Dancing Drums Tower Slot Review
Rosy-cheeked children clamber over a stack of painted festival drums in a gilded temple hall, a golden urn spilling light over the reels. All that celebration is doing more work than it lets on, because Dancing Drums Tower hides one of the deepest bonus structures in Light & Wonder’s range behind a five-reel grid that looks about as demanding as a lucky cat.
Light & Wonder built this one around a 5×3 grid with Reel Ways™ pays, a jackpot ladder topped by a 10,000x Grand, and a drum-driven bonus structure that stacks free spins features on top of each other. Sister titles in the studio’s range include Raging Rhino Mighty Ways, Rainbow Riches Megaways and Montezuma. Whether the drums beat loud enough here is the question.
Base Game & Features
Dancing Drums Tower plays out on a 5×3 grid, and wins land through Reel Ways™: matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel across pay, with only the highest combination per way counting. Scatter pays are added on top of ways pays. The result is a game where symbol position matters more than fixed lines.
Underneath that, there’s a lot of machinery per spin. Before the reels start, the game chooses from multiple possible reel sets, so the layout you’re about to see isn’t the only one it can produce. Some reels may also be nudged during the spin.
Before the reels start turning, a number of positions are randomly replaced with Single, Double or Triple Drum symbols. During the spin itself, up to three positions may be swapped for a wild or an Ingot. These replacements are for presentation only; they don’t change what the spin pays.
Two other symbols get in on the movement. The Golden Fish and the Peach can each nudge, but only on one of the first three reels. It’s a small piece of animation attached to the symbols rather than a mechanic with its own payout.
The wild appears only on reels two to four and substitutes for all symbols. It’s also the trigger for the Fu Babies Bonus™, so a single wild anywhere on screen can start a pick game. It doesn’t need to complete a line to do this.
The paying symbols are classic prosperity fare, and the values below are multiples of the total bet:
- Red Lion/Foo Dog: 1x for three, 2x for four, 8x for five
- Ship: 0.5x, 1x, 4x
- Flowers: 0.3x, 0.75x, 2x
- Gold Ingot: 0.25x, 0.5x, 1.5x
- Coins: 0.15x, 0.25x, 1x
- A, K, Q: 0.05x, 0.1x, 0.2x
- J, 10, 9: 0.05x, 0.1x, 0.15x
- Single, Double and Triple Drum scatters: 5x for three, 10x for four, 50x for five
All three drum scatters pay identically, so it doesn’t matter which of them lines up on a scatter win. The gap between the tiers is steep: the Foo Dog pays eight times the stake for five of a kind, while the royals pay a fifth of that at the same count.
The paytable is dynamic and reflects the actual bet configuration, so the on-screen figures track whatever stake is set. Nothing in the symbol values changes as a result; only the currency figures move.
A jackpot ladder sits above the reels: Mini at 25x the bet, Minor at 50x, Major at 800x and Grand at 10,000x. That Grand is the game’s ceiling and its headline prize. A Buy Pass button sits in the corner of the base game screen, though the game doesn’t display its price.
Dancing Drums Tower Free Spins & Fu Babies Bonus
Fu Babies Bonus™
The Fu Babies Bonus™ may trigger if one or more wilds appear on screen. It’s a pick game. A field of fifteen options hides MINI, MINOR, MAJOR and GRAND symbols plus the three drum types.
You keep picking until three matching symbols are revealed. Whatever sits in the corresponding meter is then awarded, so a run of three GRANDs pays the top of the ladder and three MINIs pays the bottom.
Match three of a drum type instead and the corresponding free spins feature plays after the bonus concludes. That makes the pick game a gateway as well as a prize: the jackpot tiers pay immediately, while the drums hand you a longer feature on the way out.
The coins accumulating in the bowl during play look like progress towards a trigger; they aren’t. The bowl is decoration, and the picks themselves are entertainment only. The jackpot lands or it doesn’t.
Drum Free Spins Features
There are three free spins features, one per drum, and each has its own scatter:
- Single Drum Free Spins: three or more scattered Single Drum and/or wild symbols on adjacent reels from the left
- Double Drum Free Spins: three or more scattered Double Drum and/or wild symbols on adjacent reels from the left
- Triple Drum Free Spins: three or more scattered Triple Drum and/or wild symbols on adjacent reels from the left
A wild counts towards any of the three, so a scatter run doesn’t have to be all one drum type. All three features run to the same rules once triggered.
The feature ends when the remaining free games hit zero or when fifty free games have been played. During free spins, the Fu Bat at the top may randomly add a wild to the reels, and it may also trigger the Fu Babies Bonus™.
Retriggers work in an unusual way. A feature triggered while one is already in play queues up and runs after the current one finishes, though neither queued feature can award another.
Four stacked features off one wagered spin is the ceiling. Each of those can run to fifty games, so the theoretical tail of a single spin is long indeed.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Playing Dancing Drums Tower feels like being handed something familiar that keeps revealing extra pockets. The spins are calm, the ways pay quietly, and then a single spin turns into two, three or four free spins features running back to back. That queue is the reason to pick it: a bonus tail that can genuinely run long, under festival colours that never stop being pleasant to sit inside.
The strength is the stacking itself – four features off one wager, each capable of fifty games, is real depth for a game this easy to start. The weakness is everything between bonuses: the regular symbols top out at 8x for five of a kind, and the coin bowl filling on screen promises nothing it can pay. Most spins are waiting, dressed in gold.
It suits the patient player who wants a long bonus chase with a familiar face on it. Anyone after sharp new mechanics or rich base-game wins is better served elsewhere; the temple keeps its treasures behind the drums.
Dancing Drums Tower FAQs
-
How many paylines does Dancing Drums Tower have?
None in the traditional sense. Wins pay through Reel Ways, so any matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel form a win, with only the highest winner paid per combination. Scatter pays are added on top of ways pays. -
What is the grid size of Dancing Drums Tower?
Five reels and three rows. The base game also chooses from multiple possible reel sets before each spin, and some reels may be nudged during the spin. -
Can you buy the bonus on Dancing Drums Tower?
There’s a Buy Pass option in the base game, but the game doesn’t display its price, so the cost can’t be quoted here. -
Who makes Dancing Drums Tower?
Light & Wonder, the studio behind titles including Raging Rhino Mighty Ways, Rainbow Riches Megaways and Montezuma. -
How do you trigger free spins in Dancing Drums Tower?
Land three or more scattered drum symbols, with or without wilds, on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel. Each drum type – Single, Double and Triple – awards its own free spins feature, and a wild can stand in for any of them. -
How does the Fu Babies Bonus work?
One or more wilds on screen may trigger it. You pick from a field of fifteen options until three matching symbols appear – a jackpot tier or a drum type – and the matching meter’s value is awarded. Three matching drums also send you into the corresponding free spins feature afterwards. -
Can free spins retrigger in Dancing Drums Tower?
Yes, in a stacked way. A feature triggered while one is in play queues up and runs after the current one finishes, though neither queued feature can award another. Up to four features can be triggered on a single wagered spin, and each runs until the free games hit zero or fifty games have been played. -
What does the coin bowl in Dancing Drums Tower do?
Nothing at all. The coins accumulating in the bowl over time have no effect on triggering the Fu Babies Bonus, and the picks themselves are for entertainment only – the outcome is settled regardless.
