Koi Falls: Flowing Fortune Slot Review
A golden Chinese temple floats above cloud-wrapped peaks, gold dragons coiling around its pillars and rearing out of the screen’s corners. Three columns of coloured light, blue, red and green, pour down like waterfalls into huge embossed urns. Koi Falls: Flowing Fortune, from Fantasma Games, makes those urns the game: each holds a progressive prize with a Must Hit value, so a full meter is a guaranteed payout rather than a tease.
It runs on a 5×3 grid with 243 ways to win, sitting in a catalogue that includes Flower Fortunes and Medallion Megaways. Fantasma Games lists three RTP settings, 96.23%, 94.4% and 92.74%, and the casino chooses which one runs. What stands out is meters that never stop moving, and a bonus round that grows the reels to hold more coins.
Base Game & Features
Wins are evaluated across 243 ways on the 5×3 grid, with matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left forming a win. Ways, not lines: there’s no payline map to study, just left-to-right adjacency. Because every position on the grid counts, a full screen of one symbol pays on every possible route at once.
The ways count is a fixed property of the layout rather than something a bet adjustment changes. The rest of the base game is carried by three special symbols, and they interact more than you’d expect.
Symbol pays are multiples of the stake, for three, four and five of a kind:
- Lotus: 1x / 2x / 4x
- Fan: 0.8x / 1.5x / 3x
- Key/Scroll (blue) and Scroll (purple): 0.6x / 1x / 2x
- A and K: 0.4x / 0.8x / 1.2x
- Q, J and 10: 0.2x / 0.6x / 1x
It’s a conventional ladder, tightly bunched at the top and stepping down through the royals to a modest floor. Every symbol in the game pays on three of a kind, so even the bottom of the grid returns something on a full left-to-right run.
The two scrolls share a tier, and so do the two high royals, which keeps the ladder short and easy to hold in your head. The Wild appears on the middle four reels and stands in for any regular symbol when wins are evaluated. It has no value of its own, and it does nothing for the two scatter types. That’s its whole job, and it does it quietly.
Coin Symbols
Coin symbols are scatters rather than regular symbols, and they appear in both parts of the game. Each one arrives carrying a random prize worth anything from half the bet up to 9x. In the base game they pay nothing on their own; their job is to stack up towards the bonus trigger, and each one that lands brings its prize value with it into the round if the round begins.
Koi Symbols and the Koi Falls Prizes
Three different Koi symbols can appear on any reel, each tied to one of the three coloured prizes displayed above the reels. Those are the three streams filling the urns, and each prize is progressive: landing any Koi symbol nudges its matching prize upward.
The increments differ by tier. The lowest prize climbs 0.2x the bet per Koi, the middle one 0.4x, and the highest 0.5x. Each prize carries a Must Hit value: reach it and the payout is guaranteed, after which that prize resets to its initial value and starts growing again.
The reset is the interesting part. A prize that has just paid out isn’t spent, it’s simply back at the bottom of its ladder, and every Koi that lands afterwards starts rebuilding it. Landing a Koi symbol can also randomly pay the corresponding prize outright, so the meters aren’t the only route to the money.
Prizes can only be won in the base game, so the bonus round doesn’t interrupt the climb. The three meters run alongside everything else the reels are doing, which gives an ordinary spin two things to watch.
The scale is the honest cost of the design. At the lowest tier, a prize needs a long run of Koi landings to get anywhere near its Must Hit value, and the increments are the same whether the meter is nearly empty or nearly full.
Koi Falls: Flowing Fortune Bonus Game
Landing six or more Coin symbols in the base game triggers the Bonus Game, which plays out on an expanded 6×6 rows-based grid. Three spins are awarded, and every Coin symbol that triggered the round locks in place with its prize attached. The fourth, fifth and sixth rows start locked.
The locked rows open on coin count, and each carries its own multiplier:
- The fourth row opens at 10+ total locked coins and applies a x2 multiplier to coins on that row
- The fifth row opens at 15+ total locked coins and applies a x10 multiplier
- The sixth row opens at 20+ total locked coins and applies a x50 multiplier
Unlocking a row applies its multiplier to every coin already sitting there, and to any coin that lands on it afterwards. That’s the round’s engine of escalation: the top row multiplies whatever sits on it by fifty, coins included, and a coin that locked early is treated exactly the same as one that lands after the row opens.
Landing a new Coin symbol in an active row resets the spin count to three, which is where the round gets its legs. The bonus ends when the spins run out or every position is filled with coins. At that point all locked Coin symbol prizes are summed and paid out, a single settlement rather than a spin-by-spin drip.
The round plays with the same bet configuration as the spin that activated it, so there’s no separate stake to manage.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing this is slow, and the slowness is deliberate: something is always growing, and the game wants you watching the urns rather than the reels. The reason to choose it over something louder is that accumulation. Coins stack, rows open, meters climb. Nothing here rushes you.
Its best idea is the Must Hit values. Meters that are guaranteed to pay once full do the one thing progress meters almost never do, which is keep their promise. Its worst is the pace of the arithmetic: 0.2x at a time on the lowest prize, and 20 locked coins before the x50 row even opens, so the big money sits a long way upstream.
This is one for the patient collector, the sort who enjoyed the gathering end of Flower Fortunes, and not for anyone chasing quick free-spins hits. The urns do fill eventually. That’s rather the point of the temple.
