Base Game & Features
Rain & Ruin is a mid-high volatility release from Just Slots, consisting of 5 reels, 6 rows, and 40 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are constructed when 3-5 matching symbols land on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1, so long as they cover an active pay line.
The 10 paytable symbols, consisting of monsters, animals, and orbs, award fixed payouts between 0.1x and 7.5x your bet, where applicable. Please note that only the highest-paying win line is applied and paid out.
Additionally, regular Wild symbols appear on all reels and substitute for all symbols except Scatters. Lastly, Rival Reels also acts as Wilds, covering the entire reel they appear on.
Rival Reels Feature
During gameplay, when a Rival symbol lands upon a reel, it will expand to trigger the Rival Reels Feature, so long as it is part of at least 1 winning combination. Once active, the rival reel will expand to fill the entire reel, revealing two Multipliers between 2x and 500x your bet.
One multiplier is assigned to the King of Ruin and the other to the Queen of Rain, causing both parties to duel for the winning spot. Depending on which character wins, it will position its Multiplier in the centre of the expanded Wild.
If more than 1 Rival Reel is part of the same winning combination, both Multipliers are added together before being applied to the win.
Rain & Ruin Free Spins
The Free Spins mode is activated when 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols appear anywhere in the base game, awarding 10 Free Spins.
During this mode, different Rival Reels are available. If a Multiplier already exists above the reel, its value is added to the next available Rival Reel, up to 500x your bet. Depending on the number of triggering Scatters, the initial Multiplier above the reels is determined:
- 3 Scatters: Triggers the Free Spins mode without Reel Multipliers
- 4 Scatters: Awards a Multiplier of 10x your bet above each reel
- 5 Scatters: Awards a random Multiplier of 10x or more above each reel
Before any wins are applied, the value of Rival Reels & Reel Multipliers is added together. If more than 1 Rival Reel is part of the same winning combination, their Multipliers are added together before being applied to the win.
Finally, landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters awards an additional 10, 15, and 20 Free Spins, respectively.

Our Honest Verdict
Just Slots has set quite a high bar for itself after showing us its talents in games like Shogun Skylord and Unholy Mystery. Each time we catch wind of a new Just Slots release, we’re eager to get stuck in, which leads us to its next release, Rain & Ruin – a game that pits natural elements against each other in a duel for sizable payouts.
Keeping in tune with the creative theme, Just Slots has adopted impressive sounds and visuals, giving the effect of super-sharp Ultra HD. The imminent clash of the water and sand tornadoes gives players that ‘edge-of-your-seat experience, as does the climactic soundtrack.
In the base game, each spin can conjure up Rival Reels, causing an epic duel to ensue between the elements. The King of Ruin and the Queen of Rain will battle it out to initiate their current Multiplier between x2 and x500.
Without taking sides, you’ll naturally gravitate toward the highest-displayed Multiplier, whether that be the King of Ruin or the Queen of Rain. It’s a fair assumption to make that this feature is pretty much identical to Hacksaw Gaming’s DuelReels mechanic, albeit intentional or not.
Due to this, it’s hard to say which provider did it better. However, when it comes down to statistics, we’re claiming Rain & Ruin as the winner for its generous and rewarding 50,000x max win potential.
Just Slots has upped the ante through its Bonus Buy options, introducing a daring 1,500x your bet Free Spins mode, which guarantees a x100 Multiplier for every Rival Reel that appears in view. It’s a risky buy, but it’s also the most rewarding of the 3 options. Our only advice is to play responsibly when utilising any of the bonus buy options.
During the Free Spins mode, each reel adopts a random Multiplier between x0 and x100, depending on the number of triggering Scatters. Each time a new Rival Reel hits as part of a win, it will benefit from its respective reel multiplier, and vice versa, up to a maximum of x500.
