Luck O The Irish Big Bonus Slot Review
The most interesting decisions in Luck O The Irish Big Bonus happen after the reels stop, not while they’re turning. Behind the shamrock lettering and the rainbow landing in an Irish meadow, Blueprint Gaming has built a game where a scatter hit is almost the boring way in – the real route to a big round runs through wheels you spin yourself, at odds you set.
It runs on a 5×4 grid with 40 lines always active and mid-to-high volatility. Blueprint have plenty of Irish form, and this one sits alongside Wish Upon a Leprechaun Megaways and Eye of Horus in a catalogue built on familiar faces done well.
Base Game & Features
The base game plays out on a 5×4 grid with 40 paylines, all of them active on every spin. Wins pay left to right across adjacent reels, and only the highest win counts on any single line.
The reels carry coins, 7s and royal symbols alongside the themed imagery, all of it framed in a woven gold rope trim. It’s a bright, storybook rendering of Ireland, heavy on the gold and light on restraint. The Pot of Gold scatter is the symbol to watch, sitting on the reels alongside everything else and paying out its bonus duties rather than line wins.
There’s a standard control set underneath it all. That matters here more than in most games, because two of the more interesting buttons on the cabinet don’t spin the reels at all: one switches you into Fortune Play, and the other takes you to the gamble wheels after a win.
Wild Symbol
The wild substitutes for all other symbols except the scatter, helping to complete winning combinations. When more than one wild-assisted line lands, only the highest win per combination is paid.
In Fortune Play the wild takes on a second job, and it’s that job rather than the substitution itself that makes it worth watching.
Fortune Play
Fortune Play can be switched on at any time by pressing the Fortune Play button. It’s a deliberately expensive option, and everything it changes flows from these three things:
- Costs 10x your total bet to activate
- Brings additional reel sets into play on every spin
- Lets wild symbols transfer across to the other reel sets
The wild transfer is the whole draw. A single wild landing on one set can finish combinations on several of them at once, which is the sort of swing that justifies the ticket price when it comes off.
The flow in and out is simple. Play your spin, and while the reels settle you can change your Fortune Bet for the next one; press the Standard Play button at any point and you’re back on the ordinary reels with the ordinary stake. Nothing locks you in, so it’s easy to dip in for a few spins and step back out when the balance needs a rest.
Luck O The Irish Big Bonus Free Spins & Bonuses
Free Spins Bonus
Three Pot of Gold scatter symbols in view on reels 1, 3 and 5 award 8 free spins. The round plays very differently from the base game: only the wild and the three top-paying symbols are active, which strips the reels down to the valuable end of the paytable.
That stripping-down is the round’s identity. With the low-paying royals removed from play, every spin is built from the symbols that matter, and the wild has far fewer duds to rescue. Free spins can’t retrigger during the round, so 8 spins is all a scatter hit pays, and any additional rounds have to come through the gamble.
Gamble Feature
After any win you can choose to gamble it, and you’re presented with two wheels. They do different jobs:
- Left wheel – gambles your cash win, with a chance to increase it
- Right wheel – gambles for free spins instead, up to a maximum of 50
On both wheels you can adjust the odds with the minus and plus arrows, trading the size of the prize against your chance of landing it. Land in the green and the corresponding win is yours. Land in the red and the spin is lost, along with the winnings that funded the gamble.
The two wheels work step by step like this:
- Take a win in the base game and press gamble
- Pick your wheel – cash on the left, free spins on the right
- Use the arrows to set your own odds and prize
- Press a gamble button to spin the wheel
- Collect at any point, or press on if the green section holds
Pressing collect at any point banks what’s on the table. The free-spins wheel is the interesting one: 50 spins is a long way past the 8 a scatter hit pays, and it’s the only route to a longer round this game offers. Push the arrows the other way and even a small win can buy a shot at a handful of extra spins.
Auto Play
Autoplay runs spins automatically one after another at your chosen stake, and you set the number of bets before starting. It switches itself off in three situations:
- When you reach a bonus round, including free spins
- When you hit the loss limit you’ve set
- When a progressive pot is awarded, where applicable
You can stop it at any point with the stop button, before the next spin gets going. Standard stuff, but the loss limit is worth setting before you start, because mid-to-high volatility can move a balance faster than you’d think.
One thing this game doesn’t tell you is what its ceiling is. There’s no maximum win figure for it anywhere, so the honest answer on win potential is the volatility rating and nothing more.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Most of a session here is plain fruit-machine rhythm: 40 fixed lines, a scatter, and a meadow doing its best to justify the gold trim. The reason to pick it is that nothing in it is on rails. Every win hands you a wheel and a set of arrows, and a dull spin can end with you pushing for 50 free spins instead of banking a fiver.
That gamble is the game’s real strength – it’s rare for a slot this traditional to let you set your own odds, and it makes even small wins matter. The weakness is that the base game gives you nothing but those wins to work with.
If you like a nostalgic cabinet and want agency between spins, this is your meadow. Anyone chasing retriggers and long bonus ladders will find the rainbow here ends a bit too soon.
