Golden Horus

Golden Horus Slot Review

The frame of carved gold, the gemstones, the falcon wings beneath the reels: Golden Horus spends its money on the artwork, and then pays you out of the plumbing above it. That’s the argument of this game in one line.

The symbols themselves are worth barely anything, and the reels clear wins away like a croupier sweeping chips. Every real payout comes from a multiplier reel running x3 to x500 that the base game only ever hints at.

It’s a CQ9 Gaming build, in company with Fa Cai Shen 2 and Watah Master 2. Golden Horus runs on a 5×4 grid with 1024 Ways to win and reel multipliers from x3 to x500. The maximum win is 6,000x the bet, and the free spins round is where that top multiplier does its best work.

Base Game & Features

Matching symbols on consecutive reels from the left pay, wherever they sit, and only the highest combination per way counts. It’s a familiar setup, and Golden Horus doesn’t complicate it.

The Wild appears on reels two, three, four and five, substituting for all symbols except the Scatter. That’s the whole of its job, and it does it well enough, particularly in a game where the interesting mathematics sits above the reels rather than on them.

The paying symbols run from the gods down to the card royals, and the gap between top and bottom is wide.

• Horus (bird head) – 3 pays 1x, 4 pays 1.5x, 5 pays 2.5x
• Pyramid – 3 pays 0.5x, 4 pays 1.25x, 5 pays 2x
• Eye of Horus Pendant – 3 pays 0.5x, 4 pays 1.25x, 5 pays 2x
• Ankh – 3 pays 0.3x, 4 pays 0.75x, 5 pays 1x
• Crook and Flail – 3 pays 0.3x, 4 pays 0.75x, 5 pays 1x
• A – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 0.6x
• K – 3 pays 0.2x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 0.6x
• Q – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.15x, 5 pays 0.25x
• J – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.15x, 5 pays 0.25x
• 10 – 3 pays 0.05x, 4 pays 0.1x, 5 pays 0.15x
• 9 – 3 pays 0.05x, 4 pays 0.1x, 5 pays 0.15x

Five of a kind in the Horus symbol returns two and a half times the stake; the same hit in a royal costs the game less than a quarter of that. The ways system pays for every position, but the symbol values keep the ceiling low until the multipliers get involved.

The Eliminating Feature

Any winning combination activates the eliminating feature. Winning symbols are removed, new symbols drop into the gaps, and the process repeats until no winning combination remains. A single spin can therefore chain several payouts, each cleared away before the next falls.

That chain matters more than it might, because elimination feeds directly into the multiplier reel above. One system clears the board; the other keeps score.

The Multiplier Reel

Above each reel sits a multiplier ranging from x3 to x500. If one or more multiplier symbols land on a reel during a spin, that reel’s multiplier is activated and stays live until the spin ends.

At the end of the spin, if any multipliers are active, the total win is multiplied by the sum of all of them. When a Horus Wild lands, it activates the multiplier above its reel.

A Horus Wild can also combine with a multiplier symbol to form a winning line in its own right, and that line pays at the multiplier symbol’s value.

Multiplier Upgrades

When a winning line containing a multiplier symbol is eliminated, that reel’s multiplier is upgraded once per multiplier symbol on the reel, up to the reel’s maximum value. If the symbols that drop in form another such line, the reel’s multiplier upgrades again, and the process continues for as long as the chain holds.

Long elimination chains therefore don’t just add payouts; they push the multipliers higher while they do it. A chain that clears three or four winning lines in a row can leave several reels upgraded at once, and every one of them then counts towards the end-of-spin sum.

Golden Horus Free Spins & Multipliers

Any three or more Scatter symbols award 15 free spins, with each additional Scatter beyond three adding three more. The round is where the multiplier reel stops being decoration and becomes the point of the game.

During free spins, at the end of each spin, any activated multipliers on the reel are summed with the accumulated multiplier displayed at the bottom of the reels, and the spin’s total win is multiplied by the combined figure. After the payout, the activated multipliers are added to that running total and stay fixed there for the rest of the round.

So the accumulation only moves in one direction. A spin that activates even a modest multiplier makes every later spin in the round pay from a higher base.

A late round with several upgraded reels can multiply wins by figures the base game never reaches. It’s a ratchet, and a patient one.

Retriggers work the same way as the initial trigger: any three or more Scatters during the round award another 15 free spins, with three more for each additional Scatter, up to a cap of 100 free spins in total. The bet that triggered the bonus carries through the whole round, so the running multiplier is the only thing that grows.

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.2/10

Most of a session on Golden Horus is small change and sweeping motions: a ways win lands, it clears, another falls, and the total rarely raises an eyebrow. What keeps you in the seat is knowing what the free spins round turns that same furniture into. The setting looks the part throughout, and it’s the better half of the base game.

The strength is the accumulation. Because the running multiplier never resets inside the bonus, a round has genuine momentum: every spin that activates even a small multiplier makes the next one pay from a higher base, and with retriggers running to 100 spins there’s no ceiling on how long that build can run. That’s a rarer pleasure than it sounds.

The weakness is everything outside the bonus. The paytable tops out at 2.5x for a five-of-a-kind, so the base game can’t pay its way into excitement no matter how the chains fall. Anyone who wants their money’s worth on every spin will find the wait poor company; anyone who likes a long build to one big round will feel right at home in the gold.
