Da Vinci Diamonds Slot Review
Most slots that promise one bonus round spend the base game apologising for it with respins and mini-features. Da Vinci Diamonds does the opposite: it hangs its whole worth on a single free spins round and lets the ordinary spins run plain, which is either a confident design or a lazy one, depending on how much you value the round waiting at the end.
The setting is a Renaissance gallery treated like a jewel case. The reels sit in a thick carved gold frame with acanthus scrollwork curling from the top corners, twin strips of faceted stones run down the outer edges like settings bolted into the gilt, and everything floats on flat black so the gold carries all the light. The 5×4 grid runs 20 paylines of gemstones and Old Master portraits, and the bonus swaps strict lines for combinations that count anywhere. The studio behind it isn’t credited in the record, which suits a game that’s always been about the paintings rather than the painter.
Base Game & Features
The grid is 5×4, which gives each reel four rows of symbols and makes the 20 paylines feel roomy rather than crowded. Wins form left to right across played lines, with three matching symbols the minimum for most combinations. It’s a conventional line-based setup, and the game doesn’t complicate it.
The basics of how a spin resolves are short enough to list in full:
- Matching symbols must land on a played payline, left to right from the first reel
- Only the highest winning combination on each played line counts
- Wins on multiple lines are added together
- Bonus symbols are judged on their own terms, not as part of ordinary line wins
The symbol set splits into two families. Cut gemstones fill the lower end, seven stones in all, and portraits sit above them, Da Vinci’s own paintings turned into the premium symbols alongside the diamond icon that carries the game’s name. The full cast on the reels:
- Pink gemstone
- Lime gemstone
- Blue gemstone
- Red gemstone
- Yellow gemstone
- Silver gemstone
- Purple gemstone
- Portrait symbols after Da Vinci’s paintings
- The Da Vinci Diamonds diamond icon
- Bonus symbols
The gemstones are rendered in the same glossy style as the chrome lettering of the title, facets catching the same light the frame does. That visual consistency is the quieter half of the design: nothing on the screen looks imported from a different game. The portraits carry the theme’s weight, and the diamond icon ties the symbol set back to the name on the frame.
Bonus symbols are the ones to watch. Three of them, lined up on a played line, open the free spins round, and they can land during ordinary spins without disturbing anything else on the reels. Everything else in the base game is the steady business of lining stones and portraits up across the 20 lines.
Because the four-row reels put twenty symbol positions on screen at once, a single spin can carry several small line wins stacked alongside each other, and working out which of them paid is a matter of reading the lines from the first reel across. The game marks its wins plainly and moves on. There’s no second-stage feature in the base game: no respins, no cascades, no symbol upgrades after a win resolves.
What that leaves is a base game with a clear rhythm. Line up three or more from the left, collect, repeat. The Bonus symbols are the only interruption, and they’re worth the attention, because the round they open plays by entirely different rules.
Da Vinci Diamonds Free Spins Bonus
Triggering the Bonus
Three Bonus symbols on a played line initiate the Free Spins Bonus. The placement matters: they have to line up, not simply appear. It’s a stricter ask than the scatter-style triggers most modern slots use, and it shapes how the round arrives.
The requirements, in order:
- Three Bonus symbols land on the reels
- They sit together on a single played line
- The Free Spins Bonus then begins
Nothing else in the base game feeds the trigger. There’s no meter to fill, no collection counter, no partial progress carried between spins. The round either arrives or it doesn’t, and the line requirement is the whole gate.
Bonus Win Combinations
Inside the bonus, the win conditions loosen considerably. Three or more of the same symbols appearing anywhere counts as a winning combination, with no left-to-right requirement and no payline needed. The reels stop caring about order, and clusters of matching stones or portraits pay wherever they land.
The rules of the round, plainly:
- Any three or more matching symbols form a win, wherever they sit
- No payline is required
- No left-to-right order is required
- Symbol identity is all that matters, not position
The contrast between the two modes is the whole design. In the base game, position is everything; in the bonus, only presence counts. A screen full of scattered gems that would pay nothing on a regular spin becomes a stack of wins the moment the round starts. With seven gemstone colours plus the portraits all eligible, the anywhere-pays rule gives nearly every symbol on the grid a second job.
That shift also changes what a spin looks like while it resolves. In the base game the eye follows the lines; in the bonus it counts. A third matching stone drifting onto a far reel turns nothing into something, and a fourth or fifth adds to it, which is a different pleasure from watching a payline assemble left to right.
The bonus also inherits the full symbol set unchanged. Nothing is added for the round and nothing is removed: the same seven stones, the same portraits and the same diamond icon all take part, so the paytable a player has learned in the base game is the one that matters when the anywhere-pays rule takes over. The only symbol playing a different role is the Bonus symbol itself, whose job ended the moment it opened the door.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing Da Vinci Diamonds is a lot like walking its gallery: long stretches of quiet rooms, then one painting that stops you. You choose it for that single bonus round, where the strict paylines dissolve and every scattered stone suddenly counts, and when it arrives it genuinely feels like the lights coming on.
That round is the game’s strength, and it’s a real one: paying anywhere is a better idea than most of the modifiers newer slots bolt on. The weakness is the wait. The trigger demands three Bonus symbols in a tidy line, and everything between showings is plain line-matching with nothing stirred in.
It’s for players who like one well-made idea, ornate presentation and rules they can read at a glance; it isn’t for anyone who wants a feature every few spins. The gallery is worth the admission if you’re happy to stroll. Rush past the frames and you’ll only see black walls.
