As the sun retreats, the sky reveals its secrets. Princess Luna, guardian of dusk, woven in twiglight’s glow, calls the constellations forward and settles the moon into celestial sanctuary. From the edges of the night, the Dusk Princess rises, ruling over the shadows of starlight.

Dusk Princess from Hacksaw Gaming is the newest chapter in the successful ‘Princess’ lineup, transforming what began as a standalone release into a compelling series that continues to captivate players in more ways than one.

Cloud Princess, which debuted in 2024, immediately stood out for its Anime art style, distinctive Scatter Pays mechanic, and variety of features & Free Spins modes. The subsequent arrival of Sun Princess quickly established Hacksaw Gaming’s bigger plan for future releases.

Thanks to Dusk Princess, the collection evolves once again, introducing a darker aesthetic while continuing the foundations laid by its predecessors, but will the same be said for gameplay?

Dusk Princess: Base Game

Base Game & Features

Dusk Princess features a 6×5 Grid with Cluster pay mechanics, meaning wins are triggered whenever 5 or more of the same symbols appear anywhere within a cluster of at least 5 symbols. This differs from its predecessor, which used a Scatter Pays system.

Dusk Princess has 10 paying symbols. The lowest values range from 0.10x to 5x the bet, while the top symbol pays 1x to 150x the bet.

Like its predecessor, Dusk Princess features cascades. When a winning combination occurs, all regular paying symbols of the type that were part of the winning combination are removed from the grid, as are symbols of the same type elsewhere. New symbols then fall into fill the empty spaces.

Blessing Bar

A Blessing Bar is located outside the grid, which awards Wild symbols and Multipliers on those Wild symbols when full. When a winning combination lands on the grid, the Blessing Bar will start to fill. An 8-symbol win is needed to fill the Blessing Bar the first time.

Then the amount of winning symbols needed will increase by +2 symbols each time you fill the Bar. The Blessing Bar will reset between spins if only partially filled.

When the Blessing Bar is full, it activates and then resets. When activated, the Blessing Bar awards Wild symbols with a Multiplier value each. On the first activation, the Blessing Bar will start with an award of 3 Wild symbols.

The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols in the paytable. When a Wild symbol is part of a win, the Multiplier value is added to all wins connected to that Wild symbol. If more than one Wild symbol with a Multiplier is part of the same winning combination, the values are added together before being applied to the win.

Additionally, the Blessing Bar, awarded Wild Symbols, and Multipliers are progressive throughout the round. The awarded symbols start at 3, and the multiplier value will start at 2x.

The Lunar Court

The Lunar Court is activated with 4 Scatter Symbols.

Our Honest Verdict

Dusk Princess follows on nicely from Cloud Princess, Rainbow, and Sun Princess; the fourth brings about what feels like a natural conclusion weather-wise, unless we’re due some sort of fifth…Overcast with a small chance of light drizzle Princess, perhaps? We’re available for game ideas, should Hacksaw want or need us.

Anyway, Dusk Princess is a great option. It’s a Cluster Pays slot and a reliable one at that. It focuses on the features that matter rather than a variety of them, namely, Wild Symbols. Many other cluster pay slots dress weaker features up as features when, really, they just kill the momentum. This aims to do no such thing, and it results in a fairly simple yet effective offering.

Personally, we were quite fond of Sun Princess and its Chain Reaction Feature. Of all of them, we think that remains our favourite, but there are plenty of cases to be made for this and others in the catalogue, and personal preference will of course vary.

It’s a typical Hacksaw staple with different bonus rounds, including a majorly exciting Hidden Bonus and a sizeable yet somewhat standard 10,000x win cap.

All in all, we think Dusk Princess stands out as a notable release in the series. Not perhaps the best yet, but amply enticing enough.
