Flippin’ Fish Slot Review
Half of Flippin’ Fish sits above the waterline and half below it, the horizon splitting the screen between snow-capped peaks and a turquoise lake lit by sunbeams. The gamble Gamomat have taken is that the fish can carry the whole game on their own: every fish symbol you land in the base game is worthless until the moment it isn’t, and the entire slot is built on how long you’ll wait for that switch to flip.
Underneath, it’s a simple game. Flippin’ Fish runs on a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines, medium volatility and a 96.13% RTP, with a feature set of exactly two items. You’ll recognise the stripped-back approach if you know their other recent work, such as Book Of Madness Deluxe or Hexwood. Fewer moving parts than Carnival of Madness, and a lake you can see yourself sitting beside.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a conventional 10-line setup. Wins pay left to right across the five reels, only the highest combination on a line counts, and there’s no cluster or scatter-pay mechanic hiding underneath. Gamomat haven’t reinvented anything here, and they haven’t tried to.
What the base game does carry is the fish. Fish symbols appear across the grid carrying multiplier values, and they’re the game’s currency for the bonus features. The values that show up on the reels are:
- 1x multiplier fish
- 2x multiplier fish
- 3x multiplier fish
- 4x multiplier fish
- 5x multiplier fish
- 10x multiplier fish
Those values sit dormant in the base game until the fisherman gets involved, which is where the two features come in. The fisherman character collects bonus symbols and applies a multiplier to them, and the scatter symbols that also land on the reels open the door to the Free Games round. Between them, the feature set looks like this:
- Scatter Free Games, triggered by scatter symbols landing on the reels
- The fisherman collect, triggered by the fisherman appearing and gathering the bonus symbols in view
- Multiplier fish values of 1x up to 10x, attached to the bonus symbols he collects
- No bonus buy, no pick’em game and no jackpot ladder anywhere in the game
Worth being clear about what’s absent, because it shapes every session. There’s no bonus buy, so the only route into the Free Games is landing scatters the ordinary way. There’s no separate pick’em game, no wheel, no hold-and-win screen. Everything the game pays flows through the reels, the fish and the fisherman, and that’s the whole toolkit.
In visual terms, the reels sit right on the waterline, with the sky, forest and mountains above and the deepening blue below. It’s bright, glossy cartoon work in summer-holiday colours, and the underwater half is the more distinctive of the two. The tone is consistent all the way through: nothing here is trying to be dark or elaborate.
The 10 paylines are fixed, so every spin covers all of them and the only decision is the stake size. Gamomat haven’t published a minimum or maximum bet for the game, so the range you see will depend on where you play it. Medium volatility sits the game in the middle of the road: wins come often enough to keep a balance ticking over, without the long quiet stretches a high-variance fishing slot would impose.
Flippin’ Fish Free Games & Bonus Features
Scatter Free Games
Scatters landing on the reels trigger the Free Games round. That’s the whole trigger, and it’s an honest one: no collection meter, no charging bar, no second condition stacked on top. The scatters appear during normal play, and the round they open is the game’s headline feature.
Inside the round, the fish symbols and their multiplier values become the main event. The Free Games exist to put more of them on the grid at once, which is a simple premise but a workable one. A spin that lands several fish at the higher end of the value range pays considerably more than the same spin in the base game, and that scaling is the entire point of the round.
The payout logic inside the round is worth spelling out. Each fish carries its own multiplier value, and the round pays on the strength of what lands, not on fixed line combinations of the ordinary symbols. That makes every free spin a question of how many fish arrive and how high their values run: a grid with three or four of the bigger fish in view is a materially different result to a grid with none.
The Fisherman Collect & Multiplier
The second feature is the fisherman. When he appears, he collects the bonus symbols on the reels and adds a multiplier to them, so every fish in view gets swept up and paid with the multiplier applied. It’s a collect mechanic of the kind fishing slots have used for years, and Gamomat keep it clean: fish in view, fisherman collects, multiplier applied.
Run as a sequence, it goes like this:
- Fish symbols land on the grid, each carrying a multiplier value from 1x at the bottom to 10x at the top
- The fisherman appears on the reels
- Every bonus symbol in view is gathered up rather than paid as an ordinary line win
- His multiplier is applied to the total of what he’s collected
- The combined amount is paid out as the feature’s win
Because the fish values span a tenfold range, the same fisherman appearance can pay very differently depending on which fish happened to be on the grid. A collect of three 1x fish and a collect of three 10x fish are the same event mechanically, an order of magnitude apart in what lands. The multiplier applied on top stretches that range further still.
The two features feed each other. The fish that drift through the base game doing nothing much become valuable the moment the fisherman arrives, and the Free Games round is where those arrivals are concentrated. Between the two, that’s the entire feature set.
Flippin’ Fish gives no maximum win figure. The arithmetic of the ceiling is straightforward enough, though: the biggest possible collect is built from the highest fish values across all fifteen positions, with the fisherman’s multiplier on top of that.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Flippin’ Fish is a waiting game you watch rather than a slot you work, and the lake is the reason you’ll stay watching. The split waterline, the sunbeams, the fish drifting past doing nothing until suddenly they’re worth something: it’s built to be sat beside, and it earns that.
Its strength is that the fish give every single spin a stake in the outcome, even the dull ones. Its weakness is everything else: there are exactly two features, no bonus buy, and nothing new to find after the first session.
It’s for players who enjoy a slow afternoon by calm water and don’t need a bonus round every five minutes. It’s not for anyone who wants layers, modes or surprises, and the fish alone won’t change that mind. As a small, honest game with a lovely view, though, it’s an easy one to like.
