Nuuttipukki Hold & Win Slot Review
A red-eyed, horned creature looms over the reels from a snowy forest that never quite brightens into day. Most winter slots are tinsel; Nuuttipukki Hold & Win from Tom Horn Gaming reaches for the other end of the tradition, and the folklore turns out to be the more interesting half of a game built almost entirely around one escalating idea. It runs on a 6×5 grid, pays for eight or more matching symbols anywhere on screen, and returns 95.02% RTP.
The claim to care about is the doubling ladder underneath the bonus round, a multiplier that starts small and never stops climbing while the respins keep landing. Everything outside that ladder is a colder, slower game. It sits in familiar company for the studio, alongside Ace Coins and Majestic Coins Extreme, but the frozen forest is darker than Pumpkin God 3000 ever managed.
BlastX and Mystery Multipliers
The base game pays the cluster way: land eight or more identical symbols anywhere on the 6×5 grid and you’re paid, with the payout calculated by multiplying your bet by the winning combinations in the spin. There’s no wild in this game. Cluster wins of eight-plus are the whole base mechanic, and everything else builds outward from them.
Any win sets off BlastX. Winning symbols shatter and disappear, new symbols drop into the empty spaces, and any new clusters formed pay out and shatter in turn. The chain keeps running until a drop produces no new win, which is where most tumbling mechanics would stop and hand control back.
Here it doesn’t, because Mystery Multiplier symbols can land on any reel during the sequence. Each one reveals a random value, and the range runs across two tiers:
- 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x
- 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x, 1000x
When BlastX ends, every visible Mystery Multiplier value is added together, and the total win from the entire sequence is multiplied by that combined figure. Two or three modest multipliers stacking on a long chain is where the base game’s real money sits. The top of that ladder is the game’s ceiling, and it’s a long way from the values that turn up most often.
The Hold & Win Bonus Game
Four or more SCATTER symbols trigger the Hold & Win Bonus Game, and the round is nothing like the base game that launched it. The reels and their symbols vanish entirely, replaced by 20 independent cells. Every symbol that lands on a cell upgrades that position’s multiplier tier along a progressive ladder:
- Marked (x1) on first landing
- x2, x4, x8, x16, x32, doubling infinitely from there
That ladder is the feature. A Cash Coin or Jackpot symbol landing on a cell has its base reward instantly multiplied by that cell’s current multiplier, so a coin arriving late on a well-upgraded cell pays several times what the same coin would pay on a fresh one.
The respin structure is standard for the format. You start with three respins, each new symbol resets the count to three, and each empty respin burns one. All bonus symbols pay out only during this round and disappear at the end of each respin, with one exception: the COIN COLLECTOR, which stays in place for the whole feature and swallows every coin with a cash or jackpot value.
At the end of each respin a MULTIPLIER COLLECTOR may also apply an x2, x3 or x4 multiplier to the collector itself, and the total win is read off that symbol when the round ends. What the coins carry:
- Cash coins worth from 1x up to 50x the bet
- MINI, MINOR, MAJOR and GRAND jackpots, with no fixed credit values attached
What’s promised is the doubling multiplier ladder rather than the jackpot ladder, and a GRAND landing on a cell sitting at x16 or higher is the scenario the whole round is built to sell.
HOLD & WIN Booster and Bonus Buy
The HOLD & WIN Booster is a toggle, not a feature round. Switch it on and three things change at once:
- Your total bet is multiplied by 1.5x
- The chance of triggering the bonus game triples
- Payline payouts stay exactly as they were
The boosted game runs at 95.04% RTP against the standard game’s 95.02%, so the uplift in trigger odds is close to fully priced in, and the extra half-bet per spin buys patience rather than value.
If you’d rather skip the waiting altogether, there are two direct purchases:
- HOLD & WIN Bonus Buy – 40x the current total bet, running at 95.10% RTP
- EXTREME HOLD & WIN Bonus Buy – 100x the current total bet, running at 95.12% RTP, with a higher chance of hitting top-tier multipliers in the round
Both buys edge the RTP up slightly, which is unusual enough to be worth knowing: the impatient option is marginally the better-returned one. The EXTREME variant is the only route to a genuinely upgraded round, and at two and a half times the standard buy’s price it demands some conviction about those top-tier multipliers.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
This is a slot you sit through to get somewhere. The drawn-out base game is the toll, and the bonus round is the destination, which feels oddly fitting for a game about a creature who comes knocking at midwinter whether you wanted him or not.
The strength is that the bonus round escalates with real intent. Because a cell’s multiplier keeps doubling every time it’s hit, a round that starts badly can still finish big, and that gives every respin a reason to matter long after most hold-and-win rounds have gone flat. The weakness is everything before the door: with no wild and a floor of eight matching symbols, the base game gives back very little while you wait.
So it suits the patient end of the room, the ones who like a long cold walk to a warm payoff and enjoy folklore with teeth in it. Anyone after a base game that entertains in its own right will find the forest here a little too quiet.
