5 Lions Reborn

5 Lions Reborn Slot Review

Two guardian lions in red and gold flank the title banner, plinths and all, beneath a green-faced lion mask and a gilded temple gateway carved into rolling blue clouds and waves. Pragmatic Play has built 5 Lions Reborn around one decision: a free spins round you configure yourself, choosing between more spins or a bigger multiplier. That choice carries more weight here than anything the base game does, and it’s the one idea in the game that hasn’t been recycled from the family template.

It runs on a 5×3 grid with 243 ways to win, at 96.50% RTP and medium volatility, stakes from 0.30 to 240.00 per spin. It keeps the fixed 243-way setup that its Megaways sibling 5 Lions Megaways traded away, alongside kin like Dragon Tiger Fortunes. Whether a pick-your-own multiplier can freshen a template this well-worn is what the reels have to answer.

Base Game & Features

Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels from the leftmost one, with 243 ways in play on every spin. There are no paylines to choose between; any matching run of three or more symbols from the left counts, and only the highest combination per way pays. It’s a standard arrangement and it behaves like one.

The wild appears on reels two, three and four only, and substitutes for every other symbol. That’s its whole job here, and it does it without carrying its own payout or multiplier in the base game.

The paying symbols are drawn from the classic Chinese-fortune cabinet: dragons, phoenixes, frogs, fish and turtles above a run of card royals. Their values as multiples of stake:

• Red Dragon: 1.3333x, 2.6667x, 26.6667x for three, four and five
• Golden Phoenix: 1x, 2.6667x, 20x
• Golden Frog: 0.8333x, 2.6667x, 20x
• Fish: 0.5x, 1.3333x, 9.3333x
• Turtle: 0.5x, 1.1667x, 8.6667x
• A: 0.3333x, 0.8333x, 5.3333x
• K: 0.3333x, 0.6667x, 4x
• Q: 0.3333x, 0.5x, 2.6667x
• J: 0.2667x, 0.5x, 2.6667x
• 10 and 9: 0.1667x, 0.3333x, 1.3333x

The ladder splits cleanly in two. Five premiums and five royals, with a clear gap between the groups and a sharper one between the Red Dragon and everything else. It’s a shape the formula has used for years, and it sets expectations precisely: steady small returns, not drama.

The royals carry most of the day-to-day work, and the premiums are where a genuinely good spin comes from. Medium volatility keeps the rhythm even without making anyone rich. Nothing in the base game will surprise anyone who knows this family of slots, but nothing in it is broken either.

There are three scatter types to watch. The regular scatter triggers free spins when three or more land from left to right on consecutive reels starting from reel one.

The golden scatter works differently: every time one hits in the base game, it can randomly trigger the free spins feature on its own. The third, the super scatter, is rarer still, and it opens a better version of the bonus.

5 Lions Reborn Free Spins & Bonus Features

Land three or more scatters and the round doesn’t simply start. First you choose from seven options, each trading spin count against the starting wild multiplier:

• 20 free spins with a 2x starting Wild Multiplier
• 15 free spins with a 3x multiplier
• 13 free spins with a 5x multiplier
• 10 free spins with an 8x multiplier
• 8 free spins with a 10x multiplier
• 6 free spins with a 15x multiplier
• Mystery: a random number of spins and multiplier drawn from the other options

Inside the round, the multiplier does the heavy lifting. Whenever at least one wild lands as part of a winning combination, the current multiplier applies to the total win of the combinations that wild takes part in. The multiplier then climbs once, by its starting value each time it pays.

A 3x start applies 3x to its first win, becomes 6x, and pays 6x on the next. Because the climb only stops when the wilds stop landing, spin count and multiplier feed each other. A 2x start across 20 spins has far more chances to compound than a 15x start across six, which is exactly the calculation the choice screen asks you to make.

The round can extend itself, too. Randomly, one, two or three additional free spins are awarded during the feature. It’s not a retrigger you can aim for; it simply happens or doesn’t.

Super Free Spins

Every time the super scatter hits in the base game, it can randomly trigger a Super Free Spins round. There’s no picking screen here. You get 20 free spins with a 15x starting wild multiplier straight off, which is the aggressive end of the standard round’s option table handed to you with the spin count left intact.

If more than one free spins feature triggers on the same spin, they play as separate rounds. Super free spins go first, then the regular rounds follow. With a golden scatter and a super scatter both capable of firing independently, stacked triggers are the outcome worth hoping for.

Bonus Buy

Both bonuses can be bought, and the two prices sit an order of magnitude apart. The standard round costs 80x the total bet and guarantees three scatters on the triggering spin. Buying it still puts the choice screen in front of you, so the Mystery option is available there too.

The Super Free Spins round costs 500x, with a super scatter guaranteed to hit. It’s a steep ask next to the standard buy, and it removes the one thing that makes this game interesting: the choice.

• Buy Free Spins: 80x total bet
• Buy Super Free Spins: 500x total bet

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.7/10

Playing 5 Lions Reborn is a patient wait in a very beautiful temple. The base game ticks over on small royal wins while you watch for scatters, and the reason to sit through it is the one moment the game belongs to you: the pick screen, where you decide how brave the bonus gets to be.

That pick screen is its biggest strength. Seven real options plus a Mystery roll is proper agency, and the climbing multiplier means the choice genuinely matters rather than being decoration. The weakness is everything around it: the grid, the symbol ladder and the whole fortune-template chassis have been assembled a hundred times before, and there’s nothing in the base game to discover.

This one suits players who like steering their own bonus and don’t mind a familiar ride to get there. The lions repay the patience, but only if setting your own risk is the part you came for.
