Duel of Night & Day Slot Review
A pyramid cut clean down the middle, sun-baked sandstone on one side and moonlit blue stone on the other: that split is the obvious thing about Duel of Night & Day. The interesting thing is that it isn’t cosmetic. The game pays from both ends of the grid, so the divide on screen is also the divide in the maths, and every tumble chain quietly takes sides.
Pragmatic Play have taken a setting everyone has seen a thousand times and given it an actual composition. It’s a six-reel game with 1,152 ways to win, running at 96.47% RTP with low volatility and stakes from 0.20 to 240.00. No maximum win figure is published anywhere. For more of the studio’s Egyptian ground, Cleocatra and Eye of Cleopatra are the natural pairings, with Gears of Horus the more elaborate option nearby.
Base Game & Features
Six reels sit inside a gilded temple gateway topped with a winged sun motif, on a 5×4 arrangement with variable column heights. Wins are awarded for adjacent symbol combinations reading from either end of the grid, which is what the two multiplier meters hang off. Betting starts at 0.20 and tops out at 240.00 per spin.

Ways and Tumbles
Every winning spin sets off the tumble feature. Winning symbols disappear and empty positions refill with symbols falling from above, and the sequence repeats for as long as new wins keep forming. There’s no cap on the chain, so a single spin can keep paying well after it starts.
The wild lands only on reels two, three, four and five, and substitutes for everything except the scatter, the Sun and the Moon symbols. Scatters can appear on all reels. Three, four, five or six of them trigger the free spins round, and the wild can’t stand in for any of them.
Symbols and Pays
The high end is carried by Nefertiti and the cat, with the scarab, cobra and ace a tier below and the royals propping up the bottom. Two symbols share each tier, so the top payouts come in pairs rather than from a single standout icon. Values per way, as multiples of stake:
- Nefertiti/Queen and Cat: 0.5x for three, 0.6x for four, 0.9x for five, 1x for six
- Scarab Beetle, Cobra and A: 0.3x for three, 0.5x for four, 0.6x for five, 0.75x for six
- K, Q and J: 0.3x for three, 0.4x for four, 0.5x for five, 0.6x for six

Sun and Moon Multipliers
This is the game’s own idea. Two meters sit either side of the reels, Sun on the left and Moon on the right, and either can hit at random during spins and tumbles in the base game and the bonus round. A Sun hit adds 1x to the Sun meter, a Moon hit adds 1x to the Moon meter.
The Sun multiplier applies to wins reading left to right and the Moon multiplier to wins reading right to left. If a tumble sequence produces wins in both directions, the payout is multiplied by the sum of the two meters rather than either one alone.
In the base game the meters reset between spins, so the sums only build inside a single tumble chain. Each spin starts from zero, and everything the meters gain has to arrive within one tumble sequence before it’s wiped again.

Ante Bet
Two bet multipliers are on offer. The 20x multiplier is normal play. Switching to 30x increases the chance of triggering free spins and adds more scatters to the reels, and it disables the bonus buy while it’s active.
A Double Chance to Win Feature toggle also sits in the interface, doubling the bet for an increased chance of hitting the feature. It’s a separate switch from the Ante Bet, doing similar work at a different price.
Duel of Night & Day Free Spins & Bonus Features
Free Spins
Three, four, five or six scatters award ten free spins, played on special reels that differ from the base game’s set. Both multiplier meters start at 2x and, unlike the base game, they persist and climb for the whole round. The amount each hit adds depends on how many scatters triggered it:
- 3 scatters: each hit adds 2x
- 4 scatters: each hit adds 4x
- 5 scatters: each hit adds 6x
- 6 scatters: each hit adds 8x
The scatter count matters twice over, then: it decides the round’s increments and, at six scatters, makes each hit worth four times what a three-scatter trigger manages. Landing three or more scatters during the round retriggers it for ten additional spins.
Both-direction wins still multiply by the sum of the two meters, so a long round with both meters climbing is where the game’s real potential sits. A retrigger extends exactly that window.
The Multiplier Gamble
Before the round starts there’s an option to gamble the starting multiplier upward, stage by stage, up to 8x. Lose a stage and the round begins at the level you were gambling from. The odds improve as you climb:
- 2x to 4x: 60.47% chance
- 4x to 6x: 69.70% chance
- 6x to 8x: 76.75% chance

Buy Free Spins
The round can be bought outright from the base game for 120x the current total bet. On the triggering spin, three, four, five or six scatters hit at random, so a bought round can still land the higher scatter counts and their bigger per-hit increments. At the top of the stake range that’s a considerable outlay in absolute terms.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Playing it feels like watching two small engines run in parallel and waiting for them to connect. Most spins, one side of the grid pays, one meter ticks up, and that’s your lot. The reason to pick this one over the hundred other Egyptian slots is the moment a tumble chain pays both ways at once and the meters add together, with the sun and moon briefly working as a team.
The bonus round is the strength, because the meters finally stick around and climb instead of resetting, and the gamble ladder in front of it improves your odds the further you push. The weakness is everything around it: the pays are modest, the base game resets its best idea every spin, and with low volatility and no ceiling, even the good rounds stay polite.
This one’s for a slow, steady session where the charm of the mechanic carries the run, and for anyone who likes a bonus that rewards patience rather than luck. It isn’t for anyone after a big swing. But there’s genuine appeal in a game where night and day each get a fair innings, and neither side hogs the reels.
