Hot Hot Blazing Lock Slot Review
Hot Hot Blazing Lock hides an unusual amount of its game in a single reel position. While a cartoon flame in round glasses cheers from a lava-lit cavern and two gold-heaped cauldrons burn above the reels, almost nothing that happens here pays without the middle spot’s say-so – a design that turns a modest 5×3 grid into something far more consequential than it looks.
Light & Wonder runs this one on a 5×3 grid that’s actually 15 independent reels, at 96.00% RTP with mid-to-low volatility. Every feature keys off the middle position, and the four-tier jackpot ladder sizes itself to your bet. The family is familiar – A Hot Hot Blazing Christmas worked the same seam in 2024 – and the studio’s catalogue also includes Huff n’ More Puff and Ultimate Fire Link Explosion.
The 15-Reel Grid
The reel array is built from 15 individual reels rather than five strips, which sounds like a technicality until you notice what it means: like symbols stacked on a single reel don’t join one combination, but they can form separate ones. Two gold bars in the same reel can both pay, separately, into the same win.
The centre position is the interesting part. It only ever contains the wild, A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 – the premium symbols never touch it, and neither do the specials. Everything the game does flows through that one spot.
Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, and line pays scale with the total bet divided by 66. Only the highest win per combination counts, and scatter wins are added on top of payline wins. Symbol values as multiples of the total bet:
- Gold Bar – 0.6061x / 1.1364x / 3.7879x (three / four / five of a kind)
- Cup – 0.303x / 0.7576x / 1.5152x
- Crystal – 0.1515x / 0.3788x / 0.9091x
- Pot of Gold – 0.1515x / 0.303x / 0.7576x
- A, K – 0.0758x / 0.2273x / 0.4545x
- Q, J, 10, 9 – 0.0758x / 0.1515x / 0.303x
The Wild
The wild appears only on the centre reel and substitutes for everything except the scatter and the jackpot symbols. That’s the boring half of its job. When it lands in the centre position it also unlocks and awards every scatter and jackpot in view, may randomly award free spins, and may add to one or both of the pots sitting above the reels.
It’s the key the whole game turns on. Scatters and jackpots can land on the reels at any time, but they stay locked up until the wild arrives in the middle or the rewind mechanic shakes them loose.
Pots, Coins and the Jackpot Ladder
Two pots sit above the reels, and the wild can add to either or both. When it does, they may randomly trigger free spins – a single pot triggering awards six spins, both pots triggering awards twelve.
Coins are the small change of the system: each one that lands pays a flat award of 0.5x, 1.0x or 1.5x the total bet, with no unlock needed. Four jackpots hang above the reels too, all proportional to the total bet, all awarded through the wild or the rewind rather than by their own combinations. On a 1.32 bet the ladder reads:
- GRAND – 1,320.00
- MAJOR – 99.00
- MINOR – 13.20
- MINI – 5.28
Those figures scale with the stake, so the GRAND grows in step with whatever you’re betting.
Symbol Rewind
Rewind is the twist that keeps a miss interesting. On any wagered base game spin where the centre position lands on something other than the wild, that position may rewind and land on the wild instead – awarding all scatters or jackpots in view.
It works the other way round too. With a wild already in the centre, on a base spin or a free spin, one or more non-winning symbols may revert a random number of positions and award a scatter or jackpot in the affected reel. Either event can happen on a given spin, or both at once.
Free Spins
The wild landing in the centre position of any wagered base game spin can trigger the free spins, through the pots it feeds. The round works like this:
- One pot triggering awards six free spins; both pots triggering awards twelve
- The wild stays locked into the centre position for the whole round
- All scatters and jackpots landing in view are awarded on every spin
- During the round, each pot the wild triggers adds six further spins
- The round plays at the same bet as the triggering spin, with the same awards and winning combinations
With the wild pinned in the middle, every spin of the round is a guaranteed unlock – anything that lands gets paid. The round ends when no free spins remain, which, with pots re-triggering six at a time, can take a while.
Turbo Mode and BUY PASS™
A Turbo Mode button sits at the bottom right of the reels with a simple ON and OFF toggle. Turn it on and each spin speeds up; turn it off whenever you like. It doesn’t influence the results of the spins – it’s purely a pacing choice.
The BUY PASS™ is the bigger convenience: it buys direct access to the free spins, skipping the wait for a wild-and-pot trigger. It carries an expected return of 96.01%, a hair above the base figure, and it can’t be activated during the free spins themselves or while autoplay is running.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
This is a game you play for the cauldrons, not the coins – every spin quietly asks whether the middle will catch fire this time. That single question carries a whole session, because rewind means a miss can still turn into a wild, and the pots above the reels are always one nudge from boiling over into free spins.
The best thing here is that nothing on screen is dead weight: pots, coins, scatters and jackpots all route through one mechanic, so every symbol means something. The worst thing is that the paytable never rises to meet it. Five gold bars, the best the reels offer, pay 3.7879x the bet, and the GRAND tops the ladder at a stake-scaled value that won’t turn any heads.
For casual players and anyone who enjoys watching a jackpot ladder tick up over a relaxed session, the cavern is a comfortable place to sit. Big-win hunters will find the fire here doesn’t burn hot enough – but those cauldrons keep a steady warmth all the same.
