Hundreds and Thousands Slot Review
Hundreds and Thousands is the most decorated two-symbol slot you’re ever likely to spin. Pragmatic Play have hung a near-skeleton set of mechanics on an emerald parlour of a cabinet, all bottle-green baize, beaded gold rimming and gilt coins tumbling in at the edges, and the artwork is carrying more of the experience than it has any right to.
The generosity here is almost entirely visual. Underneath the bottle-green baize and the beaded gold rim sit a 5×5 grid, 100 paylines, 96.52% RTP and low volatility, with one free spins round and an ante bet doing the rest of the work. The maximum win is 2,000x the bet. How much of the sugar coating the mechanics need to carry is the question the rest of this answers.
Base Game & Features
The base game runs on a 5×5 grid with 100 fixed paylines, which is a lot of geometry for a game with only two paying symbols. Wins form left to right across the lines, and only five-of-a-kind combinations pay at all. The maths sits at the gentle end: low volatility, 96.52% RTP, and stakes from 0.05 up to 250.00 per spin.
The essentials in short order:
- Grid – 5×5, five reels, five rows
- Paylines – 100, fixed, paying left to right
- Volatility – low
- RTP – 96.52%
- Stakes – 0.05 to 250.00 per spin
- Paying symbols – two, plus one blank
The paytable is short enough to state in full:
- BAR – 10x the bet for five on a payline
- X – 1x the bet for five on a payline
- O – blank symbol, pays nothing
That’s the whole ladder. Two symbols, one winning combination length, and a blank that fills the reels, which tells you the base game is built around frequent very small hits rather than meaningful ones.
Because only five-of-a-kind runs pay, a line needs the same symbol on all five reels to return anything. The 100 lines give plenty of routes for those runs to form, but with three symbols in the mix and one of them a blank, most spins produce near misses rather than wins. It’s a structure that rewards volume of spins over individual outcomes.
The FREE SPINS symbol is the third thing worth watching for. It pays its way into the feature rather than paying cash, and it’s the only symbol that breaks the two-symbol pattern. When five of them line up on a winning payline, the reels switch over to the bonus round rather than awarding a prize.
There’s no wild in this game. Every win is a straight run of BARs or Xs across a payline, and nothing substitutes for anything. With 100 lines and a blank-heavy reel strip, the hits that do land are usually at the bottom of that ladder.
Hundreds and Thousands Free Spins & Bonus Features
Everything beyond the base game is organised around a single round, reached three different ways:
- Natural trigger – five FREE SPINS symbols in a winning payline
- Ante bet – doubles the stake to put more FREE SPINS symbols on the reels
- Buy feature – 100x the current total bet for an instant trigger
Free Spins
The feature fires when five FREE SPINS symbols land in a winning payline. The spin count isn’t fixed. The total number of free spins awarded is determined by how many winning paylines form with the FREE SPINS symbol on the triggering spin, so a richer trigger pays more spins.
Inside the round, a total multiplier of x2 applies to all wins. Special reels are in play, which means the symbol mix differs from the base game rather than the round simply replaying it. The x2 sits on every winning line the round produces, and it never climbs – there’s no escalating ladder or growing multiplier to wait on.
The round cannot be retriggered. Whatever you trigger with is what you play, and when the spins run out you’re back to the base game. With a flat 2x multiplier sitting on a two-symbol paytable, this is a modest feature by design rather than a stingy one.
Ante Bet
The ante bet gives you two bet multipliers to choose between, and the choice reshapes how the feature is reached:
- 5x multiplier – normal play
- 10x multiplier – more FREE SPINS symbols on the reels, so the natural trigger is more likely; the buy feature is disabled while it’s active
It’s a standard doubling of trigger odds at double the stake. Since the buy option switches off at 10x, the two routes to a faster feature are mutually exclusive rather than stackable.
Buy Feature
If you’d rather skip the wait, the free spins round can be bought outright for 100x your current total bet. The purchase works like this: you pay the price, the triggering spin plays out immediately, and a random number of winning paylines carrying the FREE SPINS symbol is guaranteed to hit on that spin. From there the round runs exactly as it would on a natural trigger.
As buys go, 100x is at the common end of the scale. It’s also the only route left once the 10x ante bet is on, which makes the choice between the two a genuine one rather than a default.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.3/10
Playing Hundreds and Thousands is a slow, gentle drift through that green-and-gold parlour, waiting for one feature that never grows teeth. The reason to choose it is the room itself: the presentation does more work than the paytable ever will, and the session stays calm because low volatility and a 0.05 minimum mean nothing dramatic can happen to you.
Its strength is the price of admission. Very few 100-payline games let you in at a 0.05 stake and keep the maths honest at 96.52%, and the ante bet and buy option let you decide how hard to push for the round. Its weakness is the ceiling. A two-symbol paytable, a flat 2x multiplier and no retrigger mean even the best free spins round can only ever pay modestly.
This is one for long, cheap sessions where the spinning is the point and the ornament is the reward. Anyone after a serious ceiling or a feature that escalates will run out of reasons to stay, and fairly quickly. For the rest, the parlour is open, the gold rim is polished, and it costs almost nothing to sit down.
