When we think of clowns, we’re taken back to our childhood birthdays, when a person dressed as a clown would come in and create adorable balloon animals, dish out presents, and pull one or two pranks. When you take a peak into Hacksaw Gaming’s latest creation, you’re greeted by two Pennywise-type clowns with big glowing eyes, frothing at the mouth.
There’s no doubt that Hacksaw Gaming got some inspiration from Stephen King’s IT movie, but the swift mechanics and features are all their own ideas. The ominous soundtrack and floating symbols tie in beautifully, making you wonder what’s lurking around the corners, in true horror fashion.

Base Game & Features
Klowns is a 6-reel, 5-row Video Slot with a Scatter Pays mechanic and varying bet sizes between £.€0.10 and £.€100 per spin. This game is considered Medium volatility with an overall RTP of 96.26% and a generous max win cap of 10,000x your bet.
Wins are guaranteed when 8 or more matching symbols appear across the grid in a single spin, regardless of their position. Each of the 10 paytable symbols awards varying payouts between 0.1x and 50x your bet.
With each new spin, symbols will float in from below the grid, rather than above as standard. Winning symbols are removed from the grid via a Cascade Feature, causing new symbols to float in from below. This creates additional chances of enhancing or generating new wins in a single spin.
Total Win Bar & Klown Multipliers
Each winning combination that occurs in a spin is displayed in the Total Win Bar above the main grid. At the end of a winning cycle, the value displayed in the total win bar is added to your balance.
Two special Klown Multipliers may also float onto the grid, revealing individual values from the following:
- Adding Multipliers: Between x2 and x500
- Multiplying Multipliers: Between x2 and x20
After a winning cycle, the Klown Multipliers are applied to the total value in the Total Win Bar and paid out. If there is more than 1 Klown Multiplier in view, their values are combined and applied to the total win.
Needle Boxes
The last symbol to look out for is special Needle Boxes. Landing a needle box in a spin will clear the grid of symbols corresponding with the type of symbols displayed on the box.
For example, Low-paying symbols are wiped out if the box displays a Low-paying symbol on the outside. Each High or Low-paying symbol that is removed will award an additional 0.5x and 0.1x your bet to the Total Win Bar respectively.

Lester’s Cash Carousel
Landing 3 FS Scatters in the base game triggers Lester’s Cash Carousel, awarding 10 Free Spins with an increased chance of Higher Multipliers.
During this round, a special Bounty Balloon sits to the right of the reels, collecting all Multipliers that are applied to the Total Win Bar. The bounty balloon will expand until it pops. This only occurs when an Epic Needle Box lands on the grid.
Once the bounty balloon has burst, the collected Multiplier is applied to the Total Win Bar, after which, the bounty balloon resets. Landing 2 or 3 FS Scatters awards an additional +2 and +4 Free Spins respectively.
Jester’s Jackpot
Landing 4 FS Scatters in the base game triggers Jester’s Jackpot, awarding 10 Free Spins. This round is played in a similar fashion to Lester’s Cash Carousel. The only difference is that the Bounty Balloon does not reset once it is popped.
Our Verdict
Klowns from Hacksaw Gaming is a terrifying addition to their portfolio and every horror fanatic’s dream, This game is not quite as hair-raising as Print Studios’ Darkness and Dreadworks, but it’s a very intimidating offer, to say the least.
The theme may be the stuff of nightmares, but the features and mechanics are quite the opposite. The way the game works and the inclusion of Multiplier symbols give off Starlight Princess and Gates of Olympus vibes – a tried and tested feature that has popped up many times in other titles to these.
Besides the game’s features and mechanics, other key attributes include its Medium Volatility rating, overall RTP of 96.26%, and sizeable max win cap of 10,000x your bet. All in all, Hacksaw Gaming has won over the crowd once again, by creating a game that is both terrifying and tantalising at the same time.
