Luck O The Irish Mystery Ways Slot Review
The glade this game lives in is pure storybook Ireland: sun through the trees, clover green everywhere, golden motes drifting past a chunky gold-framed set of reels. Luck O The Irish Mystery Ways makes a quietly bold bet inside that glade – it’s a ways game from Blueprint Gaming that cares more about how many routes a win can take than what the symbols are worth. A 5×3 grid starts at 243 ways to win and can grow to 16,807, at 95% RTP and high volatility. The question is whether the growing ways count carries a thin paytable.
It sits in the same studio territory as Wish Upon a Leprechaun Megaways, Eye of Horus Megaways and The Goonies. Here, though, it’s the mystery symbol doing the stretching rather than a licensed name.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a five-reel, three-row set-up where wins pay across ways rather than fixed lines. Any matching symbols on consecutive reels from the left count, and the way count isn’t fixed: it starts at 243 and can climb as high as 16,807 when the features expand the reels. That range is the game’s central idea, and everything in the build points at it.
The numbers behind the range are tidy. Three rows on each of five reels gives three to the power of five, which is 243 ways. At the top end, seven positions per reel gives seven to the power of five, which lands exactly on 16,807.
The ways count isn’t decorative arithmetic. Each extra position a reel gains multiplies every possible route through the grid, which is why the mystery symbol’s ability to add ways matters so much.
Mystery Symbol
The Mystery Symbol appears at random. When it lands, it reveals one symbol across every position it occupies, and it can also award additional ways. It’s a simple modifier on paper, but it’s the engine of the whole game: a screen with several mystery symbols can flip from a dead spin into a big ways win in one reveal.
Because the reveal happens after the symbols have landed, the mystery positions don’t need to sit on adjacent reels to matter. A cluster of them spread across the grid can all turn over the same symbol at once.
If that symbol is the Pot of Gold, the ways from the reveal pay on top of whatever was already in view. That’s where the biggest single-spin results come from.
Paytable
Pays are multiples of stake for three, four and five of a kind:
- Pot of Gold – three pays 2x, four pays 4x, five pays 10x
- Red Gem – three pays 1x, four pays 3x, five pays 5x
- Blue Gem – three pays 0.6x, four pays 2x, five pays 4x
- Green Gem – three pays 0.6x, four pays 2x, five pays 4x
- A – three pays 0.4x, four pays 0.8x, five pays 2x
- K – three pays 0.4x, four pays 0.8x, five pays 2x
- Q – three pays 0.2x, four pays 0.4x, five pays 1x
- J – three pays 0.2x, four pays 0.4x, five pays 1x
- 10 – three pays 0.2x, four pays 0.4x, five pays 1x
The Pot of Gold sits at the top and can land stacked, so a full reel of it is where the biggest base game wins come from. The gem tier is thin, though: below the Red Gem the values drop away fast, and the royals pay pocket change at the low end. Only the highest combination per way counts.
Worth noticing on the ladder: the Pot of Gold is worth ten times the Q at five of a kind, but only twice the Red Gem. The premium symbols are bunched together, so the size of a win depends less on which symbol filled the ways than on how many ways were filled.
That makes the reveal more important than the symbol it reveals, which is an unusual balance for a ways game.
The maximum win is 3,100x the bet. A five-of-a-kind Pot of Gold at 10x is the single biggest symbol pay, and everything beyond it comes from stacking ways on top of ways during the features.
Luck O The Irish Mystery Ways Bonus Features
Three features carry the game beyond the base spin, and they interlock rather than sitting apart:
- Mystery Symbol – appears at random, reveals one symbol, can award additional ways
- Money Spins – triggered by any Money Spins symbols in view
- Fortune Play – activates additional reel sets, with the Mystery symbol able to transfer between them
Money Spins
Money Spins is the headline bonus. It triggers whenever any Money Spins symbols are in view – there’s no scatter count to chase, the symbols themselves are the trigger. Once it fires, the round locks in the money symbols that started it and awards spins to collect more.
The any-symbol trigger changes how you read a spin. Where most games make you wait for a scatter threshold, here a single money symbol anywhere on the grid is live. No spin with one in view is truly dead until the reels stop.
The cost of that easy entry is that the round’s value rides entirely on how many more money symbols land during the awarded spins. A trickle in means a trickle out.
Fortune Play
Fortune Play is the game’s bigger stage: additional reel sets running in parallel, shown side by side, with the Mystery symbol able to transfer across to them. One good reveal can echo through every set on screen, and the ways each set adds stack into the same overall count.
It’s also the mode that makes the paytable’s shape make sense. The symbol values are modest on their own, but a transferred mystery reveal hitting several reel sets at once multiplies the number of ways a single symbol can pay across. That’s the only route to anything approaching a full-screen result.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
This is a slot where most spins are spent waiting for a reveal, and the waiting is the fun of it. That’s the one reason to pick it: no spin with a mystery symbol on it is finished until it turns over, and in a sunlit Irish glade, a screen full of question marks holds attention better than it has any right to.
Fortune Play is the best thing here. Reel sets running side by side with the reveal crossing between them is genuinely its own idea, not a recycled one, and it’s the only mode that pays the ways count what it’s owed.
The paytable is the problem. Once the Pot of Gold is out of the picture the wins shrink to almost nothing, and the 95% return makes a thin ladder thinner. This is for players who enjoy the build – the climbing ways count, the multi-set chaos – and not for anyone who wants the symbols themselves to pay their way. The gold at the end of this rainbow is in the mechanics.
