Fire Stampede Slot Review
A bison wreathed in flame looks out over a sun-scorched canyon at dusk, embers drifting off its mane into a deepening blue sky. All that fire on the flank is show. The heat in Fire Stampede runs through the grid instead: along chains of linked symbols that cross five reels and collect whatever they touch, while the paytable beneath them is close to decorative. Five buffalos, the best line in the game, pays 5x. A chain reaching the right position can collect 800x. This is a game built so the routes between symbols matter more than the symbols, and it commits to that idea completely.
It’s a Pragmatic Play build on a 5×5 grid with a sixth reel of special symbols running alongside, 1,875 ways to win, 96.00% RTP and low volatility, with the GRAND award of 4,000x total bet the biggest prize on the board. The idea was pushed further in Fire Stampede 2 and again in Fire Stampede Ultimate; the original is the gentler version of it.
Base Game & Features
Five reels of five rows sit in a dark timber-and-steel cabinet with bolted corners and rivets along its edges, like a piece of frontier ironwork. Behind the grid, layered red rock bluffs and a pale sandy wash run out to the horizon. Wins pay across 1,875 ways, so matching symbols anywhere on consecutive reels from the left will pay. The sixth reel next to the grid carries only special symbols and never part of a line.
Wilds appear on reels 2, 3 and 4 and stand in for any paying symbol. They don’t pay on their own.
Connect & Collect
The engine of the game. Connect & Collect symbols link up when they sit adjacent to one another, horizontally or vertically, and the chain has to run left to right. If it reaches a special position on reel 3 or reel 6, the award sitting on that position is paid out.
Those special positions carry several different awards, and a single chain can only claim what it touches. A long chain crossing the grid is worth more than anything the paytable can manage.
Money Values
A money award on a special position pays a random value from a fixed set of 21 possibilities:
- 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 16x, 20x total bet
- 30x, 40x, 50x, 60x, 80x, 100x, 120x, 160x, 200x total bet
- 300x, 400x and 800x total bet
The top of that ladder is where the game’s real money sits, and it’s a long way above anything five buffalos can manage. Everything between the rungs steps up in small increments, so a chain’s destination matters far more than its length.
Respins
A special position on reel 3 can trigger a respin round at random when a chain reaches it. Five respins are awarded, and every Connect & Collect symbol from the triggering spin locks in place. Reels 1 to 5 respin everything else.
Any Connect & Collect symbol that lands during the round also sticks, and it stays locked until the respins run out. The game then pays for all connections at once, so a round that builds a chain across all five respins settles everything in a single payout. A stalled grid gets five more chances to matter.
Fixed Awards
Chains can also reach three fixed prizes on the special positions:
- MINOR – 25x total bet
- MAJOR – 200x total bet
- GRAND – 4,000x total bet
The GRAND sits above even the top money value, at five times the 800x rung. It can also arrive without a chain at all, which brings us to the random awards.
Random Awards
Outside the chains, the base game hands out three kinds of unannounced help:
- The GRAND award can drop at random at the end of any base game spin
- Wilds added to random non-special positions
- Extra Connect & Collect symbols added to random non-special positions
The random symbol drops are the quiet ones worth watching, since a chain that was one symbol short can be completed by a drop rather than a spin. The paytable itself is thin:
- Buffalo – 0.5x for two, 1x for three, 2x for four, 5x for five
- Gold Nugget – 0.5x for three, 1x for four, 2x for five
- Eagle – 0.4x for three, 0.6x for four, 1.25x for five
- Cactus – 0.25x for three, 0.5x for four, 1.25x for five
- A – 0.2x for three, 0.4x for four, 1x for five
- K, Q – 0.15x for three, 0.3x for four, 0.75x for five
- J, 10, 9 – 0.1x for three, 0.25x for four, 0.5x for five
Only the buffalo pays for a two-symbol match, and even that’s half your stake back. Every other symbol needs three or more, and the royals cluster together at the bottom, with J, 10 and 9 all paying identically.
Fire Stampede Free Spins & Bonus Rounds
Free Spins
There are two routes in. Hitting 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols awards 7, 10 or 15 free spins respectively. Alternatively a chain can reach a Free Spins award on a special position, which carries a random award of 7, 10, 15, 20 or 25 spins.
Triggering either way also pays 2x total bet. If a scatter trigger and a collected Free Spins symbol land together, the spins stack: everything on the symbol plus the scatter award. Special reels are in play during the round, and Connect & Collect works exactly as it does in the base game.
That’s the whole design. The bonus doesn’t reinvent the grid, it just gives the chains more room to run, with the sixth reel feeding special symbols throughout.
Buy Free Spins
The round can be bought outright for 100x total bet. The purchase is unusual in what it guarantees: the triggering spin is certain to form a chain long enough to reach the special positions on reel 3 and at least one position on reel 6.
During a bought trigger, reel 6 contains only Free Spins symbols carrying random spin amounts, so the buy always lands the feature and always with a reel-6 hand in it. What those spins then collect is up to the chains.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
This is a slow-burn game, and the burning bison on its flank is honest about that. You pick it because you want to watch chains creep across a grid, knowing most of them die one symbol short, and because low volatility means the waiting doesn’t cost much. Sessions here are long stretches of almost, punctuated by the round where everything links up.
The respins are the best thing in it. A stalled spin gets five more chances with its symbols locked, so a grid that looked dead can still pay, and that rescue keeps the quiet stretches from feeling empty. The reels themselves are the problem: five buffalos, the best the game offers, returns 5x, so anyone lining up symbols for their own sake is playing the wrong title.
It’s for the patient sort who enjoys a system ticking over and trusts the chains to do the paying. If your wins should come from the symbols rather than the routes between them, the prairie here runs quiet. For everyone else, this is a gentle, well-made build of a good idea, and the steady embers suit it.
