Floating Dragon – Year of the Snake Slot Review
A crimson sky full of drifting lanterns, a snow-capped peak catching the last light: Floating Dragon – Year of the Snake is one of the prettiest reels Pragmatic Play have painted, and almost none of its money is where the beauty is. The line pays are pocket change; the game is built around one collection round and doesn’t hide it. The numbers are sound – low volatility, a 96.71% RTP, a 5×3 grid across 10 paylines, stakes from 0.10 to 250.00.
It shares its bloodline with Floating Dragon Wild Horses, which ran the same coins-and-wilds idea at a brisker pace. Here the stroll replaces the march. The real money sits in free spins, where wilds sweep up coin values and a ladder of retriggers climbs; everything before it is scenery, and very handsome scenery at that.
Base Game & Features
Five reels, three rows and ten fixed paylines, with only the highest combination on each line counting towards a win. The premium symbols lean hard into the theme: gold ingots stacked with coins, a bulging gold pouch, red lanterns and sealed scroll envelopes. Below them sit a money coin and the usual royal run of A, K, Q, J and 10. A wild stands in for the regular symbols.
For a low-volatility game, the pays are modest at the top and drop off quickly. Five of the best symbol returns 200x your line bet, and the royals pay pocket change from there.
- Gold ingot / coin stack – 0.5x for two, 5x for three, 20x for four, 200x for five
- Gold pouch – 3x for three, 15x for four, 100x for five
- Red lantern / scroll envelope – 2x for three, 10x for four, 50x for five
- Money coin – 1x for three, 5x for four, 20x for five
- A / K – 0.2x for three, 2.5x for four, 10x for five
- Q / J / 10 – 0.2x for three, 1x for four, 5x for five
Scatters pay nothing on the reels themselves; their only job is to unlock the feature round. Land two of them short and the game sometimes lends a hand, which is where the personality lives.
Floating Dragon – Year of the Snake Free Spins & Bonus Features
Free Spins
Three, four or five scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free spins respectively. Two scatters aren’t always the end of it: scatters can move down without leaving the reel area and trigger a respin, or a snake can pull a reel upwards to reveal a third scatter. It’s a small touch, but it keeps near-misses interesting.
Before the round begins, up to five modifiers are selected at random to shape it:
- More Coins
- More Ladies
- More Dynamites, Snakes or Firecrackers
- Level Up
- Extra Free Spins
Money Symbols & Wild Collection
Coins are money symbols, and each takes a random value on every spin. During free spins, every wild on screen collects all coin values in view, and collected wilds accumulate until the round ends. Every fourth wild collected retriggers the feature with 10 more free spins and a bigger collection multiplier.
- First retrigger – collection multiplier rises to 2x
- Second – 3x
- Third – 10x
- After the fourth level – the feature can no longer retrigger
Retriggered spins play out once the current batch finishes, with the new multiplier applied to them. The coin values themselves are where the ceiling comes from:
- 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x, 1666x, 2500x or 5000x total bet
Should the total win of a free spins round reach 5,000x the bet, the round ends immediately, the win is paid and all remaining spins are forfeited. That cap is the game’s ceiling, and it needs the full ladder climbed to get anywhere near it.
Dynamite, Snake & Firecracker Features
Three random features patch the gaps a round can develop. With wilds on screen but no money symbols, a dynamite spin can plant coins in random positions. With money on screen but no wilds, a snake appears and pulls a random reel up to bring wilds into view. And with wilds but no money, firecrackers can go off and change every symbol on screen except the wilds.
Between them, a round rarely stalls for long. One symbol short of a collection is the failure mode these features exist to fix, and they fix it from several angles.
Ante Bet & Bonus Buy
The ante bet raises the stake multiplier from 10x to 15x. In exchange, the chance of triggering free spins is higher and more scatters are present on the reels. While it’s running, the bonus buy is switched off.
Otherwise the round can be bought outright for 100x the total bet. The triggering spin of a purchased round can still land three, four or five scatters at random, so a bought entry can begin with more than the minimum ten spins.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
You spend this game waiting, and the waiting is pleasant: a gentle drip of small line wins beneath the prettiest lanterns in the studio’s catalogue, all of it a runway towards one collection round. That round is the single reason to be here, and at low volatility you reach it without the bankroll taking punishment on the way.
The strength is that the round keeps its promises: the rescue features mean a promising spin rarely dies of a missing symbol, and a round that climbs the multiplier ladder pays properly twice over. The weakness is the base game – the pays top out at 200x, so the spins between features are pocket money, and the artwork is doing a lot of the entertaining.
It suits a patient player who likes a slow, steady build and doesn’t need drama between bonuses. Anyone chasing swings or a hot base game should look elsewhere, and this slot won’t mind. For the rest, the lanterns stay lit and the climb is always one wild away from starting.
