The Golden Sword – Brasil Jackpot Slot Review
The jackpots are the least interesting thing about The Golden Sword – Brasil Jackpot. That’s a strange thing to say about a game with four progressives in its title, but they’re a random drop that’s locked out of every feature – it’s the free spins round, with its scatter-driven mini reels, that does the real design work here.
It’s a high volatility release with an RTP of 94.06%, and the maximum win is 8,000x the bet. What the spec sheet doesn’t show is how the pieces fit together: a wild with a variable multiplier, a free spins round built on an unusual scatter-driven award system, and a jackpot game that can drop at the end of any spin.
Whether that machinery gels is the question this review answers. The short version: the free spins round is the best-designed part of the game, the jackpot bonus is the loudest, and the paytable beneath both is honest but unremarkable.
Base Game & Features
The base game runs on a 5×3 grid with 20 paylines, paying left to right, with only the highest winning combination on each line counting. The symbol ladder is a familiar royal-and-character setup, topped by a crowned King at 20x the line bet for five of a kind.
The full paying schedule, per the game’s own paytable:
- King (blonde, crown) – 3 pays 2x, 4 pays 6x, 5 pays 20x
- Queen (red-haired woman) – 3 pays 1.5x, 4 pays 4.5x, 5 pays 15x
- Masked Man – 3 pays 1.5x, 4 pays 3.75x, 5 pays 12.5x
- Crown – 3 pays 1x, 4 pays 2.5x, 5 pays 10x
- Treasure Chest – 3 pays 0.75x, 4 pays 1.75x, 5 pays 7.5x
- Golden Goblet – 3 pays 0.5x, 4 pays 1x, 5 pays 5x
- A, K – 3 pays 0.25x, 4 pays 0.5x, 5 pays 2.5x
- Q, J, 10 – 3 pays 0.1x, 4 pays 0.25x, 5 pays 1.25x
Wild Multipliers
The wild appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 only and substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. The interesting part is what it carries: a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x that applies to the total win of the spin. If more than one wild lands in a winning spin, their multipliers add together rather than multiply.
That additive rule is worth knowing. Two wilds at 5x each give a 10x spin, not 25x. It keeps the base game’s ceiling honest, and it means a single 10x wild is the best individual outcome the reels can hand you outside the features.
Jackpot Bonus Game
Up to four progressive jackpots run simultaneously: MINOR, MAJOR, MEGA and GRAND. The bonus triggers at random at the end of any spin in the base game, with a minimum bet of 0.20 required to be eligible. There’s no symbol collection, no meter – it’s a pure random drop.
When it hits, the winning jackpot is revealed on a bonus screen by opening items until you uncover three with the same name. One restriction matters: jackpots cannot be won during any feature. The drop only happens on base game spins, which is a meaningful design choice on a game where the free spins round is otherwise the main event.
The Golden Sword – Brasil Jackpot Free Spins
Triggering the Round
Three scatter symbols trigger the free spins round, but the award system is unusual. Before the round starts, three mini reels appear for every scatter that triggered the feature. Each mini reel contains a possible award of 1, 2 or 3 free spins, all of them spin, and the total is what you play.
So a three-scatter trigger isn’t a flat number. It’s a lottery between three and nine free spins before you’ve seen a single one of them. It’s a genuinely distinctive piece of design, and it means two otherwise identical triggers can start rounds of very different value.
Sticky Wilds and the Growing Multiplier
During the round, a general win multiplier applies to the total win of every spin. Wilds can still hit carrying a multiplier, but they behave differently here: every wild that lands remains sticky until the end of the round, and the general multiplier increases by whatever that wild carries.
The compounding is the point. Each sticky wild both fills the reels for future spins and pushes the round-wide multiplier up. A run of wilds early can turn a modest spin count into something considerably larger by the end.
Retriggers
Scatters appear only on reels 1 and 5 during the round. When both hit, the mini reels return – three per triggering scatter, each awarding 1, 2 or 3 spins – and the total is added to the current round. There is no limit to the number of retriggers. Special reels are in play throughout, which changes the symbol mix from the base game.
Buy Free Spins
Players who don’t want to wait can trigger the free spins round instantly from the base game. The buy price is 100x the current total bet. Given that a natural trigger can award as few as three spins, that price asks a lot of the sticky-wild compounding to pay it back.
This is a buy for players who specifically want the multiplier-building mechanic, not a shortcut to guaranteed value.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.9/10
Every spin here asks you to accept a low RTP, a paytable that tops out at 20x and a base game with modest ceilings, in exchange for one very well-built free spins round and a lottery ticket. That trade only makes sense for a specific player.
The free spins round is the best thing in the game. Mini reels decide the spin count, sticky wilds build a round-wide multiplier, and unlimited retriggers give it a real ceiling. Nothing else comes close. The jackpot bonus, for all its billing, can’t be won during any feature – the headline attraction is locked out of the game’s best moment, which tells you where Pragmatic Play’s effort actually went.
So take a side: jackpot hunters chasing progressives from a 0.20 bet have a reason to play. Players who judge slots by their base game or their bonus-buy value don’t – 100x for as few as three spins is poor value, and the reels between features are thin. One excellent mechanic, padded with a lottery. Find the mechanic if it appeals, but know what you’re paying for it.
