Might of Freya Megaways Slot Review
A Valkyrie in silver and blue stands guard at the reels, staff topped with a blue jewel, on a stone-and-timber shrine above a green headland and a flat sea. The reel frame carries carved wooden wings like a longship’s prow, golden rope coiling down the pillars. The Norse pageantry is gorgeous, but Pragmatic Play have made a game that cares far more about chain-building than spectacle: almost everything Might of Freya Megaways pays you comes from one tumble chain refusing to stop.
Might of Freya Megaways runs on a 6×7 grid with up to 117,649 ways, at 96.99% RTP in its default configuration, medium volatility, and stakes from 0.20 to 240.00 per spin. Cousins for the Norse-epic crowd include Fury of Odin Megaways, Gates of Valhalla and Viking Forge, though the loop at the heart of this one works to its own rhythm.
Base Game & Features
The grid is six reels with a variable number of rows per reel, and wins pay left to right on adjacent symbols of any size, the standard Megaways arrangement. The ways counter shifts constantly as reels load with different row counts. Stakes run from 0.20 up to 240.00 per spin.
Tumble Feature
Every winning combination is paid, then the winning symbols disappear. Remaining symbols fall into the empty positions and new symbols drop in from above. Tumbling continues for as long as new wins appear, all from a single paid spin.
The tumbles matter beyond the wins they produce, because five consecutive tumbles from one spin is what triggers the free spins round. That makes every tumble chain a countdown of sorts, and the game keeps the running total visible.
Freya Super Symbol
The Freya Super Symbol appears only on the bottom row, under reels two to five. It’s a wild that substitutes for everything except the REDROP symbol, and it does more than substitute: it adds wilds to a random number of positions on the reel above it. Each of those wilds carries a random life count, one or two in the base game and up to three during free spins.
While any wild with lives remains, the game respins. Each respin reduces every wild’s life count by one, and a wild disappears when its lives run out. The respins continue until no wilds with lives are left, so a single Freya symbol can hold the reels in motion for several rounds while fresh symbols keep dropping in.
A standard wild also appears on the bottom row of reels two to five, substituting for all symbols except the Freya Super Symbol and REDROP. The bottom row spins independently of the reels above it, which is how these bottom-row-only symbols stay in their lane.
Paying Symbols
Symbol pays are multiples of stake, for three to six matching symbols on adjacent reels:
- Freya – 1x, 2.5x, 5x and 15x for three, four, five and six
- White Cat – 0.75x, 2.5x and 5x for four, five and six
- Eagle – 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 4x for three, four, five and six
- Horn – 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x and 2x for three, four, five and six
- A and K – 0.25x, 0.4x, 0.6x and 1.5x for three, four, five and six
- Q and J – 0.2x, 0.25x, 0.5x and 1x for three, four, five and six
- 10 and 9 – 0.1x, 0.2x, 0.4x and 0.8x for three, four, five and six
Ante Bet
Two bet multipliers are on offer. The 20x multiplier is normal play. Selecting the 25x multiplier increases the chance of triggering the free spins round and the chance of hitting tumbles, at the cost of disabling the bonus buy entirely.
Might of Freya Megaways Free Spins
Triggering the Round
Five consecutive tumbles from a single spin awards the free spins round. Before the round begins, a wheel spins and determines two things at random: the number of free spins and a minimum guaranteed number of ways to win. Special reels are in play throughout the feature.
The REDROP Symbol
REDROP appears only in the base game. When it hits, the tumbles resolve first, then the entire screen clears and a fresh set of symbols drops in. That clear-out counts as a tumble towards the five-tumble trigger, so a REDROP landing mid-chain keeps the count moving.
Multipliers and Retriggers
The round starts with a 1x multiplier applying to all wins, and it climbs by 1x with every tumble. Five consecutive tumbles during the round retrigger the feature and add two free spins.
The round’s total win lands between 50x and 80x the total bet. Once it finishes, there may be a choice: collect the win, or forfeit it and replay the round from scratch. Replaying costs nothing but the win already earned, which makes it a pure gamble on running hotter the second time.
The RTP you get depends on that choice and on the route taken into the round:
- Collect at the end of free spins – 95.97%
- Replay at the end of free spins – 96.50%
- Collect, with the Ante Bet – 95.83%
- Replay, with the Ante Bet – 96.52%
- Buying the round and taking collect – 94.90%
- A bought round ending in a replay – 96.60%
Buy Free Spins
The free spins round can be bought instantly from the base game for 100x the current total bet. The buy is disabled while the 25x Ante Bet multiplier is selected, so the two routes to the bonus are mutually exclusive.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.3/10
This is a game of long, slow builds, and if you sit down at Freya’s shrine wanting loud individual spins, you’ve come to the wrong temple. The one reason to pick it: when a Freya wild takes hold and the respins keep rolling, a single stake stays alive far longer than it has any right to.
That’s the strength, and it’s real. The weakness is the payoff at the end of the build, because the free spins round resolves between 50x and 80x regardless of how high the multiplier climbed, and a buy at 100x can’t even cover its own cost at the bottom of that band.
It suits players who enjoy the mechanics for their own sake: the chain-builders and tumble-counters, and anyone who likes leaving a bonus round with a decision in hand rather than a done deal. Anyone chasing a headline payout should keep walking down the coast. For the rest, Freya’s shrine is worth a visit, and the guard at the door is a good one.
