Wins of Winter Slot Review 2024
Wins of Winter from Fantasma games takes us to the icy tundra where the Ice Wizard seeks the help of the magical snowman in his hunt for magic crystals.
The nights are drawing in and it’s getting colder outside, so players might be on the hunt for seasonal games to set the mood for Christmas. We’re among those seeking out slots to accompany the season; after all, it’d be pretty darn depressing to play a summery slot while we’re sat at home freezing.
Wins of Winter looks about right for the upcoming festive season. It doesn’t exactly market itself as a Christmas Slot, but it’s got enough chill to fit the bill.
Fantasma Fans might remember their previous release, Magikspell. Magikspell was more of a spooky slot, but it looks similar when it comes to reel configuration.
Let’s take a look at Wins of Winter to see if they’re as similar as some may suspect, or if Fantasma has gone all out for a different game entirely.
Wins of Winter Base Game and Features
Wins of Winter is a 5 reel slot with 20 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
The minimum bet available to players is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€160 per spin, with plenty of other betting options in between the two. Wins of Winter has a theoretical RTP of 96.00% and a max win capacity of 5,000x.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol here is the Wizard, followed by the Red, Yellow, Green and Pink Gems. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.
There is also 2 special Snowflake symbols, a Chest and a Wild symbol in play. Wilds substitute for all High and Low-paying symbols in the paytable. The Chest symbol only appears on reel 5.
Fantasma has kept the base game interesting by packing in plenty of features to keep you busy. More on these below!
Winter Wild Feature
During the base game, Snowflake symbols can randomly land across the reels. Once this happens, they mark their position with a Frozen Frame.
The snowflake symbol can randomly trasnform into a Gold Snowflake symbol, which changes its marked position into a Gold Frame.
With the next paid spin, the position with the Gold Frame will transform itself and other Frames adjacent to it into Wilds. Frozen and Gold Frames do not disappear from the reels until they are transformed into Wilds.
Progression Meter
At the top of the reel set sits a Progression Meter. Each time a Snowflake symbol lands, +1 Point is added to this meter.
In total there are 3 Milestones to reach.
- 1st Milestone – When the meter reaches 50 Points, the Mirror Feature is awarded.
- 2nd Milestone – When the meter reaches 100 Points, the Mirror Feature is awarded.
- 3rd Milestone – When the meter reaches 150 Points, the Bonus Game Multiplier is upgraded progressively to x1, x2, x3, x5, x7, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x30, x40, x50, x60, x80 and x100 respectively.
After each Multiplier upgrade, the meter is reset back to 0. If the number of Points earned exceeds 150, the Bonus Game Multiplier will upgrade and the remaining points will be added to the meter after it’s reset.
Once the Free Spins round is triggered, the Bonus Game Multiplier is reset on the meter back to x1.
Mirror Feature
The Mirror feature is triggered when you reach the 1st and 2nd Milestones on the progression meter. The mirror feature will activate after the Chest feature but before the Winter Wild feature.
Once active, all Frozen and Gold Frames on the first 2 reels to the left will be mirrored towards the right reels, placing Frozen Frames on all corresponding positions.
Also, Frozen and Gold Frames on reels 3 and 4 will be mirrored to the left reels, placing Frozen Frames on all corresponding positions on the left.
If there is already Frozen Frames present on the target positions, the mirror action is skipped. Gold Frames place Frozen Frames instead of their own.
Chest Feature
During gameplay, a red and gold Chest can appear on reel 5. Once this happens, the Chest will unlock and award 1 of 2 Rewards.
- Progression – If the Chest awards Progression, it will add between 3 and 6 Points to the Progression Meter.
- Frozen Frames – If the Chest awards Frozen Frames, it will place between 2 and 4 Frozen Frames in random positions onto the reels.
Wins of Winter Bonus Game
Landing 3 Scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 automatically triggers the Bonus Game. Once triggered, a Gift appears on the screen, awarding between 9 and 18 Clicks.
Each click awards a Cash Prize between 0.25x and 20x your current bet. Once all clicks are complete, all Cash Prizes are added together and Multiplied by the Bonus Game Multiplier from the meter.
Persistent State
The bonus game Multiplier, Meter and Frozen/Gold Frame positions are linked to your current bet and saved with it.
Whenever you change your bet back to a previous bet, the Bonus Game Multiplier, Meter and Frozen/Gold Frame positions will be restored.
Wins of Winter: Our Verdict
Wins of Winter is another decent offering from Fantasma. They always seem to offer something pretty appealing, and they rarely deliver something run of the mill.
Wins of Winter will scratch the itch for those looking for something cold yet capable, but is it as good as Magikspell? We’re not entirely convinced.
Wins of Winer has all of the right stuff when it comes to visual appeal. You load it up and you’re greeted with something that looks magical and professional in equal measure. Fantasma obviously dedicate a fair amount of resource into making that first impression count, but the Wins of Winer and its potential is dwarfed by Magikspell and what it was capable of.
The highest maximum win here is 5,000x, and the highest win in Magikspell was a rather impressive and alluring 20,000x. There is ample reason to choose Wins of Winter if you’re looking for something more seasonal, but in practicality, Magikspell comes off as the better option.
Overall, Wins of Winter piqued our interest in more ways than one, but it fails to leave that lasting impression that would make us come back to it again and again.
