African Elephant Slot Review 2024

We’re heading to Africa to witness the mighty African Elephant in action, in Pragmatic Play’s latest release, African Elephant!

African elephants, also known as Loxodonta, are comprised of two living elephant species, the African bush elephant and the much smaller African forest elephant.

As of 2021, both species are considered at high risk of extinction on the IUCN Red List, with the bush elephant classed as endangered and the forest elephant critically endangered.

Pragmatic Play are keeping the species alive in their latest release, African Elephant, where a number of African animals join Elephant Wilds on the reels.

African Elephant has a special pattern mechanic in play, marking random positions and transforming them into elephant Wilds in both the base game and Free Spins round. During Free Spins, the pattern mechanic is triggered more often and boosts the game’s win potential to majestic new heights.

With the help of the African Elephant, will we walk away 15,000x better off? Let’s play on and find out!

African Elephant Base Game

African Elephant Base Game and Features

African Elephant is a 5-reel slot with 20 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.

The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a theoretical RTP of 96.04% and a max win cap of 15,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Rhino, followed by the Zebra, Antelope, Leopard, and Meerkat. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, and Jack. Wilds substitute for all other symbols except Scatters.

Wild Shape

During each base game spin, there is a chance for a random Shape to land on the reels, highlighting a number of reel positions.

When this happens, all symbols inside the highlighted shape will transform into Elephant Wilds. After the transformation, those symbols will pay from left to right for all winning combinations.

African Elephant: Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters across the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 10, 15, and 25 Free Spins respectively.

During Free Spins, the Wild Shape feature is guaranteed to land on every Free Spin. Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters during this time will award an additional +10, +15, and +25 Free Spins respectively.

African Elephant Free Spins

African Elephant Bonus Buy

Those outside the UK will benefit from a Bonus Buy option. Pragmatic Play has granted players access to the Free Spins for a total cost of 100x your current bet, awarding 3, 4, or 5 triggering Scatters.

African Elephant: Our Verdict

African Elephant doesn’t have the same appeal to it as Majestic Gold Megaways or Safari Gold Megaways does, but it looks good with its animated backdrop and colourful symbols.

Although Pragmatic Play has settled for only the Wild Shape mechanic, it does well to deliver the odd win here and there, but once the novelty of this wears off, you’ve got nothing else to fall back on for entertainment.

Upon testing, the Free Spins round wasn’t the easiest to trigger, but if you’re outside the UK you can dive straight into the action for 100x your bet thanks to the Bonus Buy option.

For those of you who can’t, it’s up to the Wild Shape mechanic to keep you going whilst you wait for the Free Spins round to land naturally.

During Free Spins, the Wild Shape mechanic is guaranteed on every Free Spin, which makes the 15,000x max win cap more achievable, but can African Elephant really deliver such a figure?

All in all, African Elephant is a peaceful and promising slot with great potential, but with only the Wild Shape mechanic in play, it’s not quite as captivating as we had hoped.
