Base Game & Features
Steamin’ Reels is a highly volatile 5-reel, 3-row video slot with 10 fixed pay lines. Wins occur when 3, 4, or 5 matching symbols appear on adjoining reels, starting from the first, so long as they connect to winning pay lines.
The Conductor Hat is the highest-paying symbol, followed by the Sheriff Badge, Boots, Cactus, and A, K, Q, J, & 10 card suits. When a win aligns on the reels, a fixed payout between 0.5x and 250x your bet is awarded.
Additionally, Wild symbols appear on all reels and substitute for paytable symbols except Scatters, Station Master, & Crossing symbols. Scatter symbols trigger the Free Spins mode when they appear anywhere on the reels.
Scatters
During each base game spin, if there are no Scatters available, a Signalman may randomly appear and transform 3 or more symbols into Scatters, thus triggering the Free Spins mode. Alternatively, if there are 2 Scatters in view, a third Scatter may appear in a random position after the initial spin.
Steamin’ Reels: Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters anywhere in the base game triggers the Free Spins mode, awarding 10, 15, & 20 Free Spins, respectively.
In this mode, a Train displaying 3 Carriages is revealed on the screen, containing random Cash Prizes between 5x and 500x your bet. Each carriage may also contain the following Modifiers:
- Golden Ticket: Collecting 3 Golden Tickets awards a further +10 Free Spins and an increased Multiplier of x2, x5, and x10 for Levels 2, 3, & 4, respectively.
- Crossing: Awards the total Cash Prizes upon each carriage before being transformed into a Station Master symbol.
- Station Master: Carries a random multiplier of x2, x3, or x5, which applies to the value of all Cash Prizes within each carriage.

Our Honest Verdict
Steamin’ Reels has us swapping fishing rods for a whistle-stop tour of the Wild West, but is this detour truly worth the ride? Much like Big Juan, this game delivers Cash Prizes and a compelling Free Spins mode, though players will quickly recognise certain mechanics & tendencies that are similar to the Big Bass series.
Steamin’ Reels looks great, but style can’t mask the fairly thin gameplay experience. The Scatter Boost adds some novelty, but the Ante Bet mechanics were the only saving grace, in our opinion.
During Free Spins, a Collection format similar to the Big Bass series takes centre stage, with Golden Tickets playing a pivotal role in enabling retriggers and increasing the Win Multiplier. The 5,000x max win potential ultimately provides the game with its strongest hook, especially for those playing on higher bet levels.
All in all, Steamin’ Reels doesn’t quite capture the depth of the Big Bass series, but it still provides a refreshing change of scenery that long-term players will certainly appreciate.
