Mighty Black Knight Slot Review
Torches flicker on the walls of a violet-lit keep, pennants strung between twin stone towers, and a set of reels bolted into a timber scaffold. Mighty Black Knight spends its whole budget on that entrance, because the game behind it is one of the plainest 21-line slots you’ll spin this year. That’s not a complaint: nearly all of what this game is actually about lives in a paid side game, and paying to reach it costs almost nothing in return.
This is a Light & Wonder build, in the same armour-heavy register as Black Knight Evolution and 300 Shields Mighty Ways. It runs a 5×4 grid with 21 win lines, mid volatility and an RTP of 96.14%. Behind the plain exterior sits a paid shortcut to the good part, and that side of the game does the heavy lifting. Raging Rhino Mighty Ways fans will recognise the approach.
21 Win Lines and a Plain Base Game
The visible playing area is a 5×4 grid, with extra reel rows showing above it that appear to scroll or cascade into view. Wins pay across 21 fixed win lines, numbered one to twenty-one in the game’s line diagram.
There isn’t much else happening out here. A BONUS symbol lands on the reels, and it matters to the paid side game rather than to anything it triggers on its own. A knight figure that works like a wild also appears, though its expanding behaviour belongs to the paid game, not this one. Win-line connector graphics light up across the reels when a line lands.
Wins during ordinary play register in small amounts, ticking up in the win counter as the reels settle. Autoplay is on hand for longer runs, and it ends automatically if a loss limit you’ve set is reached. The fixed numbers:
- Base game RTP: 96.14% total expected return
- Volatility: mid
- Win lines: 21, all in play on every spin
- Autoplay: available, with a loss limit that ends the run when it’s reached
Turbo Mode
Turbo Mode speeds up each spin and can be switched off at any point, mid-session or between spins. When Free Spins are awarded, Turbo Mode turns itself off automatically and doesn’t come back on unless you switch it on again. It has no effect on results, it just makes the reels settle faster.
Premium Play
Premium Play is the centrepiece, and it’s a purchase-style option rather than something you wait to trigger. Selecting the Premium Play button brings up a choice of two games:
- The 2.00 Premium Play game, with WILD symbols that expand whenever any part of the WILD symbol is in view
- The 5.00 Premium Play game
Each tier carries its own expected return, and both sit a hair under the main game’s figure:
- 2.00 Premium Play: 96.09% on a 2.00 stake
- 5.00 Premium Play: 96.08% on a 5.00 stake
- Main game: 96.14%
Once an option is selected and confirmed, the game switches to a mini reel set of 3 reels and 1 win line. It’s a completely separate machine from the 21-line base game: three reels, one line across the middle, and a payout table of its own. The sequence from there runs in a fixed order:
- Match 3 BONUS symbols on the single win line
- 5 Premium Play Spins are awarded, with the same functionality as Free Spins
- Each spin runs every win line, with payouts from the Premium Play table
- Wins accumulate and pay out at the end of the last spin
- The round ends when no Premium Play Spins remain
The accumulative payout is the detail worth pausing on. Nothing pays as it lands; every win across the five spins is held and settled in one amount after the final spin, so the total on screen at the end is the sum of the whole sequence rather than five separate credits.
The wild behaviour depends on the option bought. In the 2.00 game, any wild with even a part showing expands to fill its reel, which is where the real win potential of the mini game comes from. A partially visible wild still counts, so a wild straddling the edge of the visible rows does the full job.
Free Spins can also be triggered during Premium Play Spins. If that happens, the Free Spins play out immediately, and once they finish the remaining Premium Play Spins pick up where they left off. The retrigger is real rather than theoretical: a single Premium Play sequence can bank an entire Free Spins round in the middle of itself and keep going afterwards.
The pricing structure is worth a look. Both options return a fraction under the main game’s 96.14%, so the paid entry costs you almost nothing in theoretical return. The 2.00 game buys expanding wilds; the 5.00 game’s perks aren’t spelled out to the same degree, so the value of stepping up depends on what that tier awards when you’re sitting at the screen.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Playing Mighty Black Knight is mostly waiting in a very well-decorated courtyard. The base game ticks along on 21 lines, small wins land, and the real reason to be here is the door on the left: the paid Premium Play game, where the armour finally comes off and the expanding wilds get to work.
What it does best is price that door fairly. Both paid tiers return within a whisker of the main game, so you’re buying the exciting half of the slot rather than renting it at a premium. What it does worst is everything on the way there: outside Premium Play there’s one symbol doing anything, no pays worth studying and not much reason to linger.
It’s a fit for players who’d rather pay a little to go straight to the good bit, and mid volatility keeps that route affordable. Anyone who wants a base game that entertains in its own right will find the keep mostly empty. For the rest, the torches are lit and the drawbridge is cheap to cross.
