Vikings Go To Hell Slot Review
Beneath a snarling stone mask with ice-blue eyes, four Vikings stare down from the reels towards the underworld, and this slot gives them the whole descent to get there. Vikings Go To Hell is Yggdrasil‘s darkest entry in the series after Egypt and Olympus, and its best idea is that it remembers you: rage meters carry between sessions, so the warband you left mid-campaign is the one waiting when you return. Few slots of its era built the return visit into the maths at all.
It runs on a 5×4 grid with 25 paylines, an RTP of 96.1%, low volatility and a 5,500x ceiling. That pairing is the whole story: gentle maths wrapped around boss fights, rage meters that persist between sessions, and sticky wilds stacked through two levels of free spins. The climb is a long one.
Base Game & Features
The reels carry four Viking symbols and four weapon symbols, with wins for three or more matched left to right on any of the 25 lines. Stakes run from 0.10 to 125 per spin. A wild substitutes for everything except the Free Spin symbol, and it turns sticky whenever free spins or a respin is running.
The symbol pays below are quoted at the default 1.25 stake:
- Red-haired Viking (axe): 1.50 / 3.75 / 7.50 for three, four, five
- Bearded Viking: 1.25 / 3.00 / 6.25
- Green-cloaked Viking: 1.00 / 2.50 / 5.00
- Blonde Viking: 0.75 / 2.50 / 5.00
- Red sword shield and purple axe shield: 0.25 / 1.50 / 3.00
- Green axe shield and blue shield: 0.25 / 1.25 / 2.50
Demon Fights and Respins
Land two Free Spin symbols anywhere and a demon appears to fight every Viking on the reels. Each Viking that wins its fight turns into a wild and banks one rage point for its own collection. Two symbols also trigger a respin, with all wilds held sticky for it.
Respins can retrigger. Two more Free Spin symbols during a respin set off another one, and the sticky wilds carry over. It’s a small mechanic with outsized effects: a lucky chain can lock most of the grid in place before the free spins even arrive.
Rage Collection
Every wild earned in a fight, against a regular demon or either boss, adds one rage point to that Viking’s meter. Fill a meter to 100 points and that Viking awards 7 Berzerk Free Spins. New players start with 50 points on one Viking, and meters are kept between playing sessions, which makes this a game that rewards coming back.
Treasure Chest
The chest lands only on the fifth reel and reveals one stone tablet, either Good or Epic. In the base game the tablets pay out:
- Good tablet: 7 free spins, a 30-point rage boost for one Viking, or 150-300 coins
- Epic tablet: 12 or 16 free spins, a 30-point rage boost for all four Vikings, or 600-1,200 coins
The free spin prizes drop off the tablets if you’ve already landed two or more Free Spin symbols on that spin, so the chest won’t double up a trigger that’s already in motion.
Vikings Go To Hell Free Spins & Bonus Levels
There are three free spin modes, all built on the same spine: Vikings fight demons, winners become sticky wilds, and there are no Free Spin symbols inside any of them. The trigger is three or more Free Spin symbols, awarding 7, 12 or 16 spins for three, four or five. Chest wins can also start the round.
Level 1: The Lord of Chains
Every Viking that lands fights a demon. Win, and the Viking turns sticky and collects a rage point. The twist is the boss: at the end of any spin with a Viking present, the Lord of Chains picks a Viking to fight him.
Each hit on the boss removes one of his three health bars and turns the attacking Viking sticky. Defeat him and you get two random wilds, every Viking wins its regular fights for the remaining spins, and the whole session moves up to Level 2.
Berzerk Free Spins
These come only from the rage meters, and only 7 spins are on offer. The Viking that filled its meter fights in Berzerk Mode, which means it always beats the demon, though it stops collecting rage for the round. The coin value for the session is averaged from every spin that collected rage, so bet changes during collection are smoothed out rather than punished.
Level 2: Lucifir
Level 2 starts with 7 fresh spins and a full reset of the sticky wilds, so everything built in Level 1 is cleared. Any Viking in Berzerk Mode stays Berzerk. At the end of each spin a Viking is chosen to fight Lucifir.
His health works the same three-bar way, but the rewards are richer: every hit turns the Viking sticky and drops two extra random sticky wilds onto the reels. Beat him and the entire free spin session, both levels, is multiplied by 3x, with all Vikings auto-winning their fights for the rest of the round.
Free Spins Treasure Chest
The chest keeps landing on the fifth reel during free spins, with tablet prizes tuned for the round:
- Good tablet: 2 extra free spins or 2 random wilds
- Epic tablet: 3 extra free spins or 1 wild reel (reels 1 to 4 only)
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
This is a campaign rather than a single battle. Sessions in the base game feel like slow marching, punctuated by brief fights where two Free Spin symbols turn a spin into something worth watching, and the descent into hell picks up the longer you stay with the same warband.
Its strength is the escalating bonus: beating one boss to unlock another, with everything riding on the final fight, gives the round a shape most free spins simply don’t have. Its weakness is that the low volatility pulls the whole thing back to earth. A long, well-built bonus can still pay modestly, and the 5,500x ceiling stays a distant destination.
It’s for players who enjoy the build as much as the payout, and who like a slot that keeps their progress warm between visits. Anyone after sharp swings and quick payoffs will find the pace too gentle. For everyone else, this is one of the more inventive descents into the underworld on the reels, and the warband fights all the way down.
