scatter symbols anywhere on the gameboard award the All About The Bonus, and it’s a different animal from the base game entirely. The grid is repopulated with credit values and special bonus symbols, and you’re given five bonus spins to work through it.
On each bonus spin, one or more multipliers land on the gameboard. Whatever a multiplier lands on gets activated, and a credit value it activates is multiplied by that multiplier’s value. The special symbols each do something of their own:
- Retrigger – increases the total bonus spins by the activating multiplier, then converts itself into an active credit value equal to the minimum initial credit value
- Credit boost – increases every activated credit value by a boost amount times the activating multiplier
- Row – activates all other positions on the same row, at the activating multiplier’s value
- Column – activates all other positions on the same column, at the activating multiplier’s value
- Orthogonal – activates the positions directly to the left, right, top and bottom, at the activating multiplier’s value
Each special symbol can only be activated once per landed multiplier, so there’s no stacking the same row symbol repeatedly. Every position on the board is capped at a maximum credit value, counting all multiplication and special-symbol activation.
When the final bonus spin resolves, all activated credit values pay out at once. Bonus wins are added to regular wins, and credit awards are multiplied by the bonus bet multiplier from the triggering spin. The stated win-up-to figures are cumulative across an entire bonus session, not per spin.
Retriggers are the variable that can stretch a round well past its opening five spins. A retrigger converted into a credit value also keeps paying at the end, so it works twice over. An INSTANT BONUS fish in the base game is the other route in, skipping the scatter hunt entirely.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Most of your time here is spent watching the water more than the reels, and that’s exactly why anyone chooses it: the fish prizes below the grid are the game’s real draw, and they only ever get replaced at the same value or better. It rewards the long look.
The bonus board is the best thing about it, because five different special symbols mean no two rounds build the same way. The paylines are the weak part – they exist mostly to keep the reels busy between catches, and the base paytable carries little of the game’s actual weight.
This is one for players who like a prize pool quietly compounding under a steady medium-volatility surface, not for anyone chasing headline line wins. Drop a line, watch the ladder, and the lake looks after the rest.
