Play’n GO are back yet again for yet another release in their Reactoonz series of slots with Gigantoonz!

2022 is upon us, and it’s hard to fathom that the original Reactoonz released back in 2017. Reactoonz took the gaming world by storm with cute, loveable creatures and incredible potential, but something interesting happened when it came to the sequels…they were worse. Not many people know, but Reactoonz actually followed on from an original called Energoonz, and it excelled as a better slot in every single sense, but maybe it was too good?

It hurts to say, because we love Play’n GO and their slots, but neither Reactoonz 2 or Dr Toonz has had quite the impact that the original had, and still has today. Can Gigantoonz do what others before it couldn’t? Will Gigantoonz be the Reactoonz sequel that we deserve? Let’s find out.

Gigantoonz is undeniably a Reactoonz series slot, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’ve accidentally clicked on one of the older games.

The main alien that we affectionately know as Garga sits on his perch beside the reels, and the only real notable differences are the other giant symbols on the reels and the addition of a new red symbol, which looks weirdly like a Mcdonald’s happy meal box.

Gigantoonz Betting and Symbols

Gigantoonz has a variety of betting options for players to choose from. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet Gigantoonz offers is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two.

The highest paying regular symbol in Gigantoonz is the Red Alien, followed by the Pink, Green, Orange and Blue Aliens. Lower paying symbols fall to a selection of smaller coloured Aliens. The smaller Blue Alien has the highest pay value, followed by the Purple, Brown, Green and Yellow Aliens.

Gigantoonz Base Game and Features

Gigantoonz is an 8×8 Video Slot with a Cluster Pays mechanic. In order to form a win you will need to connect 6 or more of the same smybols either Horizontally or Vertically.

Gigantoonz features Cascading Reels. Each time a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will disappear from the grid and new symbols will fall from above, filling all the empty positions and possibly creating even more winning combinations.

Like the previous ‘Toonz’ slots before this, Gigantoonz has a feature that involves the random appearance of Quantum Wilds, not only this but Gigantoonz also features Mega Symbols. Our favorite little monsters are not so little anymore! More on these below.

Quantum Wilds

During any random non-winning spin in the base game, Quantum Wilds can be awarded.

Once this happens, anywhere between 5 and 10 Quantum Wilds can be added onto the grid at any one time, in random positions.

Mega Symbols

During the base game, you will more than likely come across Mega Symbols.

Mega symbols can appear in 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6 and 7×7 symbol sizes. Each Mega symbol comes equipped with a randomized cluster value, up to x13.

When it comes to forming winning combinations, all Mega symbols act as 1 single symbol, but its cluster value is taken into consideration when determining the payout of the winning cluster. Each Mega symbol that is used as part of a winning combination, leaves a Quantum Wild in a random position on the grid.

If a Mega symbol cannot drop down, it will fill all the empty positions around it with the same 1×1 symbol versions instead, minus any cluster values.

Gigantoonz Quantum Wilds Feature

Gigantoonz: Quantumeter

Similar to Reactoonz, Gigantoonz features a Quantumeter which is being looked after by a rather sleepy Gargantoonz. This feature can be considered as a substitute for Free Spins.

Each symbol that is part of a winning combination counts as 1 charge on the Quantumeter. However, Mega symbols add their cluster values instead.

In order to wake Gargantoonz from his slumber, you will need to collect 100 winning symbols. The Quantumeter has 4 unique feature levels, and each level requires a certain amount of winning symbols to activate each feature.

  • Disintegration – Collect 25 Charges to trigger this feature – Removes all instances of 4 randomly chosen symbols.
  • Metamorphosis – Collect 50 Charges to trigger this feature – Transforms all instances of 1 random symbol into a different symbol, including Mega symbols.
  • Radiation – Collect 75 Charges to trigger this feature – Adds anywhere between 1 and 4 Mega symbols and 2 – 5 Quantum Wilds at random.

Gargantoonz Feature

Gargantoonz is the 4th and final level of the Quantumeter. The Gargantoonz feature is played out in 2 sections.

First, all Mega symbols present turn into Mega Gargantoonz. A minimum of 3 Gargantoonz will appear regardless of how many Mega symbols are present. In addition to this, between 2 and 4 1×1 Gargantoonz will appear. All Mega Gargantoonz are not removed with each win.

Finally, all Mega Gargantoonz break down into 1×1 sized Gargantoonz, which are then removed normally.

Gargantoon Wilds will only appear through the Quantumeter.

Gigantoonz Our Verdict

Most of us by now have become accustomed to Play’n GO’s ‘Toonz’ series and the nitty gritty of how the games work, so apart from the giant-sized Mega symbols, what else is new? Not a whole lot in all honesty. The Mega symbols are a fantastic way to spice up an old favourite, but you cant help but feel a little cheated when you come across these in the base game.

At first you’ll be all excited when you see one of those gigantic Mega symbols land on your screen, but that soon turns to utter disappointment when you’re sat there wandering why its not connecting to any wins. Sadly those glorious Mega symbols only amount to 1 instance of that symbol!

We like Gigantoonz, but it just seems like yet another that fails to fill the boots of the original Reactoonz game. The symbols may be mega, but other parts of Gigantoonz like the maximum win potential doesn’t quite qualify as mega at 4,000x. It seems exceedingly hard to get to the top level, which was certainly true of the other games too in all fairness.

Overall, many may think that Gigantoonz excels as an improvement, but we’ve a feeling that many will still stand by the original Reactoonz.

The question is…is Play’n GO done with the  Reactoonz series now? or will they continue to capitalise on the success of previous titles with further (and not as good) sequels?
