Payday Megaways Slot Review 2024
Payday has come around and the big boss has a fat pay cheque with your name on it, in Payday Megaways by Relax Gaming partner, Storm Gaming!
Payday is probably the most exciting time of the month for most people, the stack of bills can finally get paid and you’re no longer needing to live off beans on toast because you’ve spent the majority of your last wages on expensive products and random gadgets you didn’t actually need. Will Payday Megaways see us better off this month with a cheeky win or two that will top up our rapidly depleting bank balance?
Storm Gaming are not as recognised as other Providers in the slots world, but with Relax Gaming by their side, they’re certainly on the right path. Storm Gaming has a selection of slots under their belt, you may be familiar with some of their branded titles like Dancing on Ice or Love Island slots, but the ones that stand out to us are Monster of Rock Megaways and Captain Cashfall Megaways.
In terms of theme, Payday Megaways has an old school vibe to it. The graphics aren’t great and the layout is a little cluttered, but oddly enough it works. The big boss can be seen sat at his desk in his office, smoking a cigar and revelling in his own wealth. The theme in Payday Megaways makes a nice change from the more obvious choice of themes, but will gameplay also bring something new to the table?
Let’s play on and find out!
Payday Megaways Betting and Symbols
Payday Megaways has a variety of betting options for players to choose from. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet avilable is £/€10 per spin, with a small choice of betting options in between the two. The maximum bet may not seem enough compared to other slots, but we feel this bet will be sufficient enough for most players.
The highest paying regular symbol in Payday Megaways is the Big Boss, followed by the #1 Ribbon, Money, Cigars and the Graph. Lower paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.
Wilds substitute for all symbols except Scatters. Wild symbols are only present on the Sliding Reel.
Payday Megaways Base Game and Features
Payday Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 ways to win. In order to form a win, you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
Payday Megaways features Cascading Reels. Each time a winnning combination is formed, all winning symbols will disappear from the reels and new symbols will fall down via a Cascade, filling all the empty positions, with the possibility of creating even more winning combinations.
In additon to this, Payday Megaways also has an additional Sliding Reel. Each time a winning combination has been formed, all winning symbols including those that were used in the Sliding Reel will be removed and all the remaining symbols on the slidding reel will shift one position to the left, filling all the empty positions.
The base game in Payday Megaways has some exciting features available. Mystery symbols are a typical feature to be seen in a Megaways slot, but Storm Gaming has also gone out of their way to bring us two additional features. More on these below.
Mystery Symbols
During any random spin in the base game, Mystery symbols can present themselves in any position on the reels.
Once this happens, all Mystery symbols in view will reveal the same high or low paying symbol, possibly forming a winning combination.
Pick Me Feature
Landing 3 Envelope symbols in any positon on the reels, triggers the Pick Me feature. This feature is pretty much identical to the Pick Me feature in Megaways Mob.
Once the Pick Me feature is triggered, you will need to choose 1 of the 3 Envelopes. Each Envelope has a unique Bet Multiplier inside it, which will be autimatically awarded and added to your current balance.
Promotions Feature
The third and final feature available in Payday Megaways is the Promotions feature, which can be triggered during any random base game spin.
There are 2 individual Modifiers that can be randomly awarded during the Promotions feature.
- Promotion – All low-paying symbols will are removed from the reels, leaving only high-paying and special symbols in play.
- Boss Spins – The Free Spins round can be triggered at random.
Payday Megaways Free Spins
Landing 4 Scatters in any position on the reels, triggers the Boss Free Spins round, awarding 12 Free Spins. Each additional Scatter after the initial 4, awards an extra +6 Free Spins.
Once the Free Spins round is triggered, you will start with a x1 Mutliplier which increases by +1 with each winning combination. The Pick Me feature is active during this round and can be triggered in the same way as the Base Game. Big wins can be expected if you manage to get the Multiplier to an impressive level and land a nice connection of high-paying symbols!
During the Free Spins round, you will have the opportunity to land a retrigger. Landing 3 or 4 Scatters, awards an additional +6 and +12 Free Spins.
Payday Megaways: Our Verdict
Payday Megaways has an appealing theme and plenty of potential, but there is not a lot of enthusiasm in the gameplay itself.
It’s important we mention the Pick Me and Promotion features, which definitely add some excitement to an otherwise dreary base game, but besides this, Payday Megaways is pretty much a reskin of Megaways Mob. We had high hopes for Payday Megaways but unfortunately it’s failed to deliver in certain areas.
Even the statistics leave you a little depressed, with a below average RTP of 95.18% and a slightly happier maximum win capacity of 10,650x. The maximum win capacity seen here is actually terrible compared to the impressive 76,000x we saw in Megaways Mob, but surprisingly the RTP is a lot higher here.
Given the chance, Payday Megaways has the ability to perfom quite well. Cascading reels and up to 117,649 ways to win all play a major part in helping you hit the maximum win. Of course it helps that Payday Megaways uses Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic, so if anyone deserves some credit it’s BTG for providing the mechanics Storm Gaming needed to make this slot possible.
All in all, if you’re a big fan of the Megaways mechanic, there is no reason why you wouldn’t enjoy Payday Megaways, unless you’re looking for the complete package in terms of statistics.
