Bomb Bonanza Slot Review 2024
Dust off your mining gear, Pragmatic Play is sending us on another Mining expedition, where we will pair up with the local Prospector in a bid to line our pockets with some serious Gold, in Bomb Bonanza!
It seems that Pragmatic Play don’t like to hang about when it comes to releasing their latest titles, not that we’re complaining of course. Although Pragmatic Play don’t give us much wriggle room in between reviews, its nice to see that each and every one brings something different to the table, apart from theme.
We’ve seen our fair share of Mining-inspired slots in our time, with Misery Mining and Fire in the Hole xBomb from Provider Nolimit City etched in your mind as some of the best. If memory serves, Pragmatic Play has only recently dabbled in this particular theme in Drill that Gold, but will Bomb Bonanza be a cut above this one?
Let’s play on and find out!
Bomb Bonanza Base Game and Features
Bomb Bonanza is a 5 reel slot with 50 fixed paylines. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbol types from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.25 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€125 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Bomb Bonanza is the Prospector, followed by the Bag of Gold, Mining Sieve and Pickaxe. Low apying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen and Jack. There is also a Wild symbol present, which substitutes for all symbols except Scatters.
The base game in Bomb Bonanza could be considered a little dull, but thankfully Pragmatic Play has thrown in an Expanding Wilds feature that keeps the base game interesting. More on this below!
Expanding Wilds
During any random spin in the base, whenever at least 1 Wild symbol is present on the reels, the Expanding Wilds feature may trigger.
Once this happens, all present Wilds on screen will randomly expand Left, Right, Up or Down in a square, up to 5×5 in size. Expanding Wilds will replace all High and Low-paying symbols in its path. This feature is similar to Big Time Gaming’s Pirate Pays slot, which we know offers plenty of potential should you land more than one Expanding Wild.
Bomb Bonanza Free Spins
Landing 3 Scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5, triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 6 Free Spins.
During the Free Spins round, Golden Nugget symbols will come into play. Each time a Golden Nugget lands in view, it is collected and stored in the Meter to the right of the screen, and all empty reel positions are filled with a random symbol from above.
Once a certain amount of Golden Nuggets are collected, a progressive feature is awarded.
- Level 2 – Awarded when 5 Golden Nuggets are collected. Reaching Level 2 awards an additional +4 Free Spins and all Wilds expand to 2×2 in size.
- Level 3 – Awarded when 5 Golden Nuggets are collected. Reaching Level 3 awards an additional +2 Free Spins and all Wilds expand to 3×3 in size.
- Level 4 – Awarded when 5 Golden Nuggets are collected. Reaching Level 4 awards an additional +2 Free Spins and all Wilds expand to 4×4 in size.
- Level 5 – Awarded when 3 Golden Nuggets are collected. Reaching Level 5 awards an additional +1 Free Spin and all Wilds reach their maximum size of 5×5.
Bomb Bonanza: Our Verdict
Pragmatic Play titles are staples for some and their reputation is well-earned, but is Bomb Bonanza a reflection on the kind of quality that mad them so infamous?
In our opinion, it’s not amazing, mainly due to the relatively low maximum win figure. 2,000x is about as much as you can hope for in Bomb Bonanza, which is disappointing considering how 5,000x is usually the standard. If you’re looking for a slot with absolutely huge potential, then Bomb Bonanza may not be your best choice. It can be dependable at times though, so if you’re looking for something that is a little lower on the volatility scale then it may be a perfect choice.
In other areas, Bomb Bonanza doesn’t exactly wow you in terms of visuals or design. Mining themed slots are as common as they come, and overexposure to this kind of design kind of makes you yawn as it blends in with a plethora of slots just like it.
Overall, Bomb Bonanza might not be a stand-out title from Pragmatic Play, but there’s moments of promise here and there. If you go into Bomb Bonanza with tempered expectations then you might even like it.
