Welcome to Catemple – an Ancient and mysterious Temple where cats rule and Egyptians drool. Buried deep in the desert, this Temple is stuffed with glorious artefacts, shiny gems… and lots of hairballs.
Created by the brilliant minds at ELK Studios, Catemple is set to release in November 2024. Catemple, if you haven’t already guessed, is the perfect blend of Egyptians and Cats, but make no mistake that this game was created with feline lovers in mind.
In 2022, Pragmatic Play combined the two themes in Cleocatra, which is the closest Catemple comparison we can think of. However, Cats have appeared in multiple titles before this, including Cat Clans, Cats of Olympuss, and DJ Cat.
These games are noticeably different when it comes to mechanics and overall gameplay, but the running Cat theme is forever strong. After the success of Cleocatra, there’s a high chance that Catemple will be an instant hit with players upon its release.
Catemple – Base Game
Base Game & Features
Catemple is a 5×7 Video Slot with a Scatter Pays mechanic. Wins occur when 7 or more matching symbols land anywhere on the reels, regardless of their position. In addition, there are 5 different payout levels; 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15+ symbols.
This game has individual sets of Low and High-paying symbols, awarding payouts between 0.1x and 25x your bet. After a winning combination hits, it is removed and replaced by new symbols from above. This creates an opportunity to generate additional wins in a single spin.
Perhaps one of Catemple’s most appealing features is its 10,000x max win cap, balanced by an overall RTP of 94%. Given the Mid-High Volatility rating, both statistics are within a normal range for this type of game.
Wilds
Wild symbols substitute for all paytable symbols in the base game and Free Spins round. In addition to regular Wilds, special Hot Wilds can spawn between 1 and 3 Wilds and/or Hot Wilds when they appear. Each new Wild will spread more Wilds across the reels.
Feature Symbols
During any game round, a special Mystery symbol may appear, awarding one of the following feature symbols:

The Mystery symbol may also reveal a Paw Strike feature, which removes all non-winning symbols from the reels, resulting in Golden Coins appearing in the Collect Zone.
Golden Coins
When a Golden Coin appears in the Collect Zone, its prize is awarded instantly. For example, if a Scatter or Super Scatter Coin hits, it is collected and either Free Spins round is triggered. If a Multiplier lands in the Collect Zone, it will apply to the Global Multiplier.

Free Spins
Landing a Scatter or Super Scatter within the Collect Zone activates the Free Spins and Super Free Spins round respectively, awarding 3 Free Spins. If more than 1 of these Scatters lands within the Collect Zone, additional Free Spins are awarded.
In normal Free Spins, the Collect Zone is expanded to 2 rows, while Super Free Spins expands it to 3 rows. The expanded Collect Zone increases your chances of landing and collecting additional Golden Coins.
During each Free Spins round, any spins that result in a no-win spin increase the Global Multiplier by +x1. Finally, landing additional Scatters awards +1 Free Spin.

Our Verdict
We’re only going to say this once – we’re definitely team cat than we are team dog, however, we’re certain that cat and dog lovers alike will find Catemple pleasing and enjoyable.
Like 4 Fantastic Vikings Go Fishing, ELK Studios has created a perfect mashup of themes involving lovable Cats and powerful Egyptians. Some may find this strange at first, but given that cats were worshipped in Egyptian times, the two themes together make perfect sense.
A quick recap of Catemple’s most appealing features includes its Scatter Pays format, promising statistics, and the inclusion of a nifty Super Free Spins round. Admittedly, the overall RTP of 94% is a little on the lower side than we’d like, but that’s not at all unusual for a Mid-High Volatility slot like this one.
When all is said and done, Catemple is a fine example of ELK Studios’ innovative mindset and one that aims to please players looking for a feature-rich slot…cat lovers or not.
