Dark Waters Power Combo Slot Review
A wrecked galleon lies grounded between rock spires in a fog-bound pirate cove, its rigging dwarfing the lone figure in a tricorn hat on the shore, while carved mermaid figureheads hold the reel frame aloft and firelight glints orange off wet stone below. Dark Waters Power Combo buries nearly everything worth having in one place: the bonus round. The reels themselves barely matter, and the game is built so that three tokens, and which of them fire, decide whether your free spins are a modest collect round or a 46,656-way payout machine. From Just For The Win Studios, it pairs that idea with a 6×4 grid, 4,096 ways, 96.00% RTP and high volatility.
The Power Combo formula isn’t new – Amazing Catch Power Combo and Dark Waters 2 Power Combo run the same engine in different waters – but this remains the family’s sharpest trick.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay when the same symbol appears in succession on adjacent reels from the left, in any position. Only the highest win per way is paid, and simultaneous wins on different ways are added together. It’s a standard ways setup, with one twist: roughly one spin in four connects at all, so the paytable’s work is done in occasional bursts rather than a steady drip.
Wild symbols substitute for everything except money, token and Collect symbols, and a wild substitution pays the highest possible combination on its way. That’s the whole of their job here.
Money Symbols
Money symbols can appear anywhere on the reels in both the base game and free spins, each carrying a random value or prize. They don’t take part in way pays at all, and their only route to a payout is a Collect symbol landing to sweep them up.
- 1x the current bet
- 2x the current bet
- 3x the current bet
- 4x the current bet
- 5x the current bet
- 7x the current bet
- 10x the current bet
- MINI prize: 15x the current bet
- MINOR prize: 40x the current bet
- MAJOR prize: 200x the current bet
- MEGA prize: 5000x the current bet, awarded once per game round at most
Notice the gaps in that ladder. The plain values run 1x to 10x, MINI lifts to 15x, and then the prizes jump by multiples of two and a half, five and twenty-five. A screen of ordinary money symbols with a single Collect is a modest result; the round only changes shape when a named prize lands.
Collect Symbols
In the base game the Collect symbol exists only on reel six. When one lands, the round plays out in three steps: every money symbol on screen has its value or prize added to a single total, that total is paid, and the spin resolves as normal. One Collect, one sum.
Token Symbols
Three different tokens sit on all reels in both the base game and free spins, representing the Giant Reels, Multi-Collect and Golden Reel features. Each landing carries a chance of setting off free spins. The collection pots that fill up beside the reels are purely decorative, and they don’t influence the trigger odds in any way.
Dark Waters Power Combo Free Spins & Power Combo Features
Free spins always start with 10, and what happens next depends on which tokens fired the trigger:
- One token triggers free spins with that single feature active
- Two different tokens landing together run both features from the first spin
- All three different tokens landing together run every feature at once
- A token for a dormant feature landing inside the round can switch that feature on, awarding +3 spins
- A token for an already active feature can also award +3 spins
- Only one dormant feature can wake up per spin
The order of the three features matters less than their combinations, because each one patches a gap the others leave. Collects are stuck on reel six until Multi-Collect frees them, money symbols are scattered until Golden Reel concentrates them, and both want more screen than a 6×4 grid offers.
Giant Reels
The reel area expands from 6×4 to 6×6, lifting the ways to win from 4,096 to 46,656. Straightforward, and quietly the most valuable of the three effects when several money symbols are in play, because there’s suddenly a lot more screen for them to land on. Two extra rows on each of six reels is a multiplication, not an addition, and the way wins scale with it too.
Multi-Collect
Collect symbols may land on any or all reels instead of reel six alone. When several land in one spin, the total of every money symbol on screen is awarded once for each Collect. A grid carrying five Collects over a field of money symbols pays that field five times over.
Golden Reel
On each free spin, one reel from reels two to five is randomly selected and filled with nothing but money symbols. The selection changes every spin, so the golden reel can sit somewhere new on consecutive drops. It’s a guaranteed crop for any Collect that lands, and it pairs best with Multi-Collect, where the same guaranteed reel can be paid out repeatedly.
The prize ladder’s shape is worth pausing on. Below the once-per-round MEGA at 5000x, the next step down is MAJOR at 200x, and below that MINOR at 40x. A big win in this game has exactly one shape, and it’s a rare one.
Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin, and the hit frequency is 26.47%. The win ceiling is the MEGA prize at 5000x the bet, since no round can collect it more than once.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Most of a session on this game is drift. The reels pay their small ways, reel six watches for a Collect, and the pots fill up beside the frame looking busier than they are. The one reason to sit through it is the round at the end: because which tokens fire decides what you’re actually playing, no two bonus rounds here feel like the same game.
That variety is the best thing about it. A Golden Reel feeding a guaranteed strip of money symbols into three or four Collects is where the real money maths lives, and a round that wakes all three features is worth the wait it took to reach. The worst thing is the ladder below it: once the 5000x MEGA is spent or missed, there’s nothing between 200x and the floor, so most rounds pay modestly and only one shape of win is big.
This one’s for players who like a bonus round with genuine variety and can happily spin through a quiet base game to reach it. Anyone who wants the reels themselves to carry the action will find this cove still. For the patient ones, the wreck is worth diving.
