The Shopaholic Slot Review
Marble floors, a gold-trimmed escalator, mannequins in evening gowns and a blonde in sunglasses posing with armfuls of bags: The Shopaholic sets its stall in an upscale shopping arcade and doesn’t hold back on the gold. The interesting thing about this game is how little of it happens on the reels. Almost everything you’d actually play it for is decided by three bags sitting above them.
Underneath the retail trappings this is a hold-and-win respin game through and through, and the shopping bags are the whole engine. Betsoft have built it on a 5×3 grid with 25 fixed paylines, a 10,000x round cap and a four-tier prize ladder, and it sits in familiar company alongside The VIP and Tycoons Billionaire Bucks, their other flights into moneyed living. Whether the bags deliver more than window shopping is what decides this one.
The Base Game and Paytable
Wins pay left to right across the 25 lines, with only the highest combination on each line counting and coinciding wins on different lines added together. The wild is a woman in sunglasses who appears on all reels and substitutes for everything except the shopping bag bonus symbols. She also pays the most of any symbol, at 0.6x the total bet for three, 3x for four and 10x for five.
The rest of the paytable, in credits at a bet of 2.00:
- Red jewel bracelet box – 0.80 for three, 4.00 for four, 16.00 for five Pink watch – 0.40 for three, 2.00 for four, 10.00 for five Orange quilted bag – 0.40 for three, 2.00 for four, 10.00 for five White quilted bag – 0.40 for three, 2.00 for four, 10.00 for five Necklace – 0.40 for three, 0.80 for four, 4.00 for five Perfume bottle – 0.40 for three, 0.80 for four, 4.00 for five Makeup compact – 0.40 for three, 0.80 for four, 4.00 for five High heel shoes – 0.40 for three, 0.80 for four, 4.00 for five
That’s a flat paytable by any measure. Even a full line of wilds returns ten times the stake, so the base game’s job is plainly to keep the lights on while the bags do the earning.
Three of the four symbols in the top half of the table are bags or things you’d carry one in, which at least keeps the theme honest.
The Shopping Bags
Three shopping bags sit above the reels, labelled BOOST, MULTI and DOUBLE. Each one collects its corresponding bag bonus symbols as they land, and every time a matching symbol occurs the bag has a random chance to trigger the Hold & Win feature. More than one bag can fire at once.
When several do, the game applies them in a fixed order: DOUBLE first, then BOOST, then MULTI. Each bag does something different once the feature is running:
- BOOST BAG – randomly increases the values on bonus symbols already on screen. At least two are guaranteed a boost, others may follow, and the same symbol can only be increased once per respin. MULTI BAG – scatters multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x or 10x into random positions. A multiplier landing on an existing one combines the values, capped at 20x; once every position has reached 20x, further scattering is ignored. DOUBLE BAG – duplicates the entire board, bonus symbols, values and positions included. Each board then runs independently with its own respin counter.
The bag bonus symbols themselves never show up during the feature, and the gold coin bonus symbols never show up in the base game. The two never share a screen, which keeps the rounds cleanly separated.
Hold & Win Feature
When the feature triggers, all shopping bag bonus symbols on the reels transform into gold coin bonus symbols and the round begins. The rules of the round, in order:
- The round opens with three respins, played at the bet of the triggering spin. Every new coin that lands anywhere on the reels locks in place and resets the respin count back to three. Each coin carries a cash value from 2.00 to 40.00 depending on the triggering bet, or one of the four prize tiers. Payable symbols don’t appear at all while the round plays. A board ends when it runs out of respins or all 15 positions are locked, at which point every locked value and prize pays out. If DOUBLE BAG is active, each board follows that end rule on its own.
The Prize Ladder
Four tiers sit above the reels, each tied to the coins rather than to a separate picking round. All four pay per matching locked coin, quoted at a bet of 2.00:
- MINI – 40.00, awarded for each locked MINI coin MINOR – 80.00, awarded for each locked MINOR coin MAJOR – 300.00, awarded for each locked MAJOR coin GRAND – 8,000.00, awarded for locking all 15 positions on a board
Because the tiers pay per locked coin rather than once per round, a screen full of MINORs is worth more than a single MAJOR. The GRAND is the one to chase, and with DOUBLE BAG active there are two boards chasing it at once, each on its own counter.
Stacked MULTI BAG multipliers up to 20x apply on top of coin values, which is where the arithmetic gets interesting. BOOST and DOUBLE together can raise coin values on both boards at once.
Bonus Buy
There are two buys on the panel:
- Hold & Win Feature – 140.00, with one guaranteed shopping bag and up to three able to trigger Super Hold & Win Feature – 320.00, with all three bags guaranteed
The gap between the two is really a bet on the bags themselves. One bag gives you a single modifier; three puts DOUBLE, BOOST and MULTI all in play, which is the only configuration where the round cap becomes a realistic conversation rather than a theoretical one. Reaching the cap ends the round immediately and forfeits whatever features remain.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing The Shopaholic is mostly waiting for the arcade to empty out. The reels themselves are a formality, and you come to this game for one reason: three bags over the reels that can stack a doubled board, boosted coins and 20x multipliers into a single respin round. Nothing else on the screen pays like that combination can.
The strength is variety. Where most respin games give you one round and one ladder, this one layers three modifiers in a fixed order, and every trigger feels slightly different depending on which bags turn up. The weakness is what sits between the features: a paytable so flat that the base game is little more than a coin-flip on the next trigger.
For coin-collectors who don’t mind lean reels between rounds, it’s an easy game to like. Players who want the spinning itself to entertain them should keep walking past this shop window.
