Hamsterdam Slot Review
The first thing Hamsterdam makes clear is that its Amsterdam is staffed entirely by hamsters, and none of them are on their best behaviour. This is Wicked Games in full adults-only cartoon mode. The venue is an upstairs club under a haze of smoke, where a Madam, a Stripper, a Pimp, a Dealer and a Cashier keep the place running. They’re drawn with enough exaggeration to read as parody rather than edge, and on first contact the whole thing looks ridiculous.
The joke hides a game with a proper engine underneath. A 5×4 grid and 20 paylines carry the base game, while three or more Scatters grow the grid to 5×6 for the character-driven Upstairs Bonus.
The numbers read high volatility, 96.1% RTP with the paid boosters edging that to 96.24%, and a 10,000x ceiling. There’s a Money Train flavour to the character modifiers and a hint of Fire in the Hole in the way the board opens up, though it plays simpler than either. It sits alongside Diner Dogs and Fawkes in the Wicked Games catalogue. The question is whether anything worthwhile lives under all that fur. It does, and it’s mostly upstairs.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a conventional five-reel set-up: a 5×4 grid crossed by 20 fixed paylines, with stakes running from 0.20 to 400 per spin. The symbol set keeps to the theme throughout, with the hamster cast front and centre.

Wild Symbols
The wild substitutes for every symbol except the Scatter and completes line wins in the usual way. Its second job arrives when exactly two Scatters land, because those Scatters turn wild for the feature that follows.

Double Dose Re-spins
Exactly two Scatter symbols in the base game trigger Double Dose Re-spins. Both triggering Scatters transform into sticky wilds, and every re-spin that lands at least one new wild adds another re-spin, with the new wilds sticking in place. The round runs until a spin passes without one.
Wins pay in both directions during the feature, left to right and right to left, opening up combinations the standard game can’t offer. And because three Scatters are the route into the main bonus, the two-Scatter re-spin doubles as the near-miss consolation: miss the Upstairs Bonus by a single Scatter and you still get a feature.

Hamsterdam Bonus Features
The Upstairs Bonus
Three or more Scatters unlock the Upstairs Bonus: three Scatters award eight spins, four award ten and five award twelve. The grid expands from 5×4 to 5×6, with only Nut, Hammer and Key symbols landing, each spinning on independent reels.
A three-door character column sits alongside the grid, and up to three characters can appear per spin, activating in a fixed order. Glass covers the upper four rows at the start, leaving only the bottom two rows collectable, so opening the board is the round’s first job.
When the final spin ends, every remaining unlocked Nut is collected and added to the total win, with the 10,000x maximum applying throughout.
Nuts, Hammers and Keys
Nuts are the cash symbols, and they come in three tiers of very different weight:
- Peanut: 2x to 8x
- Walnut: 10x to 50x
- Hazelnut: 100x, 500x or 1,000x
A Nut stays on the grid until it’s collected, and only Nuts on unlocked positions can be collected. The Hammer breaks the Glass on two to six random positions; if it lands on a locked position it waits there, sticky, until the Glass above breaks, then activates and is removed.
The Key behaves the same way and awards one to three extra spins when it activates, with the number shown on the symbol.

The Character Column
The characters are the bonus round’s engine, each doing a distinct job when it appears:
- Madam: breaks the Glass on two to five random locked positions.
- Stripper: adds three to five Nut symbols carrying values from 20x up to 1,000x.
- Pimp: selects two to five Nuts anywhere on the grid and multiplies their values by 2x to 5x, with anything above 10,000x capped.
- Dealer: selects two to five Nuts anywhere on the grid and makes them sticky until the end of the round.
- Cashier: collects two to five Nuts from unlocked positions, removes the non-sticky ones, and adds their values multiplied by the current bet to the total win.
The Dealer is the character that changes how a round develops: sticky Nuts aren’t removed when the Cashier collects them, so they can pay out again later. Nuts made sticky early can be multiplied by the Pimp and collected more than once before the round ends.
Wicked Boosters and Bonus Buys
The Wicked Boosters menu holds three purchase options, from a stake boost you can leave running to a one-off buy that skips the queue:
- Happy Hour Booster: 2x your stake, triples the chance of landing three or more Scatters, RTP 96.2%.
- Swing Both Ways Booster: 10x your stake, guarantees two Scatters and triggers Double Dose Re-spins instantly, RTP 96.2%.
- Skip the Line Bonus Buy: 145x your stake, guarantees at least three Scatters and opens the Upstairs Bonus immediately, RTP 96.24%.

Skip the Line guarantees the trigger rather than the outcome: which positions open, which Nuts land and which characters appear still decide what the round pays.

Our Honest Verdict
The base game is ordinary and honest about it. Quiet stretches, simple 20-payline spinning, and the saving grace that exactly two Scatters still buy Double Dose Re-spins, so a near-miss isn’t dead air. Everything that matters happens upstairs.
The Upstairs Bonus is where Hamsterdam earns its keep. Opening the Glass, fattening Nuts and chaining the Dealer into the Pimp and the Cashier gave us our best moments, including one Hammer chain that freed a trapped Hazelnut and a Key just as a round looked finished.
Happy Hour was the sensible way in for us. Skip the Line delivers the main event instantly, but paying for it again and again is hard to justify when the cheap booster sharpens the natural chase instead. The 10,000x ceiling is reasonable rather than remarkable.
Feature-heavy bonus fans who don’t mind a deliberately tacky theme will get on with it, and anyone after something serious should keep walking.
For all the fur and smoke, there’s a tough nut upstairs worth cracking. We give Hamsterdam a rating of 7.1 out of 10.
