Shifting Seas Slot Review 2024

Ahoy there mateys! Get ready to set sail on an epic Pirate adventure with Thunderkick in their latest release, Shifting Seas!

Among the rough seas and dangerous beaches awaits glorious treasure only worthy of a true Pirate, but will we be successful? Shifting Seas has up to 117,649 ways to win along with plenty of action-packed features including Shifting reels, Special Wild and Avalanche features.

The Pirate theme is quite a common choice with Providers along with Egyptian and Wild West themes. Of course the theme plays a small part in determining a slots success, but what really sells a slot is features and statistics and we have a feeling Shifting Seas will tick all those boxes.

Thunderkick is a Swedish provider which was founded in 2012. Since then, Thunderkick has become a popular Provider amongst players thanks to titles like Pink Elephants, Flame Busters, Riders of the Storm and their impressive Beast the Beast series, but will Shifting Seas further compliment their growing portfolio?

Looking further into the theme, Shifting Seas is another Thunderkick title to take on the cartoon style graphics which seems to be a recurring trend. The background shows a view of spectacular islands, shimmering seas and clear skies which further compliments the theme. Another nice touch is the sound effects and music which really get you in the treasure-hunting mood.

Will Shifting Seas leave a lasting impression? Let’s play on and find out!

Shifting Seas Base Game

Shifting Seas Base Game and Features

Shifting Seas is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 ways to win. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more of the same symbol types from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty other betting options in between the two.

Shifting Seas has a rather interesting Shifting Reels mechanic. Each time a winning combination is formed or the Boost Shift feature is active, the right-most reel will disappear and a new reel will appear on the left hand side of the reel set, expanding the ways to win. In addition to this, once all winning symbols are removed from the reels, new symbols will drop down via an Avalanche. Once an Avalanche occurs, there is a chance it will create even more winning combinations.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Shifting Seas is the Gold Treasure Chest with the Red Gem, followed by Pirates with Purple, Green and Pink backgrounds and a Parrot. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine. There is also Wild symbols present, which substitute for all symbols except Scatters.

Thunderkick has never been one to disappoint when it comes to base game features and Shifting Seas is no different with a Special Wilds feature. More on this below!

Special Wilds Feature

During the base game, if a Special Wild symbol is used as part of a winning combination or gets pushed off reel set, the Special Wilds feature is triggered. Activating more than one Special Wild symbol will play out in a specific order.

  • Boost Shift – Activates an extra Reel Shift that adds a new reel to the left-most position. All symbols in the reel that was previously in the left-most position will be copied to the new reel.
  • Symbol Rush – Randomly transforms between 4 and 8 symbols on any reel into new matching symbols.
  • Wild Surge – Randomly transforms between 1 and 3 symbols on any reel into Wild symbols.

Shifting Seas Free Spins

If during the base game a Shift Win happpens to push a Scatter symbol out, the Free Spins round is automatically triggered and players will be awarded 8 Free Spins. The Free Spins round will begin once the Shift Win is complete.

During the Free Spins round, a Wild Reel feature may appear on any random reel. Initially the Wild Reel will start on the left-most reel and will shift one position to the right with each Shift Win. The Wild Reel will always follow the reel movements and carries with it a Multiplier starting at x1.

If a Shift Win happens to push the Wild Reel off the end it will reappear on the left-most reel again, upgrading the Multiplier by +1 and awarding +1 Free Spin.

During the Free Spins round, if a Shift Win pushes out a Scatter symbol, you will be awarded an additional +4 Free Spins.

Shifting Seas: Our Verdict

Thunderkick are a provider that releases slots slowly, having taken their time to ensure a quality product, rather than a large quantity of them like other providers.

When a Thunderkick title finally does come along, it’s safe to say that we’re rather excited. Forget not that Thunderkick were the great minds behind timeless slots like Riders of the Storm, the Beat the Beast Series, Midas Golden Touch and Pink Elephants. More recently, they’ve brought us titles like Pyramyth, Gods of  Rock, Fortune Cats Golden Stacks and Lava Lava, with each of them packaged neatly in that quality Thunderkick wrapping paper.

But how does their latest swashbuckling Shifting Seas Compare to those before it? and is it still consistent with what we’ve come to expect from Thunderkick? Thankfully, the answer there is yes.

Boost Shift, Symbol Rush and Wild Surge features diversifies the gameplay for an exciting base game experience, and the Wild Reels Feature in the Free Spins round amps up the excitement even further.

In terms of potential, Shifting Seas should look respectable enough to any wannabe buccaneer, with up to 15,000x possible.

Overall, Shifting Seas is as enjoyable and respectable as you’d expect from a Thunderkick title, and another to be excited about.
