Pilgrim of Dead Base Game

Pilgrim of Dead Base Game and Features

Pilgrim of Dead is a 5 reel slot with 10 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol (or 2 or more of any High-paying symbol) land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. Pilgrim of Dead has a theoretical RTP of 96.20% and a max win cap of 10,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol here is the Pharoah, followed by Anubis, Scales and Scarab Beetle. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten. Tomb Scatters act as Wilds, substiuting for all symbols except the Special Expanding symbol.

Typical of Book style slots, Pilgrim of Dead has nothing to offer in terms of base game features, other than the Gamble Feature. More on this below.

Gamble Feature

After each base game win, you will be given the option to Gamble your current win for more.

This can be done by guessing the correct Colour of Suit of a hidden playing Card. Guessing correctly awards a new Prize amount, but guessing incorrectly will result in a loss and current Prize amount will dissapear.

Pilgrim of Dead Exapnding Symbol

Pilgrim of Dead Free Spins

Landing 3 or more Tomb Scatters across the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 5 Free Spins. Landing 3 or more Scatters during Free Spins will award additional Free Spins, up to a maximum of 30.

At the start of Free Spins, a random High or Low-paying symbol from the paytable is chosen to become your Special Expanding symbol (excluding Scatter).

If you’re not happy with your chosen symbol, you can choose to randomize another symbol, but you will not be able to randomize again.

If your expanding symbol is a High-paying symbol, you will need a minimum of 2 instances to land on the reels in order for expansion to occur. If your expanding symbol is a Low-paying symbol, you will need a minimum of 3 instances to land on the reels in order for expansion to occur.

During Free Spins, expanded symbols will pay regardless of their position on the reels. When the first selected symbol lands on each reel, they will become Sticky, remaining in their position for the duration of Free Spins, in a 1×1 size.

Once enough of these symbols are present on the reels, they will then expand to fill all positions on their respective reel.

Pilgrim of Dead: Our Verdict

Pilgrim of Dead is a classic ‘of Dead’ game with some significant twists.

At first glance it might look like a more modern variant of some of the legacy games, like Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead, but if you’ve been following Play’n GO’s journey then you’ll know that they’re rather good at making these stand out in their own way.

Since the golden days of Book of Dead there have been countless variants, and Pilgrim of Dead joints the ranks as the latest to try its hand at recreating the success of the infamous Rich Wilde game.

The fundamentals are very much the same in Pilgrim of Dead, but the Free Spins comes with an option to re-roll your symbol, and significantly less spins are offered. The reason for less spins becomes rather obvious when you learn that special symbols stick. This is a very fair trade off in our opinion, and through testing it ourselves we regularly had a few ‘full screen dreams’ to speak of .

Statistically, Pilgrim of Dead looks pretty great with capabilities of up to 10,000x.

Overall, Pilgrim of Dead might not overtake the infamous Rich Wilde and his chilssled jaw line in terms of popularity, but it’s certainly not a drag, and we’re rather looking forward to its release.
