Burning Sun Slot Review
A star churns orange and red along a curved horizon, a gold frame of curled filigree holding sixteen reels in front of it. Burning Sun barely plays as a slot in front of all that: with ten symbols of a kind needed for a regular win on the 4×4 grid, most of what happens between bonus rounds is setup, not payment. That’s a bolder bet on one round than most games in Wazdan‘s coin-collecting line are willing to make.
The reward for the patience is a 5,000x GRAND jackpot at 96.12% RTP, in the same family as 9 Coins Grand Diamond Edition, 12 Coins Grand Gold Edition and 25 Coins x3000. Whether the round earns all that waiting is the question.
Sixteen Reels, Ten of a Kind
There are no paylines here and no ways-to-win count. Each of the sixteen positions on the 4×4 grid is its own reel, and a win is awarded for drawing at least ten symbols of a kind anywhere on the grid. Only the highest win is paid, and where two combinations of equal value land together, the one higher up the paytable takes the money.
The wild substitutes for all symbols except Bonus symbols, which is a modest job on a grid this small but a useful one when ten of a kind is the entry price. When a sticky symbol appears, the outcome of the remaining non-sticky positions is entirely random.
Cash symbols sit outside the regular pay structure, and their behaviour in the base game is specific:
- Draw four or five Cash symbols and they stick to the reels for one spin
- Sticky Cash symbols increase the chances of activating the Bonus Game
- Cash symbol values pay out only inside the Hold the Jackpot round
- Bonus symbol wins, likewise, are paid only during the Bonus Game
The studio’s adjustable volatility system is here too. Three settings shape how the game pays:
- Low pays more frequently but mostly smaller, for shorter sessions
- Standard mixes the two, aiming for big wins at a fair frequency
- High goes for the big hits and accepts that they come rarely
The bonus round plays at whatever volatility level and bet triggered it. Autoplay supports the usual stops: at any win, on bonus entry, on single wins exceeding a set amount, and on balance moves up or down.
Between rounds, the interface carries a few of the studio’s standing conveniences. Fast Play toggles between normal, fast and ultra fast spin speeds, and an Energy Saving Mode is there to conserve battery on longer sessions. Neither changes what the game pays; they simply change how quickly it happens.
Hold the Jackpot Bonus Game
Draw six or more Bonus symbols of any type and the Hold the Jackpot round begins. Every Bonus symbol locks in place, and you start with three re-spins. Each new Bonus symbol that lands resets the count to three, and the round runs until the re-spins run out or all sixteen positions are filled.
Everything pays at the end. The finished prize is the sum of all Bonus symbol values on the grid, including any MINI, MINOR and MAJOR jackpots collected along the way, unless the GRAND ends the round first.
Cash symbols carry the round’s bread and butter, and the jackpot ladder sits above them:
- Cash symbols pay 1x-10x, 12x and 15x the bet
- MINI Jackpot pays 20x
- MINOR Jackpot pays 50x
- MAJOR Jackpot pays 150x
- GRAND Jackpot pays 5,000x for all sixteen positions
Multiple jackpots of the same type can be won in a single round. The GRAND is the game’s maximum prize, and Bonus symbol values aren’t added to it.
Mystery, Jackpot Mystery and the Collector
Two transforming symbols do the round’s heavy lifting. The Mystery symbol can turn into any other Bonus symbol, while the Jackpot Mystery symbol is restricted to the Collector or the MINI, MINOR and MAJOR jackpot symbols. Both open one by one when the round finishes, which makes the final reveal a slow business when several are on the grid.
The Collector is the one to hope for. It only arrives via a Mystery symbol, and its job is to gather every Cash symbol value on the grid and multiply the total by a random 1x-20x. With a grid full of 15x Cash symbols, that multiplier is where the round stops being polite.
Sticky to Infinity
Mystery and Jackpot Mystery symbols can also appear in the base game, carrying the Sticky to Infinity feature. They stick to the reels until the bonus round ends, raising the odds that six Bonus symbols assemble and the round actually triggers.
These symbols are tied to the bet level they landed on, and the rules are strict:
- Change your bet level and they’re temporarily set aside, returning only at the level they were obtained on
- Play a full round on a different level and they’re removed from the reels completely
Dropping your stake to chase a sticky board costs you the board. It’s a rule that punishes exactly the kind of stake-shifting a volatile game invites.
Buy Feature
A shop sits in the interface, and the game sells direct entry to the Hold the Jackpot round. The buy also unlocks three settings the base game doesn’t offer: Ultra, Extreme and Double Extreme Volatility, each promising bigger wins than the standard levels. Each purchase plays at the bet level you choose in the shop.
Gamble Feature
Every win can be risked in a classic double-or-nothing draw. The sequence runs like this:
- After a win, activate the gamble to risk it for a double
- Select one of two symbols
- A draw decides the winning symbol; a correct pick doubles the win counter
- Bank the win at any point, or keep going
- A wrong pick forfeits whatever the counter held
The ladder runs seven rounds, so a string of correct calls can multiply a modest win several times over. That’s a long sequence of coin flips on money already won, which is exactly what a gamble should be.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
This is a game you sit through for one round. The base game rarely pays, the starfield and the gold frame pass the time, and every spin quietly banks hope towards six Bonus symbols. Anyone choosing it is choosing that round, and the round is worth choosing: the re-spin resets hold tension right to the last drop, and the Collector turning a full grid of Cash symbols into a 1x-20x multiplied haul is a real swing, not decoration.
The weakness is the Sticky to Infinity bet rule. Sticky Mystery symbols vanish if you change stakes, so a bankroll adjustment at the wrong moment wipes out a board you’d spent spins building, in a game whose volatility practically invites that adjustment.
It suits players who already like the coin-collecting format and want it wrapped in Wazdan’s best-looking artwork, and it will frustrate anyone who wants their regular spins to pay. For the patient, the sun here burns steadily enough.
