Apocalypse Slot Review

Nolimit City’s cryptic dystopian world comes to life in their newest slot Apocalypse. Many forms of media portray a story where the world has gone to pot thanks to a Nuclear war, and it’s a surprisingly popular genre.

In the world of video games, you have the infamous world of Fallout, which was also recently released as a TV series. Why is it so popular? In part, it’s because we unjustly believe we’d not only survive but thrive in such a situation. We haven’t been hoarding non-perishable food in the Fruity Slots bunker for no reason after all.

Apocalypse isn’t Nolimit City’s first tale of a world gone mad, with xWays Hoarder xSplit and Karen Maneater as a formidable and memorable highlight of their catalogue. Apocalypse doesn’t look like a follow-up although thematically similar, and here Nolimit City debuts their newest exciting x mechanic, Super xNudge. This new feature is sure to turn heads as pretty much every one of their features do, but can it shine in such a dark and dreary world?

xNudge Wilds

Special xNudge Wilds appear on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5. It will nudge down to the bottom position when in view, increasing its payout Multiplier by +x1 with each nudge. If an xNudge Wild lands on the bottom position, it acts as a regular Wild.

Super xNudge Wilds

Super xNudge Wilds are only present on reels 3 and 4. When a Super xNudge Wild appears on the same row on both reels, it activates. If not, it will act as a regular Wild symbol.

Once active, it will drop to the bottom position, increasing its payout Multiplier by +x1 with each drop. Once at the bottom, it will expand to fill the entire reel. Several Wild Multipliers will add to each other for a combined total, up to a maximum Super xNudge of x8.

xBet

Before or after any game round, you can choose to activate the xBet feature for an additional 1.5x your current bet. This enhances your chances of triggering Carnage/Doomsday Spins by more than 3 times.

Bonus Buy

  • Carnage Spins – 80x your bet
  • Doomsday Spins – 500x your bet
  • Cataclysm Spins – 2,000x your bet
  • Lucky Draw (50% Carnage, 40% Doomsday, 10% Cataclysm) – 444x your bet

Carnage & Doomsday Spins

Landing 3 or 4 Scatters in the base game will trigger 1 of 2 Bonus Modes: Carnage Spins or Doomsday Spins respectively. Each bonus consists of 2 features, as follows.

Hoarding Feature

Start your bonus with 3 Respins that refill each time a value symbol appears in the reel area. Each Scatter that triggered the bonus will be converted into random value symbols.

Each symbol is evaluated as times your current bet. Possible symbol values are x1, x5, x10, x20, or x40. When a column is filled with all 4 symbols, an additional spin is awarded in the Feasting Feature. The Bonus will advance to the Feasting Feature once all spins are used, or all positions are filled.

Feasting Feature

The Feasting Feature awards 5 and 10 Free Spins in Carnage and Doomsday Spins respectively. During this time, enhanced rows become active on the top and bottom reels, revealing only Character symbols.

Each Character symbol increases the current Multiplier depending on the feature they activate:

  • Creator – Awards a new value symbol on an empty position
  • Triplet – Randomly upgrades 3 symbol values to the next level at the same or different positions
  • Cutter – Multiplies a random symbol value by x2.
  • Licker – Adds the highest value to the total counter
  • Crawer – Collects all symbol values and adds them to the total counter

A persistent version of each Character symbol may also land, moving right to the adjacent reel during each spin. This will activate its Character symbol again until it reaches the last reel.

Cataclysm Spins

Landing 5 Scatters in the base game triggers Cataclysm Spins. In addition to Doomsday Spins features, only Persistent Character symbols are available during the Feasting Feature.

Conclusion

If the actual Apocalypse is anything like Nolimit City’s Apocalypse, then bring it on. The end may be nigh but this marks the start of their new Super xNudge feature, which is sure to feature in future games. When this feature works in tandem with a regular xNudge then things can quickly turn from mad to mental – we can only imagine how this may perform with other staple Nolimit features should they decide to put them together in the future. For now, Apocalypse is an excellent showcase of its capabilities, and the rest of the features are very interesting indeed.

The bonus round here isn’t unlike Relax Gaming’s Money Train series, but mistake it not for a copy. Even if there are similarities, Nolimit City likes to do things their own way, and their own way is often as exciting as it is diabolical, crazy and unfathomable. For the full experience you want the Cataclysm Spins, but at 2,000x the bet to buy it costs as much as San Quentin with a fraction of the potential. We can only surmise that the payout potential here though not as big (20,000x) is MUCH more frequent than San Quentin’s very volatile bonus.

Overall, we think Apocalypse deserves high praise. The end of the world shouldn’t be exciting, but Nolimit City makes it so.
