Gold Wired Slot Review
Most cash-collect slots make the mistake of paying out too readily: cash symbols land, a collector sweeps, and the round ends before it has meant anything. Gold Wired takes the opposite risk, burying nearly everything of value behind a reel 5 symbol, a ten-token meter and a jackpot ladder you can only climb inside its bonus rounds. Whether that restraint is craft or friction is the question this review takes a position on.
The prizes top out at a jackpot ladder rather than a headline multiplier, and the game prints no maximum win figure anywhere in its own screens. That absence shapes the whole review: everything here is about climbing the ladder, not chasing a single number.
Underneath all of that sits a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines, a 96.01% RTP, medium volatility and a hit frequency of 25.11%. The studio has a solid track record here, having previously produced Cossacks: The Wild Hunt, Blazin’ Rails and Andvari The Golden Fish, with review scores across their catalogue ranging from 6.8 to 9.
How this one rates within that band depends almost entirely on your tolerance for waiting, which is most of what Foxium have built here.
Stakes run from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin. Line wins pay left to right from the leftmost reel, and if several winning combinations land on a single payline, only the highest one is paid.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a classic fruit-machine set: 7s, gold bars, bells and BAR symbols at the top end, with A, K, Q, J and 10 filling the lower reaches. It’s a familiar ladder, and the paytable below shows exactly what each tier returns at the initial bet.
- 7 – 4x for three, 6x for four, 10x for five
- Gold Bars – 3x for three, 5x for four, 7.5x for five
- Bell – 2.5x for three, 4x for four, 5x for five
- BAR – 2x for three, 3x for four, 4x for five
- A – 1.5x for four, 2x for five
- K – 1.2x for four, 1.6x for five
- Q – 0.8x for four, 1.4x for five
- J – 0.4x for three, 0.6x for four, 1.2x for five
- 10 – 0.2x for three, 0.5x for four, 1x for five
Cash Symbols and the Collect Feature
Cash symbols land on reels 1 to 4 and carry values of 0.5x to 50x your bet. They do nothing on their own. The payout only arrives when a Collect symbol lands on reel 5, at which point the total value of every cash symbol on the reels is awarded.
The Mystery Symbol
The Mystery symbol can land on reel 1, but it only activates alongside a Collect symbol on reel 5. When it does, it reveals one of three things:
- Cash Upgrade – increments the value of three random cash symbols, or all of them if fewer than three are present
- Reel Casher – fills the entire reel with cash symbols of random value
- Collect – acts as a second Collect, gathering all cash symbols on the reels
Charge Tokens and the High Voltage Meter
Wilds substitute for everything except the Mystery, Cash and Collect symbols, and they can spawn Charge tokens. These fill the High Voltage meter, which takes 10 tokens to complete in the base game. Filling it activates the Double bonus game.
Once one Double bonus has been played, the meter resets and all bonus games stop being Double. Each fill is a one-shot upgrade.
Jackpot Tokens
Base Jackpot tokens appear anywhere on the reels in the base game and increment four jackpots, each scaling with your bet:
- Mini – incremented by 1x bet, pays 5x to 25x bet
- Minor – incremented by 2x bet, pays 50x to 100x bet
- Major – incremented by 5x bet, pays 500x to 1,000x bet
- Mega – incremented by 10x bet, pays 4,000x to 5,000x bet
The catch is that jackpots can only be won inside bonus games. You need 2, 3, 4 or 5 of the matching Bonus Jackpot tokens within a single round to claim the Mini, Minor, Major or Mega. Values reset between rounds, so a near-miss carries nothing forward.
Gold Wired Bonus Games and Free Spins
Bonus games trigger by chance every time a cash symbol is collected into one of the portals at the top of the screen. There are three variants – Boost Power, Reel Power and Collect Power – and each begins with 6 bonus spins, 3 to 5 random cash symbols and a special symbol that determines which variant you’re playing.
All cash symbols are held on the reels throughout. The round starts on a 3×5 grid and can expand to a 6×5 grid, unlocking rows as you go.
Star Reel Collect Symbols
Unlocking upper rows requires collecting 3 Star Reel Collect symbols. Each one awards 1 extra spin and collects all cash symbols below it, then turns into a cash symbol carrying the accumulated value. On the top row, they become Sticky, persisting for the rest of the round and awarding 2 extra spins instead.
Both regular and Sticky versions can land on locked rows too. They stay dormant until that row is unlocked, which rewards reaching the upper grid rather than punishing early arrivals.
The Three Variants
- Boost Power (blue cash symbols) – the Cash Upgrade special increments the value of all cash symbols each time it appears, though it isn’t persistent and is removed on the next spin
- Reel Power (red cash symbols) – the Reel Casher special fills all rows below it with cash symbols, then becomes a Star Reel Collect symbol
- Collect Power (green cash symbols) – the Collect special accumulates the values of all cash symbols on unlocked reels, then turns into a cash symbol that stays on the reels
Double Bonus Games
Fill the High Voltage meter in the base game and the next bonus is a Double. This doubles the special symbols granted at the start and guarantees 5 cash symbols on entry. It’s the one mechanic that ties the two halves of the game together, and it resets after a single use.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.3/10
The deal Gold Wired offers is this: sit through a base game that does almost nothing for you, in exchange for bonus rounds that are built with genuine care. It’s a fair deal if you like collection mechanics, and a poor one if you don’t. The base game is the weak half, and not marginally.
Line wins are small, cash symbols sit inert until reel 5 cooperates, and the jackpots you spend tokens building can’t actually be won out here at all. The bonus games are the strong half: three variants that behave differently, a grid that earns its expansion, and sticky collectors that accumulate real value. The Double mechanic, gated behind ten Charge tokens, is clever but mean – a one-shot upgrade most sessions will never reach.
Suited to patient players who enjoy watching a board come together. If you want a base game that entertains in its own right, this isn’t it, and there are better places in Foxium’s catalogue to look.
