Raptor 2 DoubleMax Slot Review
Raptor 2 DoubleMax from Yggdrasil Gaming wastes no time showing its teeth, swooping in with a sequel that’s bolder & sharper than the original. Get ready for another strike, as this latest arrival pulls us back into the Jurassic era in pursuit of big wins & gripping DoubleMax Multipliers.
Fans of the original Raptor DoubleMax have been waiting a long time for Yggdrasil Gaming to deliver a follow-up to one of our favourite DoubleMax titles. While the gap between them has tested players’ patience everywhere, this long-overdue release may just prove to be worth it.
Since the release of Raptor DoubleMax, the DoubleMax mechanic has grown in stature, proving its versatility across Yggdrasil Gaming’s own hits like Neon Villains and Nice Catch 2, as well as partner-powered releases from Peter & Sons and Reflex Gaming.
This highly anticipated release builds upon the DoubleMax foundation by escalating tension, anchored by the returning DoubleMax Multiplier, which can now surge to an impressive x2,048 in a single spin.
This experience comes complete with a high volatility rating, an RTP ranging from 90.50% to 97.00% depending on the casino’s chosen version and a healthy max win potential of 9,493x your bet. These statistics reinforce that Raptor 2 DoubleMax is built for players who relish that high-risk, high-reward atmosphere…
Base Game & Features
Raptor 2 DoubleMax is a highly volatile 5-reel, 3-row video slot with 243 ways to win. Winning combinations form when 3, 4, or 5 matching symbols land on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel.
The Brown Dinosaur delivers the highest payouts, with the Pink, Green, & Blue Dinosaurs following in value. Spades, Diamonds, Hearts, & Clubs serve as the lower-paying symbols during gameplay. When a winning combination lands, the game awards a fixed payout between 0.3x and 0.7x your bet.
After a winning combination is paid, all contributing symbols are cleared from the grid through the Avalanche Feature, & a single Wild symbol is placed in one of the empty positions. New symbols then drop in from above to refill the remaining spaces.
DoubleMax Multiplier
A special DoubleMax Multiplier sits to the left of the main reel set, beginning at x1. During any game session, the DoubleMax Multiplier climbs to a maximum of x2,048.
In the base game, every winning combination increases the multiplier to the next value, which only resets once after a losing avalanche event. In Free Spins, the DoubleMax Multiplier continues to climb through the values without resetting between spins, which remains active until the end of the feature.
Raptor 2 DoubleMax: Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters anywhere during the base game triggers the Free Spins mode, awarding the following outcomes:
- 3 Scatters: Awards a payout of 2x your bet, 5 Free Spins, and a standard 5×3 matrix
- 4 Scatters: Awards a payout of 3x your bet, 15 Free Spins, and an expanded 5×5 matrix
- 5 Scatters: Awards a payout of 5x your bet, 15 Free Spins, and an expanded 5×7 matrix
During the Free Spins session, landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters will trigger the Reel Expansion feature, so long as the reels are set below 7. Once this happens, the current state of the matrix will increase by +2 Rows at the top. When 5 Scatters hit, an additional +1 Free Spin is awarded.
After expansion, each Scatter symbol is removed from the reels via the Avalanche Feature, causing new symbols to drop in from above. Please note that the removal of Scatter symbols will not enhance the DoubleMax Multiplier.
Bonus Buy
Players can participate in several Bonus Buy options as follows:
- Free Spins 1: Awards 5 Free Spins and a 5×3 grid format for 80x your bet
- Free Spins 2: Awards 15 Free Spins and a 5×5 grid format for 240x your bet
- Free Spins 3: Awards 15 Free Spins and a 5×7 grid format for 880x your bet
Raptor 2 DoubleMax has a maximum win potential of 9,493x your bet. If a single mode achieves this, the player returns to the base game with the qualifying amount.
Our Honest Verdict
Raptor 2 DoubleMax, the long-awaited sequel to Yggrdasil Gaming’s much-loved 2021 release, Raptor DoubleMax, arrives with considerable anticipation, marking the start of a great year for the provider. When testing the game for ourselves, we found the same electric impact that made the original such a fan favourite.
Visually, it’s a clear step in the right direction, optimising quality artwork, sharper soundscapes, & a richer Jurassic aesthetic that feels more polished and atmospheric. Although the prehistoric setting is widely used across the iGaming industry, Yggdrasil has successfully put its own mark on it while preserving the core structure & identity that defined the original release.
The DoubleMax Multiplier remains the centrepiece of gameplay, but its behaviour now gives the sequel a more explosive footing. In a single spin, the DoubleMax Multiplier can surpass the x1,024 level from the original release and climb to a whopping x2,048. This upgrade shifts the volatility profile & win potential.
While Yggdrasil has retained the traditional 5-reel format, the switch from pay lines to 243 ways to win, which can exceed 16,807 in Free Spins, brings a more dynamic structure, strengthening the game’s overall performance.
During Free Spins, the expanding reels mechanic adds a meaningful layer to gameplay. For a 4 & 5 Scatter trigger, the reels expand to 5×5 and 5×7, respectively. This expansion materially improves each player’s chances of landing higher-paying connections, giving the DoubleMax Multiplier far more wiggle room to climb, which is all the more important given that it does not reset between spins.
In an unexpected shift, Raptor DoubleMax 2 has a noticeably lower max win potential of 9,493x when compared to the 20,000x max win in the original release. Although this is not entirely new to us, this figure comes as a surprise for a sequel slot, especially when follow-up games typically push higher maths models rather than setting them back.
