Base Game & Features

Deal With Death is a highly volatile 5-reel, 4-row video slot with 14 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are obtained when 3-5 matching symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1.

In terms of the paytable, the solid-coloured Death Cards, featuring Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, & Clubs, act as the game’s premium symbols, delivering payouts between 1x and 20x your bet. Supporting them are lower-paying Death Cards, which appear in the same suits but with smaller payouts between 0.1x and 3x your bet.

Each game session begins in Classic Mode, which acts as a traditional game with reels, paytable symbols, & pay line wins. Alternatively, Poker Mode is activated when a Joker symbol lands in view.

During Poker Mode, all paytable symbols are transformed into Poker Cards, with each row representing a single Poker Hand to create the best possible combination from the 5 Poker Cards on that row. In this mode, the Power Hand paytable displays what each winning hand is worth, which is between 5x and 2,000x your bet.

Joker Symbols

The Joker symbol acts as a Wild during Classic Mode, substituting for all symbols as part of a winning combination. When a single Joker symbol lands within the base game, the session flips to Poker Mode, where the Joker symbol transforms into one of the following options:

  • Joker: After transformation, this symbol selects the best option for the row upon which it landed.
  • Hand Multiplier Joker: Awards a Poker Multiplier of x2, x3, x4, x5, or x10, which applies to the row where it landed. If more than 1 Poker Multiplier appears on the same row, their values add together before being applied.
  • Global Multiplier Joker: Activates a Global Multiplier that applies to all winning Poker Hands on the reels, up to a maximum of x10. If the Global Multiplier affects a winning Poker Hand with another Multiplier, the values will add together before being applied.
  • Triple Trouble Joker: Triggers a delayed reaction that triggers after all winning Poker Hands are calculated. This symbol transforms into a standard Joker symbol, which picks the best option for the row upon which it landed. After wins are calculated, all Poker Cards are collected & shuffled, while the top three best Poker Hands are dealt back onto the reels & awarded.

Deal With Death: Free Spins

Triggering the Deal With It Bonus requires 3 FS Scatters to land within the base game during Classic Mode, awarding 10 Free Spins.

This mode continues to maintain the same base game interactions, with an increased chance of landing Joker symbols that trigger Poker Mode. Landing a further 2 or 3 FS Scatters during Classic Mode in the bonus awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Dealbreaker

Alternatively, the Dealbreaker Bonus is accessed when 4 FS Scatters land within Classic Mode in the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins.

Again, this mode maintains the same base game mechanics found in the Deal With It Bonus. Additionally, each winning Poker Hand increases the payout for that specific hand by its base win after it’s been awarded. This means the first win is applied at its starting value, increasing for the next time the same Poker Hand wins.

Landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters during Classic Mode in this bonus awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Fool’s Gold

The final Bonus, Fool’s Gold, is classified as a Hidden Bonus. Triggering this mode requires 5 FS Scatters to land in the same manner as the previous two modes, awarding 10 Free Spins.

Following the same mechanics found in the Dealbreaker Bonus, this mode guarantees to land a Joker symbol on every spin, thus triggering Poker Mode. Landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins, respectively.

Featurespins & Bonus Buy

Players may purchase any of the following Featurespins & Bonus Buy options:

  • Bonushunt Featurespins: Each spin is 5 times more likely to trigger a Bonus Mode for 3x your bet per spin
  • Flippin’ Featurespins: Each spin guarantees a Joker symbol to land, thus triggering Poker Mode, for 60x your bet
  • Deal With It: Awards 10 free Spins and an increased chance of landing Joker symbols for 100x your bet
  • Dealbreaker: Awards 10 Free Spins and a progressive Poker Hand Paytable for 200x your bet

Deal With Death has a max win potential of 20,000x your bet. If a single session exceeds this, the player is awarded the total qualifying amount.

Our Honest Verdict

From the very first spin, Deal With Death made quite the impression. The game feels assured, confident, and immediately engaging, fitting in comfortably among Hacksaw Gaming’s most impressive releases this year.

With an exciting lineup of video slots already kickstarting the year, Deal With Death stands out as one of the best so far, thanks to its bold dual-mode concept, slick execution, & dommanding atmosphere.

While it’s unclear why Hacksaw Gaming has suddenly developed a fascination with the mortality theme, recent releases like Circle of Life and Life and Death share the same dark concept & creative fingerprint, which fall under the same death-tinged experience.

The Poker-inspired concept is also one that is slowly working its way into the widermarket, first brought to life by Print Studios’ Deck of Scurra, closely followed by PG Soft with Poker Kingdom Win. Deal With Death feels like a refreshing continuation of this evolving trend, while still retaining signature features & mechanics that players have come to expect from a Hacksaw Gaming release.

In the base game, spins initially take place in Classic Mode, operating as a traditional slot, but the dynamic shifts dramatically each time a Joker symbol hits. Poker Mode transforms symbols into Poker-style hands, each with the potential to award up to 2,000x your bet. This seamless transition between modes not only keeps gameplay engaging but also introduces a heightened sense of anticipation, as each spin carries the potential to evolve into something far more lucrative.

With a glowing 20,000x max win potential on the cards, Deal With Death is clearly built for players who appreciate the risk and reward. What stands out, however, is how attainable this figure feels compared to other titles that boast similar figures. This is largely thanks to the game’s structure & the presentation of 3 distinct Free Spins modes, which significantly boost the win potential when momentum is on your side.

All in all, Deal With Death delivers a blend of atmosphere, innovation, & impactful potential, under the guidance of engaging features, mechanics, and a theme that feels well-executed from start to finish.
