Mjolnir the mighty strikes once again in PearFiction Studios‘ Treasures of Mjolnir.
Mjolnir is the legendary Hammer wielded by Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, Storms and Protection. It was crafted by the legendary Dwarves Sindri and Brokkr as a gift to the gods. The mighty hammer is said to be unstoppable, and it can be wielded only by the worthy, or Captain America, if Marvel has anything to do with it.
We’d lift Mjolnir, easily in fact. We might, in fact, head on over to the publicly editable Wikipedia section on Mjolnir after this review to declare ourselves as its rightful wielders.
In reality, it wouldn’t budge an inch for us, but perhaps PearFiction Studios can bend the rules and allow us to see its full power in all its majesty in Treasures of Mjolnir.
Treasures of Mjolnir is a 5-reel slot offering up some of PearFiction’s staple mechanics, including Lock N Win UpZones and a rather enticing Jackpot Feature. Win up to 5,000x the bet in this highly volatile slot…if you’re worthy.
Base Game & Features
Treasures of Mjolnir is a 5-reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. Winning combinations happen when at least 3 of any paying symbol match from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the left-most reel.
The highest paying symbol is Odin, followed by Freya, Thor and one of Odin’s Ravens, or the Purple, Red, Green and Blue symbols, for simplicity. The highest paying symbol is the purple symbol, offering 10x the bet for a full line. The lowest paying symbols are A, K, Q & J.
There are also Wild Symbols, which substitute for High and Low paying regular symbols.
Wild Burst Feature
At the top of the reels, a spin counter tracks player progression, starting at 50 and counting down to 0. With each spin, the counter decreases by one. Once the counter reaches 0, the Wild Burst features become unlocked. The counter then resets and continues cycling until all available Wild Burst features have been unlocked, at which point it is removed from the game.
During gameplay, players can land Wild Burst symbols, which trigger a random unlocked Wild Burst feature. Two types of Thunder symbols, Regular Thunder and Double Thunder, are available from the first spin. Both create an electric zone on the reels, turning all symbols within that zone into Wilds. The Regular Thunder symbol has no additional effects, while the Double Thunder symbol adds an extra Wild Burst symbol and generates an electric zone.
- Respin: Unlocked after 50 spins. When triggered, the Respin symbol locks all winning combinations and respins the remaining reels. If there are no non-winning symbols left to respin, the total value of the initial spin is awarded again.
- No Low Wild Burst Feature: Unlocked after 100 Spins. When activated, the No Low symbol removes all low-value symbols from the reels, which then cascade, allowing new symbols to drop into place.
- Wild Stacks Feature: Unlocked after 150 spins. When triggered, the Wild Stacks symbol converts between one and three reels into full stacks of wilds. Any existing wilds or Wild Burst symbols on these reels are upgraded to x2 wilds.
- Wild Multiplier: Unlocked after 200 spins. This feature upgrades any wild or Wild Burst symbols on the reels into multiplier wilds, ranging from x2 to x10. These multipliers are additive when part of the same winning combination.
Treasures of Mjolnir: UpZones Lock’n Win Feature
The UpZones Lock’n Win feature may randomly trigger during gameplay when Bonus symbols are collected into their corresponding Bonus Pots above the reels. There are four types of Bonus symbols: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond. Each symbol contributes to the growth of its respective Bonus Pot.
As Bonus symbols are collected, the visual size of the Bonus Pots increases. However, this visual growth does not influence the probability of the feature triggering. Only one UpZones Lock’n Win feature can be triggered at a time.
Each Bonus Pot corresponds to a specific feature tier, with a set number of spins and UpZones when triggered:
- Bronze: 3 Spins – 3 UpZones
- Silver: 4 Spins – 4 UpZones
- Gold: 5 Spins – 5 UpZones
- Diamond: 6 Spins – 6 UpZones
When a feature is triggered, players have the option to gamble their current tier for the chance to upgrade to a higher-tier feature, gaining additional spins and UpZones. A successful gamble results in an upgrade to the next tier, while an unsuccessful gamble ends the feature with no payout.
Each tier has a defined upgrade chance:
- Bronze to Silver: 57.85%
- Silver to Gold: 59.71%
- Gold to Diamond: 66.54%
The Diamond feature is the highest tier and cannot be gambled. Once triggered, it plays out with its default six spins and six UpZones.
The UpZones Lock’n Win feature plays on a 5×4 reel set with an additional top row containing special symbols. It activates randomly when Bonus symbols are collected into the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond Bonus Pots.
During this feature, Coin symbols appear only in the main reel area, with values ranging from 0.5x to 100x the total bet. These Coins activate UpZones, which are highlighted reel positions. Landing a Coin in an UpZone triggers a spin of the top row and adds another UpZone to the reels.
The top row spins horizontally and includes five possible symbols:
- Collect: Collects all visible Coins
- Boost: Increases all Coin values by 1x–25x bet
- Multiplier: Multiplies a random Coin by 2x–100x (non-stackable)
- Spin: Awards +2 to +3 spins
- Jackpot: Triggers the Jackpot feature
The feature ends when either all reel positions are filled or all spins are used.
Jackpot Wheel
The Jackpot Wheel may be triggered by collecting Jackpot Coins in the base game. There are four types: Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega. Multiple coins of the same type can land in a single spin. Each coin increases the value of its corresponding jackpot by 1x the total bet.
When triggered, the Jackpot Wheel guarantees one of the four jackpots:
- Mini: Starts at 10x bet, capped at 25x
- Minor: Starts at 25x bet, capped at 100x
- Major: Starts at 250x bet, capped at 500x
- Mega: Starts at 2500x bet, capped at 5000x
Only one Jackpot Wheel spin can occur at a time, even if multiple coins are collected. After a jackpot is awarded, its value resets to the starting amount. The progress bar shown on-screen is for visual purposes only and does not affect the chance of triggering a jackpot.
Bonus Buy
The Buy Feature is available in the base game only and is not accessible above a certain bet threshold. Eligible players can choose a desired UpZones Lock’n Win level from the buy menu, with each option instantly triggering the selected feature.
Available buy options include:
- Bronze UpZones LockNWin: 36.48x bet
- Silver UpZones LockNWin: 62.49x bet
- Gold UpZones LockNWin: 104.13x bet
- Diamond UpZones LockNWin: 156.50x bet
- Mystery UpZones LockNWin: 42.12x bet
The Mystery option randomly triggers one of the four feature levels.
Our Honest Verdict
Players of the recent Alpha Gods Anubis will be fairly familiar with what to expect here. Except for their relative themes, Treasures of Mjolnir is a dead ringer for Alpha Gods Anubis. The Wild Burst Feature has a couple of differences, but some of its features are exactly the same, such as the Wild Stack and Wild Multiplier.s
The bonus round is where the similarities become glaring, offering up more of the UpZone mechanic. To us, the UpZone mechanic and the wheel that comes with it are a great feature. It can turn relatively small instant wins into something quite exciting, exponential even.
Treasures of Mjolnir also offers multi-tiered bonuses, which offer more or fewer UpZones, depending on the mode triggered. This pot-style gameplay is pretty popular right now, but this isn’t the kind where different pots can trigger in unison. Only one may trigger at any time, and they’re more or less the same, except for the active zones, of course.
The potential here is fair – 5,000x the bet. Pretty standard stuff, and we suspect that any max wins will come from its Jackpot Wheel, which can increase in value.
Overall, it’s a good game. It’s not for everyone and won’t particularly impress the innovation hunters, but it hits the right chord for many.
