Coba Reborn Slot Review
Coba Reborn from ELK Studios expands on their Coba series with the sequel, aptly named, Coba Reborn. At least it isn’t Coba 2, so points for creativity already. Coba Reborn carries on the story deep within the jungles of Indonesia when word of another temple was spread far and wide. Locals have been told that snakes have the powers of immortality from eating rare orchids, but is there any truth to the legend?
ELK Studios make immersive worlds, but their creative prowess in the development department is far greater.
The original Coba had impressive mechanics that yielded even more impressive results, and we should hope that the sequel holds more of the same magic, but with an extra sprinkle of creativity to make it a worthy successor.
It’s very recognisable at first sight, but we’re hoping that ELK has transformed it with features that make it stand out from the original.
Let’s check it out.
Coba Reborn Base Game and Features
Coba Reborn is a 7×7 Video Slot with a Cluster Pays mechanic. Forming winning combinations requires a minimum of 5 of the same symbols to land either Horizontally or Vertically across the grid.
The minimum bet available here is £.€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Coba Reborn has a theoretical RTP of 94.04% and a max win cap of 25,000x.
In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Gold Token, followed by the Red, Blue, and Green Tokens. Low-paying symbols fall to the Monkey, Lizard, and Turtle. Wild symbols substitute for all High and Low-paying symbols.
Each time a winning cluster forms, all winning symbols will be removed from the grid, and new symbols will drop down from above via an Avalanche feature, with the possibility of forming more winning clusters.
Winning symbols, once removed, will be added to the Snake Progress Meter atop the reel set. The Avalanche feature will continue until no new wins occur.
Snake Progress Meter
Filling the Snake Progress meter to half-full will trigger a feature where a random number of Wilds are placed on the grid. This is done after the symbol refill.
The award for filling the entire Snake Progress meter depends on on the current active level. All Snakes are released one at a time after the symbol refill. Levels 1, 2, and 3 will release 3 Snakes from randomly chosen entry points on either side of the grid, and Level 4 will release 6 Snakes from random entry points.
Snakes
A Snake is a linear cluster of symbols that increases in length as it moves across the grid, consisting of a head and body. Snakes are at least 5 symbols long and will always form a partial winning cluster, or become part of a larger cluster.
A yellow-bodied snake means that it will survive until the next Avalanche feature, whereas a blue-bodied snake indicates that it may die. The first symbol that a snake crawls over becomes the currently selected snake symbol, which is shown on the snake’s head.
The selected snake symbol will become Wild if the first symbol is an Orchid. Once a symbol is chosen, each new symbol the snake crawls over will transform into the chosen symbol (excluding Wilds and Multiplier Wilds). Symbols that become part of the snake are given a Gold Frame around them.
If a snake crosses over the same symbol as the chosen one, a Wild, or Orchid, it will eat the symbol and increase its length, making an additional symbol move and enter a survival state by turning yellow. If a snake does not crawl over its chosen symbol, Wild, or Orchid, it will die and be removed from play.
Snakes that have a Wild symbol as their chosen symbol will transform crossed symbols into Wilds. Such snakes must eat Wilds, Multiplier Wilds, or Orchids if it is to grow and survive.
Snakes that cross over each other will form a Multiplier Wild symbol. This Multiplier Wild will begin at x2 and doubles with each additional crossing at the same position. Snakes that attempt to cross over themselves or bite their own tail without the Ouroboros feature active will die and be removed from the grid.
Orchids
In the base game, there are 4 different types of Orchid symbols available, each with its own unique feature known as Blood, Hydra, Rebirth, and Ouroboros. These symbols offer the following Features.
- Blood Orchid – This symbol can drain any other Orchid to spawn a snake from the blood orchid position. When there are 2 Blood Orchids in view, a snake can spawn from both. The former Blood Orchid position will transform into a Wild once the snake has completed its move. Also, a random number of snakes can appear from random entry points when a snake eats a Blood Orchid.
- Hydra Orchid – A snake will spawn behind the head of a snake that eats a Hydra Orchid. The new snake will continue with the same selected symbol as it eats the Hydra Orchid. If a snake that eats the Hydra Orchid is carrying a Rebirth or Ouroboros Orchid, the features will pass on to the new snake.
- Rebirth Orchid – A snake that eats the Rebirth Orchid can be resurrected from the dead. The resurrected snake will have the same length as it did when it died and will retain the Ouroboros feature if it was carrying it. The Rebirth Orchid can be carried by another snake across multiple Avalanches until it is used.
- Ouroboros Orchid – When a snake eats an Ouroboros Orchid, the snake is able to cross itself without dying during one movement. Once it has crossed itself, the snake will grow in length and enters survival mode.
A snake is able to carry both the Rebirth and Ouroboros Orchids, but cannot eat another of these if it is already carrying them.

Coba Reborn: Our Verdict
Coba Reborn is another great instalment from ELK, but we can’t help but feel like Coba and Coba Reborn doesn’t appeal quite as much as their headliner titles like the Gold Series, Toro slots, or even their individual titles like Rabbit Royale and Pirotes 2.
The additional features make themselves known, which quickly differentiates it from the original in a good way. However, plenty of influence from the original game remains, so it’s very familiar straight away. The RTP on Coba Reborn is lower, but is it really a huge drawback? The marginal difference and the effect it actually has on the average player over a short term is still up for debate, but some may use it as a deciding factor.
Otherwise, Coba reborn has an impressive 25,000x maximum win. It’s substantial, but if we’re being picky, we’d have liked to have seen it exceed the first game.
Overall, we think Coba Reborn has a lot of potential and plenty of appeal, yet its infamy may not be quite as prominent as others in the ELK catalogue.
