Gemine Slot Review
Down a timber-framed mine shaft, crystals glow teal and purple against pale blue rock, and chains hang from a ceiling that never quite comes into view. Gemine, from Pragmatic Play, dresses its 8×8 cluster grid beautifully – but the interesting thing about it is how much of the game sits behind one meter. This is a slot that saves nearly everything for its bonus ladder, and the base game is mostly a slow dig towards it.
It plays as clusters of five or more connected symbols with tumbles, in the company of Gems Bonanza, Sugar Rush and Gates of Olympus. The RTP is 96.55%, dipping to 96.51% on the buy, volatility is high, and stakes run from 0.20 to 100.00. The deepest seams here take the longest to reach.
The 8×8 Grid and How It Pays
Every symbol pays in blocks of at least five connected symbols, linked horizontally or vertically anywhere on the 8×8 grid. A cluster is a cluster wherever it lands.
When multiple blocks win at once, all of them are added together, and only the highest combination counts per block. That rewards big, single-shape clusters over scattered ones.
Wins trigger the Tumble Feature, and a single spin resolves in a fixed sequence:
- Winning combinations are paid and all winning symbols disappear. The remaining symbols fall to the bottom of the screen. Empty positions are filled with new symbols from above. If the new layout produces another win, or a spin feature, the tumble repeats. Everything is added to the balance once the final tumble and any spin features finish.
A single spin can therefore chain several wins together, and that chaining matters more here than in most cluster games. The wild is a miner symbol that substitutes for everything. It only ever appears through the Wild Miner and Lucky Miner features, never on a plain spin, and one wild can join several different winning clusters at once.
Symbol pays are expressed in coins and multiplied by the base bet, so every figure below scales with the stake. Each symbol has nine pay tiers, from five connected symbols up to the 25-64 block at the top:
- Red gem – 2.00 for five, 3.00 for six, 5.00 for seven, 10.00 for eight, 25.00 for 9-11, 50.00 for 12-14, 100.00 for 15-19, 400.00 for 20-24, 2,000.00 for 25-64 Green gem – 1.00 for five, 1.50 for six, 2.50 for seven, 5.00 for eight, 15.00 for 9-11, 25.00 for 12-14, 50.00 for 15-19, 200.00 for 20-24, 1,000.00 for 25-64 Blue pentagon – 0.60 for five, 1.00 for six, 1.50 for seven, 2.50 for eight, 7.50 for 9-11, 15.00 for 12-14, 30.00 for 15-19, 100.00 for 20-24, 600.00 for 25-64 Cyan gem – 0.50 for five, 0.60 for six, 0.80 for seven, 1.50 for eight, 5.00 for 9-11, 10.00 for 12-14, 20.00 for 15-19, 50.00 for 20-24, 300.00 for 25-64 Pink gem – 0.40 for five, 0.50 for six, 0.80 for seven, 1.20 for eight, 4.00 for 9-11, 7.50 for 12-14, 15.00 for 15-19, 40.00 for 20-24, 200.00 for 25-64 Purple gem – 0.30 for five, 0.40 for six, 0.60 for seven, 1.00 for eight, 3.00 for 9-11, 5.00 for 12-14, 10.00 for 15-19, 30.00 for 20-24, 150.00 for 25-64 Yellow gem – 0.20 for five, 0.30 for six, 0.40 for seven, 0.70 for eight, 2.00 for 9-11, 4.00 for 12-14, 7.50 for 15-19, 20.00 for 20-24, 100.00 for 25-64
Spin Features: Mining, Wild Miner, Squares, Super Gems and Lucky Miner
On every base game spin, five coloured markings – one of each type – can appear behind symbols in random positions. Land a win on top of a marked spot and its feature fires once the tumbles from that spin finish. The colour determines what you get.
- Blue mark – Mining: the screen is cleared completely and fresh symbols drop in. Purple mark – Wild Miner: every instance of one random symbol on screen turns wild. Yellow mark – Squares: random 2×2 blocks of a single symbol are added to the screen. Red mark – Super Gems: one random block of 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 matching symbols is added. Green mark – Lucky Miner: between 5 and 15 wilds are scattered across the screen in random positions.
When several marks win on the same spin, the features play in a fixed order:
- Mining Wild Miner Squares Super Gems Lucky Miner
No dice, no picking. The order never changes.
The Gems Feature
Every winning symbol that explodes during tumbles feeds a meter, and the meter’s rules are strict:
- Only winning symbols that explode during tumbles are counted as points. The target is 114 points from a single base game spin, including its tumbles and spin features. If a tumble produces no winning symbols, the meter resets to zero. Once the target is hit, the round begins after that spin’s tumbles and spin features finish.
That reset is what shapes the whole game. Chaining tumbles is the only way to build progress, and one dead tumble wipes it out. The feature itself is a five-level ladder, where all five spin modifiers are guaranteed to play once each per level, in order, and every win carries a multiplier that grows as you climb:
- Level 1 – entry level, x2 win multiplier on all wins Level 2 – collect 116 winning symbols, x4 win multiplier Level 3 – collect 120 winning symbols, x6 win multiplier Level 4 – collect 124 winning symbols, x8 win multiplier Level 5 – collect 132 winning symbols, x10 win multiplier
The round ends in one of two ways:
- A level’s collection target is missed, and there aren’t enough winning symbols to advance. All spin features from level 5 have been played out.
Wins are awarded once the whole cycle completes, and the feature’s total win in the history covers the entire run from level 1 onwards.
Buy Gems Feature
Impatient miners can skip the meter entirely. The Gems Feature can be bought from the base game for 100x the current total bet, and it starts once the tumbles and spin features of the triggering spin have finished.
The bought round runs the same level ladder as the natural version:
- Price: 100x the current total bet RTP when buying: 96.51% Level 2: collect 116 winning symbols, x4 win multiplier Level 3: collect 120 winning symbols, x6 win multiplier Level 4: collect 124 winning symbols, x8 win multiplier Level 5: collect 132 winning symbols, x10 win multiplier
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Playing Gemine feels like shifting rock for long stretches, then hitting a vein. The tumbles and the coloured marks keep the base game busy, but the wins that matter all live in the Gems Feature, and the one reason to pick this over prettier cluster games is that ladder: guaranteed modifiers every level, multipliers climbing from x2 to x10, and a level 5 that plays out in full once you get there. It’s structure, not luck, and that’s rarer than it should be.
The problem is getting there. One tumble without a win and 114 points vanish, so the natural route can be a long, empty dig between rounds. Players who enjoy building towards something will find this mine worth their headlamp. Anyone after quick, frequent bonuses will run out of patience at the shaft entrance.
