Mega Mine Bonanza Slot Review
Down a lamplight shaft, a white-bearded prospector in dungarees leans out from the rocks with one arm flung wide, a hexagonal brass lantern swings on its chain, and a crate of dynamite sits on a ledge waiting for a spark. Most mining slots hand you the gold; this one makes you build the mine first. Games Inc dresses the cavern in warm, glossy cartoon style, and the reel set is boarded into the rock face like a mine entrance.
It runs on a 5×3 grid, with stone-carved royals, a lantern, a mine cart, a gold nugget and a red gem up the pays. That construction is the whole point of the thing: what you build in the base game carries into the bonus round, so the spins between features are never just filler.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay left to right across the grid, with symbol values that climb steeply from the stone royals up to the red gem. The table splits cleanly in two: five premiums that pay in multiples worth having, and five stone-carved royals that mostly keep the balance ticking over. Every paying symbol’s value, as a multiple of stake:
- Red Gem – 5x for four, 7x for five
- Gold Nugget – 4x for four, 6.2x for five
- Lantern – 1.4x for three, 3.6x for four, 5x for five
- Mine Cart – 1.2x for three, 2.8x for four, 3.6x for five
- Mining Helmet – 1x for three, 1.8x for four, 2.8x for five
- Stone A – 0.8x for three, 1.4x for four, 2x for five
- Stone K / Stone Q – 0.4x for three, 0.8x for four, 1.2x for five
- Stone J / Stone 10 – 0.2x for three, 0.4x for four
Two things stand out in that table. The top three symbols don’t pay at all for three of a kind – the Red Gem and Gold Nugget only start at four – so the premiums are genuinely premium. And the royals drop away fast: Stone J and Stone 10 stop paying entirely at four of a kind.
Two symbols do the real work. The Pickaxe bonus symbol lands anywhere in view and resolves immediately. It plants a stone mine at its position, which can arrive carrying a multiplier, and then swaps itself out for a random high pay symbol.
That swap is a small piece of design worth pausing on. The pickaxe never lingers as a dead tile – it builds something, then gets out of the way and hands you a premium symbol in its place. So a pickaxe both works towards the bonus and pays something on the spot.
The Dynamite Scatter
The Dynamite scatter appears on reels two, three and four only. Three of them is the fast route into the bonus game, no pickaxe construction required.
It’s the shortcut, and the game prices nothing on it – it simply triggers a special entry into the same free spins round. The two routes end in the same place; the difference is what you’ve managed to build on the way in.
Building the Mines
Mines built from pickaxe symbols persist in the base game, and that’s the engine of the whole design. Everything you construct before the bonus triggers is waiting for you when it does.
Collect enough pickaxes and the round opens on your terms. It’s a design that gives the ordinary spins a second job: even when the paytable pays nothing, a pickaxe landing on the grid is progress towards something bigger.
Mega Mine Bonanza Bonus & Free Spins
Mega Mine Bonus
The construction pays off here: six Pickaxe symbols or three Dynamite scatters open the Mega Mine Bonus. You’re awarded six free spins, and every mine you built in the base game carries over onto the bonus grid.
The bonus runs on wooden mines rather than stone, and that’s where the upgrades live. Where the base game gave you a fixed stone mine with a fixed multiplier, the bonus board can grow beyond what you walked in with.
Six spins is a short round, and that brevity is deliberate. With mines already planted and upgrades possible, each spin is doing more work than a base-game spin ever does – the round doesn’t need length to build a board.
Upgradable Mines
During the bonus, mines can upgrade, and upgraded mines mean bigger wins when symbols land on them. A board that started the round as a scatter-cut entry with nothing built can still end up paying like a constructed one.
Gem Multipliers
Gem Multipliers enhance both ways wins and Mega Mine wins, and they apply when symbols land on mines. Stack a gem on an upgraded wooden mine and a single spin can do a great deal more than the base game ever suggested.
The three systems feed each other. Mines give the gems somewhere to sit, upgrades make those mines worth more, and the gems turn landings into enhanced payouts. The bonus board you finish with is rarely the one you started with.
There’s a BUY BONUS button in the base game for anyone who’d rather skip the construction phase entirely. The maximum win is 10,000x, so what a fully upgraded bonus board can pay is capped rather than left entirely to the reels.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
This is a slot about the long dig rather than the strike. You choose it because the waiting has a point: every pickaxe that lands is another plank in the bonus board, and the round you eventually reach is partly one you built yourself. Few games make the dead time between features feel like work worth doing, and this is one of them.
The carry-over is the strength, and it’s a real one – the bonus you earn plays differently from the bonus you shortcut into, because a constructed board with six mines on it is worth more than an empty one, and the upgrades in the round reward what you walked in carrying. The weakness is the base game itself: with premiums that won’t pay for three of a kind and royals trailing off fast, the paytable gives you very little while you wait for the pickaxes to come.
It suits players who like a slow build and don’t mind a quiet shaft to get there. Anyone who wants action on every spin will find the wait tedious, and there are livelier caverns elsewhere. For the patient, though, this mine rewards the digging.
