Temple Guardians

Temple Guardians Slot Review

Pragmatic Play continues to release slots that combine accessible gameplay with distinct mechanical hooks. Temple Guardians, launched in June 2025, positions itself as an adventure-themed title where the Hold & Respin feature-rather than free spins alone-drives the appeal. The jungle setting and mystical atmosphere create a solid thematic foundation, though the real engagement lies in how the Money Symbols mechanic unfolds during bonus rounds.

Base Game & Features

Temple Guardians operates on a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines, offering a straightforward layout familiar to most players. The game supports flexible betting from £0.10 to £250 per spin, making it accessible across different bankroll levels. Spin frequency feels steady during base gameplay, though the feature-focused design means the real action resides within the bonus mechanic rather than base game modifiers.

Special Symbols

Wild Symbols appear during base game spins only, substituting for all paytable symbols except Money Icons. They provide standard win support during regular play but don’t carry into the bonus feature, where Money Symbols take centre stage.

The design choice to isolate wilds to the base game reflects Pragmatic Play’s focus on the Hold & Respin mechanic. It keeps base play straightforward whilst reserving complexity for when Money Symbols land.

Bonus Features & Free Spins

Temple Guardians features two bonus avenues: a primary Hold & Respin feature and a secondary free spins round. The Hold & Respin mechanic dominates the game’s appeal, where Money Symbols drive the win potential.

Hold & Respin Feature

Landing 5 or more Money Symbols triggers the Hold & Respin bonus. The feature begins with 3 respins, resetting each time a new Money Symbol lands. During the feature, only Money Symbols and blank spaces spin, creating a focused mechanic that builds tension around symbol accumulation.

Money Symbols come in three types, each with distinct mechanics:

• Purple Money Symbols: Award individual values ranging from 0.5x to 500x stake
• Green Money Symbols: Display the sum of all visible purple symbols
• Blue Money Symbols: Show the total of all purple and green symbols in view

Filling the entire grid during the Hold & Respin feature awards an additional 2,000x prize, providing a secondary pathway to substantial wins beyond symbol accumulation. This grid-fill mechanic encourages extended play during the feature, adding strategic depth to what could otherwise feel like a passive bonus round.

Bonus Buy & Feature Purchase

Players can purchase direct entry into the Hold & Respin feature for 70x the current stake, known as the Bonus Buy option. When purchased, the game guarantees 5 to 7 Money Symbols to initiate the feature immediately from the base game.

Importantly, selecting this option increases the RTP to 96.56%, a modest boost above the standard 96.53% RTP. The feature purchase appeals to impatient players or those specifically chasing the Hold & Respin mechanic without waiting for natural triggers.

Free Spins

Free spins are triggered by landing 3 or more scatter symbols, awarding 10 initial spins with the potential for retriggers. During the free spins round, expanding symbols and multiplier enhancements provide opportunities for bigger payouts. However, the Hold & Respin feature remains the mechanical centrepiece-free spins function as a secondary bonus rather than the main attraction.

Our Honest Verdict

Temple Guardians occupies a specific niche within Pragmatic Play’s portfolio: a medium-volatility offering built primarily around the Hold & Respin mechanic rather than feature-packed free spins. The 96.53% RTP (or 96.56% with Feature Buy) sits competitively, and the 10,000x maximum win potential appeals to players chasing bigger multipliers. The Money Symbols system-with its three tiers of accumulation-delivers genuine interactivity during bonus play, rewarding attention during the respins sequence.

The trade-off is clear: base game engagement remains limited, with the Hold & Respin feature acting as the sole mechanical hook. For players seeking consistent action or varied modifiers throughout base spins, Temple Guardians may feel sparse. The game’s slow-and-steady pace, combined with medium volatility, won’t satisfy those seeking the most frequent smaller wins or rapid feature triggers.

Temple Guardians will appeal to medium-volatility players comfortable with a moderate ebb and flow between features and to players who appreciate mechanic depth within bonus rounds. The combination of interactive Money Symbols, reasonable RTP, and 10,000x win ceiling makes it suitable for measured bankroll management. Those new to Pragmatic Play or preferring less focused gameplay will likely find more engaging titles elsewhere in the catalogue. The game’s June 2025 launch positions it as a solid but not groundbreaking addition to the developer’s recent releases.
