What’s a Rainbow Riches entry without all the cliched paraphernalia synonymous with this pocket of the world?
Sure enough, back again are the likes of toadstools, harps horseshoes, and leprechaun’s hats employed as the premium symbols – the former proving the most lucrative worth 100x the bet for winning combos of 5. There is one, more coveted symbol – the Wild, no less – fetching wins worth double that amount when making wins of themselves. At the lower end of the scale are royals running 10 to Ace, whose values top out at 10x the bet for 5OAK wins.
The rainbow chasing goes down over a 5×3 game grid adorned with 10 paylines where wins are required to run left-to-right adjacently from reel 1. Fairly bog-standard stuff. What’s not so run-of-the-mill is the game’s Bonus Trail which presumably aims to lead players to a mystical pot of gold situated somewhere among them green there hills.

The star of the show – who other than the Leprechaun, will then move around the board anti-clockwise depending on the result of the crystal ball. Make it all the way around to the start tile and a payout of 3x your stake is yours. As you move the Leprechaun along his merry way, he may land on any of the following steps:
- Fairy: Augments the value shown on Mushrooms and Gold Pots
- Mushroom: You earn additional picks according to the number shown with this step
- Rainbow Pot: This sees the crystal ball come into play again, prompting the Leprechaun to collect values in his path

Rainbow Riches Deluxe: Our Verdict
There’s a clear reason Light & Wonder keep returning to such pastures, but even given slot players’ affection for Irish-themed games, you have to question whether the developer has done enough on this occasion to prompt enough players to reach for their wallet and hit spin, once again.
For one, the game’s max win comes in at a paltry 2,000x the bet. That might have cut it years ago, but it’s 2023 and slot players are a more discerning bunch nowadays.
When paired with the medium variance engine powering the back end, there are no prizes for guessing its maker’s target market with this release. Taken together, the ‘Deluxe’ suffix seems a misguided choice for what at heart amounts to little more than a nuanced reskin with a new feature bolted on. And don’t remind us about that max win…
Sure, we get why Light & Wonder is at pains to retain the series’ retro charm, lest they alienate its core audience, but surely it could have done with some sort of visual upgrade or token makeover.
As it is, Rainbow Riches Deluxe will no doubt get added to the ever-growing Rainbow Riches pile – which may be fine for lovers of the series – those with more contemporary tastes are likely to run for the not-so-Irish hills en masse.
